Investigation was conducted. Almost all the accused were associated with Kabir Kala Manch," Singh added in the press conference. The top cop added that during investigations, it was revealed that 'a big controversy' was being plotted by Maoist organisations. "The five accused were helping them take their goals forward. The Supreme Court has ordered that the five activists, arrested in connection with the Koregaon-Bhima violence case, be kept under house arrest, observing that dissent was the "safety valve" of democracy. Three-year-old Bengal boy shot in the head still critical, no arrest so far A three-year-old boy who was shot in the head at his home in Malda district during the violence over the formation of Bengal’s rural boards continues to be in a critical condition. Nobody has been arrested yet, despite the boy’s father lodging a complaint against 18 alleged BJP workers. The boy was kept under observation at the intensive care unit of a nursing home after undergoing surgery on Thursday evening. Doctors said they will not be able to comment on his chances of recovery until another 72 hours have passed. ”The surgery took four hours. The boy is slowly moving his limbs, but not opening his eyes yet,” said Malda zilla parishad saha-sabhadhipati (vice-chairman) Gourchandra Mondal. A senior officer of the Manikchak police station stated that all the 18 accused are absconding. Dulal Sarkar, working president of the Trinamool Congress’ Malda district unit, said state minister Subhendu Adhikari has instructed him to provide the “best-possible treatment” to the child. “The party will bear all the expendi- ture,” he added. Although ruling party leaders wanted the boy shifted to a Kolkata hospital, they were advised against it in view of the boy’s critical condition. Parimal Mondal, the boy’s father, has accused “BJP-backed goons” of the crime. “Around 3 pm, they entered our house and shot my son. When my wife, Putul, tried to save the boy, they attacked her too. They also snatched a silver chain from her neck,” he alleged. The incident has triggered a blame game between the BJP and Trinamool Congress leaders. The two parties were tied at nine votes for the post of pradhan in the local gram panchayat. New Delhi: China has alerted India about the rising water in river Tsangpo, called Siang in Arunachal Pradesh and Brahmaputra in Assam, leading to a possibility of floods in downstream areas, Arunachal Pradesh MP Ninong Ering said on Thursday.

A senior official of the Union Water Resources Ministry said it was an unprecedented situation on the Chinese side where Tsangpo broke a 150-year record with swollen waters and hence China has shared the information with India.Ering said the communication from China came following heavy rains in that country after which Tsangpo was in spate. The local authorities told me that the Chinese government has conveyed to Indian government that there is a possibility of floods in parts of Arunachal Pradesh. We have taken the alert seriously and cautioned people," he told PTI.According to a Chinese government report, 9020 cumec of water was discharged into Tsangpo/Brahmaputra river as observed at various stations yesterday. The MP sai Siang has been calm till today but people in East and

Upper Siang districts were cautioned."My own village is in danger of getting flooded," he said. The Union Water Resources Ministry official said Indian experts have analysed the data shared by China and came to the conclusion that the effect may not be so strong in the country even through it was an alarming situation in China. This was the first time this year that China shared the river data with India, the official said.China began sharing data from May 15, while it started sharing data for the Sutlej river from June 1. The sharing of data came after the two sides held talks over the issue in March this year. The data is shared twice daily until October this year. Last year, China had said that the hydrological gathering sites were washed away due to floods. It coincided with the 73-day Doklam stand-off that took place during the peak monsoon period. The Brahmaputra originates from China's Tibet and flows into Arunachal Pradesh, where it is called Siang, and then Assam, where it becomes Brahmaputra, and later drains into the Bay of Bengal through Bangladesh.China provides data from three hydrological

His statement comes amid the ongoing political mudslinging between the Congress and the BJP over the Rafale deal.

Earlier this week, finance minister Arun Jaitley penned a long FB post:

the Supreme Court. He was appointed Chairman of the 21st Law Commission on 10 March. For merely expressing a thought that is not in consonance with the policy of the government of the day, a person should not be charged under the section, the paper said. "Sedition charges can only be invoked where the intention behind any act is to overthrow the government with violence and illegal means," it observed. The paper also cited examples of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student leader Kanhaiya Kumar, who was charged with sedition over the alleged anti-India slogans on the campus. It added that while it was essential to protect national integrity, it should not be misused as a tool to curb free speech. Dissent and criticism are essential ingredients of a robust public debate on policy issues as part of a vibrant democracy, it observed, and therefore, every restriction on free speech and expression must be carefully scrutinised to avoid unwarranted restrictions. The Commission also hoped that a healthy debate takes place in the country among the legal luminaries, lawmakers, government and non-government agencies, academia, students and the general public on the topic, so that a public friendly amendment could be brought about.

If the country is not open to positive criticism, there lies little difference between the pre- and post-independence eras. Right to criticise one's own history and the right to offend are rights protected under free speech," the consultation paper said.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Air Force has set a new time record of its own by flying its longest non-stop flight. The feat came last month, when an IAF heavy lift transport plane flew at least 8100 km at a stretch, from Chennai to Australia. The Indian Air Force transport plane was flown to Australia to take part in the multi-nation Pitch Black air exercises that were hosted by Australia in August. The non-stop flight, which took about 11 hours, happened in August 16.The Boeing C-17 Globemaster of the IAF took off from Chennai just before sunrise and landed on the runway of Townsville on the eastern coast of Australia 11 hours later. This flying feat is significant because it is another demonstration of India's strategic airlift capability. That means the IAF has the capability of moving large amounts of personnel over long distances. Strategic airlift capability allows military the leadership to move soldiers, large guns and even battle tanks from one theatre of war to another. Meaning, a large number of Indian soldiers, battle tanks, artillery guns and supplies can be moved quickly from India's western front to the eastern front. This also means a military can spend on fewer pieces of expensive equipment to play roles across a massive area. The Indian Air Force is the world's second largest operator of the Boeing C-17 Globemaster aircraft. It has 10 of the massive jets, far behind the US fleet of 222.The C-17 is a massive plane. It's huge capacity and heavy lifting capability can see it carry multiple battle tanks at once. It also has massive holding room for troops and cargo. The C-17 can also be pressed into service in disaster, relief and rescue operations. IAF C-17s were a major component of India's efforts to evacuate a large number of Indians and people of other nationalities from Yemen, when the civil war intensified in 2015.

New Delhi: Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday disapproved the remarks of the BJP's Jammu and Kashmir chief criticising N N Vohra, saying the former Governor had performed with distinction and maintained the dignity of the constitutional post.

In a statement, Singh said the governor's post is constitutional and has its own dignity and it is expected from a governor that he or she performs impartially without fear and favour.

"N N Vohra was an outstanding officer. As a governor, he performed with distinction and maintained the constitutional dignity," he said.

The home minister said people of Jammu and Kashmir appreciated the role of Vohra as a governor for 10 years. Singh's statement came after president of BJP's Jammu and Kashmir unit Ravinder Raina was heard purportedly saying in a video that the party did not want to continue with Vohra and "our own man" has now been appointed as a new governor replacing Vohra.Raina has also allegedly said that Vohra used to tom-tom his own achievements. The home minister said the new governor Satya Pal Malik has a long political career and he was appointed by President Ram Nath Kovind."I am sure people of Jammu and Kashmir will be benefitted from his (Malik's) long experience," he said. Malik was appointed as governor of Jammu and Kashmir on August 21 replacing Vohra.Malik has been the first career politician to be appointed as the governor of the restive state after Karan Singh, who held the post from 1965 to 1967. Vohra was a former Union Home and Defence Secretary besides being a principal secretary to the former Prime Minister I K Gujral.

All accused were granted bail after furnishing a personal bond and surety amount of Rs 1 lakh each.As the matter came up for hearing, the CBI urged the court to issue a production warrant against RJD chief Lalu Yadav who is also named in the case. The veteran Bihar politician could not appear before the Patiala House Court today as he is in judicial custody in Ranchi.Responding to the CBI's plea, Special Judge Arun Bhardwaj issued a production warrant against Lalu Prasad Yadav for producing him on October 6.

Investigation was conducted. Almost all the accused were associated with Kabir Kala Manch," Singh added in the press conference. The top cop

added that during investigations, it was revealed that 'a big controversy' was being plotted by Maoist organisations. "The five accused were helping them take their goals forward. A terrorist organisation was also in-volved. On May 17, they were booked under

Three-year-old Bengal boy shot in the head still critical, no arrest so farA three-year-old boy who was shot in the head at his home in Malda district during the violence over the formation of Bengal’s rural boards continues to be in a critical condition.

“The party will bear all the expendi-ture,” he added. Although ruling party leaders wanted the boy shifted to a

Kolkata hospital, they were advised against it in view of the boy’s critical condition.
