President’s Message

Fellow Lincoln Foothills Kiwanians,

My year as President has come to an end. I want to thank each of you for all the

support you have given me this past year. I have such great memories of the many

ways we have made a different in our community and at the Kiwanis Family

House.

With your support, we started a new Key Club at Phoenix High School. Several of

the students are now training preschoolers the “Sight Word.” We have two more

students that will be graduating and are in the process of filling out Scholarship

Request Forms.

Learning how to give back to their community has brought smile on the Key

Clubbers as well as the kids that they are teaching. They feel good about helping a

child learn to read.

Our support at The Salt Mine and the Placer Food Bank has made our members

feel they are working to help close the gap between hunger and full tummies.

Safety Awareness Day provides such a wonderful way to help children prevent

accidents and, also what to do on an emergency. This is such a valuable program.

K-Kids and BUGs provides our kids with help for improving grades (BUGs) and

developing leadership skills and community involvement. We are helping to build

the future leaders.

This coming year, we will start the first Children’s Health Faire in Lincoln and

develop a Builders Clubs at one of our Middle Schools.

When asked who we are, I always can say Kiwanians are kindhearted, eager to help,

caring, and most of all willing to lend a helping hand in time of need. We are there

to help make a difference in our community and in the lives of children. You guys

ROCK!

Thanks for all you do. We are making a difference.

Mary

Safety Awareness Day

Lincoln Crossing Elementary School

Contributed by Christine Cirrone

Monday, September 30, 2019, 9:00 AM - 12:00 Noon

Safety Awareness Day teaches elementary school children how to be “safe” in school, in their community and at

home. Presented in a friendly, inter-active and exciting venue that young children can understand and will enjoy!

This event, a Signature Project of the Kiwanis Club of Lincoln Foothills, is in its fourth year and fourth elementary

school.

A secondary, but vital, component of Safety Day, will afford children the opportunity to see our law, fire and safety

enforcement professionals as “people”—moms and dads doing their jobs– helping their friends and neighbors. It is

our hope that this experience will forever impress these children that our brave police, firemen and emergency

responders are people they can feel comfortable seeing in their neighborhood and asking for help when they need it.

Our goal is to bring Safety Awareness Day into every elementary school in Lincoln on a rotating yearly schedule.

Many dignitaries from throughout Placer County attended each year to show their support and share the excitement.

At Lincoln Crossing Elementary, Kiwanis volunteers, the Lincoln Police Department, Auburn CHP and K-9, Motor

Officers, Lincoln Fire Department, California Operation Lifesaver and Union Pacific Railroad, CERT citizen

volunteers and others will set up “Stations” along the inside courtyard. This year we are proud to have the American

Red Cross presenting their safety program of Youth Preparedness joining our volunteer team!

Students in grades 3-5 will receive items donated by presenters and Kiwanis Club of Lincoln Foothills –Safety

Booklets, Badges, Stickers, etc. Of course, the cooperation and support of administrators, teachers and staff is vital to

our success and greatly appreciated.

Additionally, on a day soon after the event, in order to reinforce the important lessons learned, each class will have a

“poster contest” where children are asked to make a poster showing their favorite part of the day. Kiwanis will be

happy to give the winning poster class a special treat—an ice cream social for the entire class.

Are you buying on Amazon via Amazon Smile? When you do, .05% of the purchase is donated to our club. And you

pay no more than if you purchased on the regular Amazon website. And it is money we can put into the Admin

Fund. Think what we could get if everyone started using it for their regular Amazon purchases. So here's how to

make sure your purchases are benefiting the Kiwanis Club of Lincoln Foothills.

1. When signing on to Amazon, go to https://smile.amazon.com, or just click on the logo above.

2. When signing in the first time, it should prompt you to choose your charity. Select the Kiwanis Club of Lincoln

Foothills. You can always change your charity via the drop down box appearing under the search bar on the

Amazon Smile website.

3. Just use the site normally, as you have always used Amazon. The donation to our club is automatic.

Just a side note: Not every product is eligible for the Amazon Smile donation. If a product is eligible, it will be noted

on the product page, and on your check-out itemization. But don't worry about that. Whether the item is eligible or

not, it can still all be bought via the Amazon Smile website (they will figure it all out for you).
