2019 SCCA National Convention Dates and LocationTOPEKA, Kan. (May 31, 2018) – For 2019, the annual SCCA National Convention will return January 17-19 to South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
This year’s National Convention will be very special as its theme is “Celebrating Our Legacy, Build-ing Our Future” and serves as the official start of the Club’s 75th Anniversary celebration. The Convention will again be a familiar format that encompasses leadership development and skills training for Club members. Details on times and a full schedule will be announced later this year.
But as usual, the Annual Meeting and welcome reception will be held Thursday, followed by two days of training.
Various fun social activities will cer-tainly be included, too. The SCCA Hall of Fame and Awards banquet on Saturday night then caps festivi-ties. Organizers are also seeking ad-ditional topics and presenters for Convention leadership and training sessions. Those who believe they have subjects of interest can submit a presentation proposal at https://www.scca.com/pages/speaker-ap-plication. Presentations are usually done in one-hour blocks. Longer presentations are allowed under rare circumstances. The submission deadline is June 15, 2018, for presen-tation proposals. More information about the 2019 SCCA National Convention and special lodging packages will be made available at https://www.scca.com/pages/nationalconven-tion in the coming months.

2018 U.S. Majors Tour Western Conference Point ChampionsTOPEKA, Kan. (July 27, 2018) – The SCCA® U.S. Majors Tour® racing sea-son has concluded for 2018 out west. Nearly 600 racers took part in the Western Conference’s 14-round schedule that held court at seven different venues stretching from Seattle to Los Angeles. Drivers who did the best across the 28 different classes duly garnered Western Conference Champion-ships . Similar to what happened in the Southeast Conference this year, a couple Western Conference compet-itors managed to gather up two dif-ferent class Championships. In Spec Miata, a class that boasted nearly 90 different competitors over the season, it was Mark Drennan who ended up atop the heap. Drennan also managed to drive a BMW Spec E46 to the Touring 3 Conference Championship. The other driver to take multiple Championships was Taz Harvey. A Mazda man, Harvey claimed the top spot in GT-3 driv-ing a Mazda RX-7, and duplicated Championship efforts in the GT-Lite class with a Mazda MX-5 Miata. The Western Conference also pro-duced several close points battles. In Formula F, Rick Payne and his Van Diemen Honda managed to win the Championship by only five points over the Swift Honda DB6 of Charles Horn. Formula Atlantic was decided by four points with Jay Horak besting John Purcell, both driving Star Pro Formula Mazdas. A three-point spread decided the H Production Championship as Michael Cummings, driving an Austin Healey Sprite, beat out Jason Isley and his Toyota Yaris. Then in B-Spec, it was a battle of Mazda 2s as Cherie Storms managed a two-point Championship win over Jake
Pipal. And finally, it was only one point that decided the E Production king as Glen McCready and his Mazda MX-5 Miata barely grabbed the Championship over the Mazda RX-7 of Kale Swifts. Below are Western Conference Champions:.-American Sedan®: Michael Thompson; Vacaville, CA; San Fran-cisco Region; Chevrolet Camaro-B-Spec: Cherie Storms; Langley, BC; Northwest Region; Mazda 2-E Production: Glen McCready; Redwood City, CA; San Francisco Region; Mazda MX-5-F Production: Joe Huffaker; Peta-luma, CA; San Francisco Region; MG Midget-H Production: Michael Cummings; Martinez, CA; San Francisco Re-gion; Austin Healey Sprite-Formula 500: Lance Spiering; Beaverton, OR; Oregon Region; KBS MK VII-Formula 1000: J.R. Important Registration Dates for 2018 Runoffs at Sonoma Raceway
TOPEKA, Kan. (July 24, 2018) -- With each passing day, the 2018 SCCA® National Championship Runoffs® at Sonoma Raceway get a little bit closer. And as such, it’s time for racers and workers to be aware of key dates approaching for the event taking place Oct. 16-21 just north of San Francisco, Califor-nia. For competitors, Aug. 1 is the first important date to mark on calendars as that is when Garage Lottery registration begins at 10 a.m. Central Time. Lottery entry cost is $1,050 -- the equivalent of a Runoffs entry. Drivers need NOT have fulfilled Runoffs eligibility requirements to register at that time, and Garage Lottery registration will be open until Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. Central Time. At that point, names will be drawn randomly to award garage space and create the ordered waitlist. Those receiving garage spaces will be notified by Wednesday, Aug. 22 and charged the balance of the garage space fee (pricing available here). All regis-trants will receive a credit of $1,050 to their MotorsportReg.com account to be applied to a 2018 Runoffs entry. Also beginning Wednesday, Aug. 1 at 10 a.m. Central Time is the online request process for Prep Shop and Multi-Car Team spaces. The online request form is for Prep Shops and Multi-Car Teams needing paddock spaces 60 feet or larger who meet the minimum requirements for the plots. All drivers who intend to paddock with a team must be registered for the Runoffs and list the Multi-Car Team in their event entry before a paddock space will be assigned. Spots will be assigned in a way that maximizes the area with some consideration given to
the order in which requests are submitted. This process is only for space requests, not reservations, and will be open online until Aug. 22 at 10 a.m. Central Time. Wednesday, Aug. 8 at 10 a.m. Cen-tral Time is when online registration opens for drivers and workers through MotorsportReg.com. Prior to registration opening, competitors are advised to log into their Motors-portReg account to make sure SCCA member numbers, license expiration date and vehicle profile information are all up-to-date in the system. This will save time and reduce frustra-tion during the actual registration process. Competitors will be able to sign up for Test Days, taking place Oct.13-15, during event registration. Competitors will also be asked for their paddock intention (Single-Car space, Prep Shop, Multi-Car Team or Manufacturer if offered). While there will not be manufacturer tents this year, there will be designated space for Honda, Mazda, Nissan and Toyota drivers. Space will be limited, but attempts will be made to accommodate as many requests as possible. Those who plan to pad-dock with a Prep Shop or Multi-Car Team should be sure to list the team name during registration. Free tent camping is being offered for participants at Sonoma Raceway. Those who intend to camp using a tent, be sure to check the box in the registration form stating such. And as has been the case the last sev-eral years, participants may camp
within their paddock space at no additional charge. RV reservations outside of paddock spaces, which are being handled by Sonoma Race-way, will open Aug. 8 at a cost of $150 and will be good for the entire event. RV services will be available for a fee through United Site Servic-es, with pricing and contact infor-mation to be posted at a later date to the Runoffs event page. Those searching for hotel rooms, the SCCA has made advance arrangements to get the lowest group rates available for lodging near the track. Learn more about hotel accommodations at the Runoffs event page. Once the Garage Lottery and Prep Shop/Multi-Car Team process has been closed, it will be time to open Single-Car paddock reservations on Sept. 5 at noon Central Time. Given the topography of the roads and paddock areas, special con-sideration will be given to classes with low-clearance cars. A limited number of spaces in the Main Pad-dock will be held for this purpose for one week, September 5-12. All drivers must be registered for the Runoffs before a paddock space will be assigned. Additional paddock and registration information can be found here. The 55th running of the SCCA Runoffs will again crown national champions in 28 separate classes. For 2018, SCCA will use Sonoma Raceway’s traditional 12-turn, 2.52-mile course layout. The configura-tion is the same that made Sonoma a favorite of drivers, starting with the venue’s first-ever race, an SCCA enduro held Dec. 1, 1968.

New SCCA Welcoming Environment Statement Issued
TOPEKA, Kan. (July 3, 2018) -- To better express core concepts that drive the Sports Car Club of America®, an updated Welcoming Environment Statement has been drafted.
Efforts to craft the statement began earlier this year, and the Board of Directors approved the new state-ment in May. It is the hope that this new declaration will henceforth be noted in event Supplemental Regulations and find a home at Region websites or in publications to remind everyone of standards the Club strives to maintain. The updated statement reads as follows:
The Mission of the SCCA® is to fuel a safe, fun and exciting motorsports experience for automotive enthusiasts. The Club’s Vision is to be the preferred motorsports community in the United States, built on fun, shared passion and access to an exhilarating motorsports experience. In all its activities, the SCCA seeks to foster an atmosphere that encourages living the Values of the SCCA, which include: Excellence: The Spirit of a Competitor
Service: The Heart of a Volunteer
Passion: The Attitude of an Enthusiast
Team: The Art of Working Together
Experience: The Act of Wowing our Community
Stewardship: The Mindset of an Owner The SCCA strives to ensure ALL participants at its events and ac-tivities enjoy a welcoming environ-ment.
The SCCA supports equality of opportunity and treatment for all participants, and will make every effort to maintain an environment that is free of harassment, discrimi-nation and any behavior that inter-feres with a safe, fun and exciting experience.
A commitment to a welcoming environment and the SCCA Values is expected of all members and at-tendees, including drivers, workers, crew, guests, staff, contractors and exhibitors, and other participants at SCCA activities, sessions and social events when representing the SCCA in print or electronic media. SCCA President & CEO Mike Cobb said, “As a member-based organiza-tion that is approaching its 75th Anniversary, it is important for us to grow and evolve to better serve motorsports enthusiasts while le-veraging the core DNA of the Club.
And while the spirit of competition is essential to this Club at its core, it’s also important to understand we are all members serving one another with the aim of delivering a great motorsports experience. “Our new welcoming language is simply an extension of our updated Mission and Vision and is intended to remind us that we are indeed a community of individuals who all love having fun with cars,” Cobb continued, “and it is the duty of all SCCA members -- staff, leadership, officials, members, etc. -- to deliver an environment and an experience that is welcoming to all who choose to participate.” An expanded definition of Club Values has been created for SCCA employees and now resides in the Employee Handbook to serve as a guide for those serving members and those who serve the members.
These concepts build on core com-petencies SCCA President & CEO Mike Cobb introduced during the 2018 National Convention in Las Vegas. An expanded version of SCCA Values are provided below to also serve as a guide for Region leaders, volunteers, workers, event organizers and participants.

TREASURER: Absent
LOUD PEDAL: Absent
DIRECTORS REPORTS:
ROAD RACE: Kristen felt that we had a very good Major event. The
paddock being so overcrowded was the only hiccup that was not able to be readily fixed.
SOLO II: Rio presented a picture of the cones that he researched. The cost with The SCCA logo on them is $7.25 ea. These could be used by all of the groups as needed at their events. M/S (Kristen/Allie) to purchase 100 of these cones.
They held a Starting Line on Satur-day and had 18 participants, all new faces as well.
Their next event will be the 23/24 in the south paddock.
Work continues on the planned, Women in Racing Day. This event will be sponsored by women owned businesses as well and will happen in August. A great chance for the ladies……workers, drivers wives etc. to experience life behind the wheel/
Rio said that a site in WA that they are interested in has the support of the town and are eager to have events there as the economy has really hurt the area. July 13th will be a Champ Tour there and Solo plans to take toys to the kids in the com-munity.
RALLY: Jacob announced that they have found land in La Center that meets their requirements. The goal is to try to fill most weekends by sharing with other groups who need a location. More to come on this venture.
Rally’s treasurer will be doing their taxes going forward. Jacob asked if there was any information needed by the office. Karen (via text) will check but did not believe so. Jacob and Karen to follow up on this.
VINTAGE: No report DIRECTOR I: Absent DIRECTOR II: Allie advised that the awards committee is checking out awards and plan to implant some fun ideas into the venture. PAST REGIONAL EXEC: Todd said that many have asked him why he thought the June event had such a low turnout. His thoughts were that there were just too many events in a short span of time in The NW and CA. We are not alone in this as the last event at Laguna had very low entries as well. Only so much time and $ to go around.
He hopes to have a report on Rose Cup by the next meeting.
ASST: REGIONAL EXE: Derrick is still communicating with The Grid Life promoters researching the pos-sibility of an event at PIR.
REGIONAL EXEC: Tim praised Kristen for the great job that she did on The Majors. He was impressed with her handling of that big event.
He reported that we are looking forward to the upcoming June 8th TNiA to be a sell out as is usual for these events.
On the Saturday evening of Rose Cup a pot luck is being planned for all drivers.
There is a chance that some live mu-sic could entertain. Tim asked who he should check with on availability of logistics for this. Mary suggested that he talk to Sandy Bauer who is the promoter to get any informa-tion.

Registration Opens for 2018 USRRC Online registration for the 24th United States RoadRally Challenge, the SCCA’s premier RoadRally weekend is open at motorsportreg.com.
This year’s United States RoadRally Challenge (USRRC) Oct. 4–7 is hosted by the St. Louis Region with help from the Southern Illinois Region.
As organized by the St. Louis Region, the 2018 USRRC will in-clude four rallies--two divisionals and two nationals--beginning with a short nighttime divisional tour Thursday evening, Oct. 4, followed by two daylong national rallies Friday, Oct. 5, and Saturday, Oct. 6. The weekend will conclude with a morning divisional GTA rally Sun-day, Oct. 7, followed by an awards luncheon.
This year’s USRRC will offer sev-eral special features also, observes event chairman Jim Heine.
“In addition to the regular RoadRal-
ly classes defined by the Road Rally Rules--Equipped, Limited, and Stock--we will offer two addi-tional classes, Historic and Rookie. They’re designed especially for beginning or occasional rally teams, whether historic or modern, or for teams from other SCCA disciplines that might enjoy participating in the USRRC. Also, we’ve designed the weekend so that Historic and Rookie teams can run all four events, or if they choose, just the Saturday and Sunday events.”
This is the fourth time the St. Louis Region has hosted the USRRC. “We are looking forward to hosting this event again, and we believe rally
teams will find the weekend enjoy-able,” says Peter Zekert, St. Louis Region executive.
For more information about the 2018 USRRC, visit motorsportreg.com (http://msreg.com/usrrc2018) or the St. Louis Region’s website at stlscca.org, where entry forms and current USRRC information are available also.
The 2018 USRRC will run over the historic rural roads of southern Illinois, just across the Mississippi River from St. Louis’ Gateway Arch. Suburban Columbia, Ill., will serve as the weekend’s rally headquar-ters.

Tire Rack Solo Nationals Quickly Reaches CapTOPEKA, Kan (July 10, 2018) -- In only four days and four hours, the 2018 Tire Rack SCCA® Solo® Nationals reached its entry cap of 1,350 participants, an unprec-edented feat for the Sports Car Club of America®. Those who registered after the cap was reached have now been added to a waitlist. If entry cancellations come in, persons will be offered a slot at the Sept. 3-7 event in Lincoln, Nebraska accord-ing to their position on the waitlist. Howard Duncan, SCCA’s Rally/Solo Senior Director, said, “I have been working with SCCA’s Solo Department a long time and never imagined that the Solo National Championship could possibly sell out so quick! This is truly a testa-ment to the ever-increasing interest in Solo’s top-tier event AND the welcoming environment existing in Lincoln each year.” Last year, in 2017, the Tire Rack Solo Nationals set a participation record with 1,317 entries. That record may very well fall this year. Whether it does or not, there is no denying the meteoric growth Solo Nationals has experienced over the last several years. A lot of that can be attributed to changes in the Solo landscape dating back more than a decade. In the 1990s, Solo Nationals already had a strong following and a home in Salina, Kansas. As popular-ity grew, a new site was found at Forbes Field in Topeka, Kansas to handle the influx of competitors. In 2000, the event first reached nearly 1,000 entries. In 2009, the Championship was relocated to its current home at Lincoln Airpark in Nebraska, and entry numbers continued to grow. Beyond the location, strategic class-ing decisions have also played a significant role in the event’s popu-
larity. In 2011, there were 283 cars participating in Stock classes. In 2012, the Solo Events Board began taking steps to migrate Stock to the new Street ruleset. Now in 2018, there are 440 drivers registered to participate in Street classes. That shift from Stock to Street accounts for half the event’s growth over the last seven years. Of course, the addition of new classes has also aided in growth. New for 2018, the Solo Spec Coupe (SSC) class boasts more than 65 entries at Solo Nationals. And the inclusion of Classic American Muscle (CAM) competi-tors is responsible for more than 90 entries this year. These classes, along with the shift from Stock to Street, represent 82 percent growth in participation from 2011 to today. What’s in store for the future of
Solo Nationals? Only time will tell. But rest assured this top-tier, SCCA event will continue to be one of the world’s largest motorsport competi-tions for many years to come.

Youngest-ever Rose Cup Winner! 17 year-old Parker Chase teams with Ryan Dalziel to claim 58th Rose Cup Win
PORTLAND, Ore. (July 19, 2018) – The Rose Cup Races concluded its 58th year running this past weekend at Portland International Raceway (PIR). The Pacific North-west’s premier amateur road racing event featured racing competitors from both the Oregon Region Sports Car Club of America and the Cas-cade Sports Car Club, competing in four amateur race groups: Spec Racer Ford, Great American Stock Car Series, Spec Miata, and a Vin-tage race group.
This year’s event also highlighted the return of professional sports car racing to PIR for the first time since 2009. The Pirelli World Challenge, considered North America’s top GT production-based road racing sports car series, brought more than 20 dif-ferent manufacturers and 40 sepa-rate models to the Rose Cup Races, with four race groups and seven classes. The weekend marked the first time Pirelli World Challenge has raced in Portland since 2005.
The official winner of Sunday’s 58th Rose Cup race was the team of teenager Parker Chase and veteran Ryan Dalziel, who drove their Audi R8 LMS to victory in the GT SprintX
feature. Chase, a 17-year-old from New Braunfels, Tex., scored his first GT Overall win. Dalziel, a multi-time GT race winner, started the race in the No. 19 Audi and was running third when he passed off the car to the teenager. Chase is the youngest driver in the history of the event to win the Rose Cup.
“It was terrific to work with PIR, the local sports car clubs and the Pire-lli World Challenge folks to bring professional sports car racing back to Portland,” said Gary Bockman, President of Friends of PIR (FOPIR), the organizer of the event. “The hot weather matched the hot action on the race track, that’s for sure. We thank the many volunteers that made this event possible and we are already looking forward to the 59th Rose Cup Races in 2019.”
