During the 43 years that we have been in business, thousands offamilies in all parts of the country have done just what you aredoing now. They studied our catalog, selected the Liberty Homethat suited them best, filled out the order blank and, surprising

as it may seem, had their home finished and were living in itbefore the next rent-day rolled around. How well pleased they areyou will see when you read their letters on the following pages.

The way is open to you to secure a Liberty Home just as manyothers have done before you. Here's the way to go about it 1 Readthe catalog carefully. Pick out the home you like best and decidewhich of the four payment plans you prefer (see last page). Thenjust mail the order blank. X^OUR home is the most impor-*- tant purchase you will evermake. Probably the largest in dol-lars and cents; certainly the onethat will most directly influence your com-fort, happiness and well being for manyyears to come.

Surely, in considering this purchase, your first thought should be to provide thegreatest possible assurance that your newhome will be all you expected it to be.Liberty Homes and the Liberty Ready-CutSystem give you that assurance. The Lib-

erty System takes the gamble and uncer-tainty out of building protects you fromthe heartaches that result from faultyplanning, excessive costs, and improper orinferior materials.

In every Liberty Home the constructionis of the same type as that of the attrac-tive, costly Architect-Built homes youhave often seen and admired. They areerected in exactly the same manner as anyother sturdy, substantial home is built, each individual piece of material stoutly

and permanently nailed in place in thesame way that first-class carpenters are ac-customed to build good homes.

Briefly, the Liberty System of HomeBuilding is simply this a system bymeans of which you can select from alarge variety of styles and sizes of housesthe one which ideally meets your idea ofthe kind of a home you would like to own.It offers you the protection of a Complete

Home-Building Service, including notonly the architectural plans and workinginstructions, but also the lumber, meas-ured and cut in the proper lengths toconform exactly with the building plans. You are also furnished with the necessarysizes and quantities of nails, the hardware, paint, stains, varnish, doors, windows, roofing and other materials specified indetail on another page of this catalog.

The result is a home that is not onlyarchitecturally correct in every particularbut is built according to plans which havebeen tried and proved by hundreds ofothers like yourself who wanted a first-quality home at a fair and reasonable price.

Now turn the page and read the com-plete story of the Liberty Ready-Cut Sys-tem and its many advantages from thestandpoint of quality, ease of constructionand, most important of all, LOW COST.

N BUILDING a house, the part ofthe work that is the hardest andtakes up the most time is themeasuring, sawing and planing the lumber getting it ready to put up. The actualwork of nailing it in place is easily and

    quickly done.

Make it a point some day to watch acarpenter building a house and see howmuch time he spends with his rule andpencil, figuring and measuring the lengthsand angles of the various pieces of lumber, and then count up how many hours eachday are consumed in sawing all of thelumber by hand. You will realize at oncethat a good share of the carpenter's timeis being wasted in doing things whichcould be done much more quickly and

    cheaply by machinery.

The Liberty System of Home Buildingeliminates entirely the expense of havingto pay a carpenter for the hours he spendsevery day in getting the lumber ready tonail in place. In our mills the work ofmeasuring, sawing and mitering is all doneby machinery not only in a fraction ofthe time it takes to do it by hand but alsowith absolute accuracy.

The result is that you will not have topay a carpenter nearly as much to build aLiberty Home because it will not take himnearly so long. In fact, in many cases, itis not necessary to hire a carpenter at all. With the difficult measuring and sawingeliminated, you can take advantage of theassistance offered by your friends andneighbors, and trust them with the work

of nailing because the lumber is cut toexact size and fits into its proper placewithout any alterations.

    Away With

    Tedious

    Measuring

    and Sawing!

By purchasing the materials for yourhome from us, cut to size and ready tonail in place, you save hours and hours ofwork.

For example, it takes a carpenter abouteight hours to measure and saw the rafters

for the roof of an average size house. Inour mill, however, we can saw the raftersfor two or three dozen houses in the samelength of time.

When you consider that the same savingapplies throughout the various other partsof the construction, you will see at oncewhy the Liberty System enables you tobuild your home at such an extremely lowcost.

[HERE is no magic in our beingable to furnish you with the ma-terials for building your home ata price that will save you a substantial sumof money. The explanation is very simple!

In the first place, we manufacture animmense number of homes every year and quantity production results in tre-mendous savings in the building of homes

just as it does in the building of automo-biles, refrigerators, stoves or any othermanufactured product.

In the second place, the mammoth Lib-erty mills are equipped with the mostmodern electrically operated machinery, designed to cut lumber accurately and eco-nomically. Such efficient productionmethods enable us to produce the finished

    11/85

product at a fraction of the usual cost.

Thirdly, the business we do is not con-fined to one small community, but isnation-wide in its scope. Consequently weare able to purchase materials in tremen-dous quantities at much more advantageous

    LumberIs Curto Fir

prices than if we had to buy our lumber, paints, hardware and other materials insmall lots as a local contractor would haveto do.

Then, too, we employ "no agents, solici-tors or traveling salesmen, whose salaries

have to be added to the cost of what wesell. This, in itself, results in a consider-able saving of money to you.

But the savings above mentioned are notall by any means. Read on and see!

Not a Piece of Lumber Wasted!

Waste is one of the greatest enemies ofLife. It robs your energy. It robs yourbank account. Did you ever notice theheaps of wasted materials lying around a

newly finished house. This wasted mate-rial costs the owner good money, just asmuch as the material actually used, yet it-was thrown away. It makes you feel goodto know that when you build the Libertyway, all this waste has been eliminated andyou pay only for the material that isactually used for construction.

    Not a Penny Thrown Away!

Good building material is too valuableto be wasted. Through scientific planning

and manufacturing methods, every inch ofgood lumber is used. Where there is notwaste, there is no overcharge. In buildinga Liberty Home you profit from these ef-ficient production principles.

But this is not all that you save as youwill see when you read the following pages.

    No Extra Fees

    for Architectural Service

x^^\ "JEARS ago, before the Liberty MethodCvy ^V of home-building was established, thec*** ideal way to build a home was to have

the work supervised from beginning to endby a capable architect who was experiencedin designing and building good homes. Anarchitect understands proper constructionmethods; he knows the proper materials touse for each particular purpose; he sees toit that your home is built exactly in accord-ance with approved plans and specifications.

WHEN you build a Liberty Home youreceive the benefit of valuable architec-

tural service without having to pay any extrafee. Every Liberty Home is designed by an ex-perienced architect, and the materials are selectedand manufactured exactly in accordance withhis detailed plans and specifications.

Our architectural service assures you that yourhome will be properly constructed in every par-ticular. On the other hand, if you hire a carpen-ter to furnish the material and build you a housefor a certain sum of money, there is no way foryou to know definitely what the final results willbe. He may scrimp here and there, perhaps splic-

ing short pieces of lumber together where fulllength pieces are required. The result usually isa house of flimsy construction.

    Fine Substantial Homes

  • 8/12/2019 NewLibertyHomesN.dc.1935. Djvu

    13/85

''HERE is nothing new or experi-mental about the constructionprinciples followed in the design-ing of Liberty Homes. They are the out-growth of 43 years of experience in thebuilding of homes of a fine, substantialtype homes numbered well up into thethousands in practically every section ofthe country.

Wouldn't you like a home with anattractive living room like this?

A cosy bedroom in the homeof a Liberty owner

One of the outstanding superiorities ofLiberty construction is that every piece oflumber is of adequate size and strength tomeet the particular requirements of the useto which it is to be put.

For example, where experience has showncertain timbers, such as girders, joists, stud-ding and rafters, must be of a particularweight or dimension in order to insure the

proper degree of sturdiness and rigidity, our architects see to it that the specifica-tions, in every case, fully meet such re-quirements.

    Make This Simple Comparison

Contrast this with houses that you see acarpenter erecting without architecturalsupervision. Observe how the carpenterhas filled in here and there with crookedboards and short pieces full of knots. Thenwhen the house is finished, squint along

the walls and see if they are straight. Seeif the rooms are the same dimension atone side as at the other by examining thefloor boards, or by looking to see if thewallpaper has the same pattern in the cor-ners of the room from top to bottom.
