Ms. McCall’s Class 11/19-11/20 Social Studies: We are learning about the daily life of people living in Colonial America. We are also learning about different Native American tribes. SS.2.A.2.1- Recognize that Native Americans were the first inhabitants in North America. SS.2.A.2.2- Compare the cultures of Native American tribes from various geographic regions of the United States. SS.2.A.2.3- Describe the impact of immigrants on the Native Americans. SS.2.A.2.4- Explore ways the daily life of people living in Colonial America changed over time. SS.2.A.2.5- Identify reasons people came to the United States throughout history. December 3 rd -7 th Holiday Canned Food Drive Save Your Box Tops! We are collecting Box Tops. The next collection period ends February 22 nd . Please save them and send them to school with your child. We have already collected over 8,000 Box Tops as a school. Holiday Canned Food Drive: December 3 rd -7 th The students are welcome to bring canned food. The food will be used to feed the families of students in St. Johns County. The students can drop off their cans in the cafeteria when they arrive at school or during our lunch time. The grade level with the most cans will win a Pop Corn Party! Reading: We are reading a variety of nonfiction (focusing on historical events and purpose) and fiction stories. We are reviewing key concepts and utilizing the iReady lessons in the classroom. We are meeting in small groups and reviewing areas of need. We are also reviewing words with –ing and –ed endings. Math: We are reviewing Place Value and Three- Digit Numbers. We are learning a variety of games involving place value and enjoying them in class. We are also reviewing addition and subtraction skills with three digit numbers. We are also utilizing iReady lessons to support the students individualized learning. 2.NBT.1.1- Understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones. MAFS.2.NBT.2.7 Add and subtract within 1000, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method. Understand that in adding or subtracting three digit numbers, one adds or subtracts hundreds and hundreds, tens and tens, ones and ones; and sometimes it is necessary to compose or decompose tens or hundreds. MAFS.2.NBT.2.8 Mentally add 10 or 100 to a given number 100-900, and mentally subtract 10 or 100 from a given number 100-900.
