News from Winston-Salem Assembly #37 News from the DeMolay
NC MASONIC YOUTH VISIT WHITESTONE: The North Carolina DeMolay hosted a family reunion at WhiteStone to
cap off the Thanksgiving weekend and prime us for the Advent season. A little more than 45 DeMolay, Rainbow Girls,
parents and advisors descended on the campus on Sunday, Nov 25th, for an afternoon with our extended family. A
Sunday service in the Chapel was conducted by Andrew Williard, Master Councilor of the Winston-Salem DeMolay
chapter, during which he enumerated the things for which he is thankful, culminating with his membership in the greater
Masonic family. Following the message, Mrs. Ernestine Beal, WhiteStone resident and mother of three Senior
DeMolays, accompanied the group on piano as Christmas carols were sung. The event concluded with refreshments,
which were brought by the NC Rainbow Girls, and a whole lot of fellowship in the Activity Room. It was a glorious
afternoon spent with family and the perfect way to begin the holiday season.
MEBANE CHRISTMAS PARADE: The North Carolina Masonic Youth met in Mebane on Friday night, December 7th, to
take part in the town’s annual Christmas parade. Most members rode on a float of white and blue wintriness while
others carried an 8 foot garland-outlined banner that displayed the IORG and DeMolay logos and websites. After the
parade, the group enjoyed pizza and fellowship at the local bowling alley, and although the night had been cold and
rainy, the warmth of being with friends mixed with holiday cheer was all that was needed for the event to be a success.
CHRISTMAS TEA AND INITIATION: Bahama Assembly
initiated three new members on Sunday, December 9th.
Members from Raleigh, Spring Lake, and Winston-Salem
attended the initiation. Afterwards, tea and cocoa were
served in a variety of beautiful Christmas cups along with
an assortment of delicious cookies and sweets.
WELCOME: We’re so excited to welcome Stephanie
Vargas and Laura Carmona into our sisterhood. We look
forward to many, many fun times together.
INITIATION IN GREENSBORO: On Sunday, December 9th,
DeMolay brothers from Greensboro, Raleigh, Asheboro,
and Winston-Salem met at the downtown temple in
Greensboro to initiate 2 new brothers into the Raleigh
Chapter, 2 into Asheboro, and 2 into Winston-Salem. A
reception and fellowship followed the degrees.
WELCOME: We welcome Tyler Brown into the Winston-
Salem Chapter, and congratulate Nathan Noah on
receiving his DeMolay degree.
TANGLEWOOD FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS: The Triad Masonic Youth enjoyed a recognized “Top 20 Event in the
Southeast” on Monday night, Dec 10th. Amassed in the backs of two trucks, the group of 16 made the 4 mile trek
through Tanglewood Park enjoying the 180 holiday displays and over one million lights while listening to Christmas
carols. Although rain threatened, it was a beautiful starry night, and we even stopped for hot chocolate at the bon fire.
PEPPERMINT BALL: The Winston-Salem Chapter of DeMolay hosted a
Peppermint Ball on Saturday, Dec 15th, with a lock-in following. Just over
60 Rainbow Girls, DeMolay and advisors from as far away as Jacksonville
did the Wobble, the Electric Slide, the Cupid Shuffle and many other
dances to music provided by First Class DJs. All told, ten DeMolay
Chapters and IORG Assemblies were represented. In addition to a great
cardio workout, everyone enjoyed the time together cutting loose
(footloose) and raising money for the American Cancer Society, and
although the attire was formal, within an hour and a half it became apparent
that everyone was there to have some serious fun.

GRAND CROSS OF COLOR LUNCHEON
On Sunday, Nov 18th, Masters of the Grand Cross of Color
renewed their Obligation of Service to the International
Order of the Rainbow for Girls in appreciation of the
honor bestowed upon them. Prior to the service, over 50
people, including active Rainbow Girls and their families,
enjoyed a luncheon prepared by our Chairman of the
Board, Mrs. Judy Sigmon. A very special presentation
was then made as Mrs. Jamie Arnold Butcher received
the Grand Cross she had been awarded in 1998 but due to
circumstances beyond her control never received.

We were honored Saturday, Nov 17th, to receive special
instruction on our floor and ritualistic work from Mrs.

Italian Restaurant to share more time together over lunch.

The Winston-Salem Chapter met on Monday, Nov 12th, to

did in founding DeMolay. Following the Dad Land Talk,
which was given to DeMolay members and visitors, the
Chapter voted to donate $100 in memory of Dad Land to a
DeMolay Chapter that was adversely affected by
Hurricane Sandy. And, after hearing about Dad Land’s
devotion and work in building their brother organization,
the Winston-Salem Rainbow Assembly voted to donate
$100 to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Greenville in
memory of Dad Land.

Grand Worthy Advisor Kaitlyn Kubacki, which was held at Great Wolf Lodge in Concord – an indoor water park
complete with rides and slides as well as a bowling alley and arcade. Prior to check-in at the Lodge, the group enjoyed a
tour of the Charlotte Motor Speedway, including a lap around the Superspeedway where you could feel the full-tilt force
of the 24-degree banking. Following an afternoon of play and a pizza party Saturday night, the group attended the faux
wedding of Winston-Salem Assembly’s “Flat Perry” to Raleigh Assembly’s “Flat Perrita”. The wedding was performed
by our Grand Worthy Advisor with members of Winston-Salem acting as grooms-people and members of Raleigh
serving as bridesmaids. The DeMolay proudly served as ushers. Delicious wedding cake was served after the ceremony.

75TH
RAINBOW SESSION OF HOPE & CELEBRATION
It’s hard to believe, but another Grand Assembly has
come and gone! This year, 10 members of the Winston-
Salem Assembly were able to attend, and what a time we
had. The celebration began with a formal banquet at which
the Assembly performed the song “Pass It On”,
distributing glow bracelets as we sang. The next day we
were rewarded for our labors on our scrapbook with a 2nd
place trophy, and the following day, we were extremely
happy to have 2 of our members selected as Grand
Officers and 8 appointed as Grand Representatives. Grand
Officers: Emily Williard (Grand Hope) and Rebecca
Holler (Grand Recorder). Grand Representatives: Destiny
Eller (AR), Morgan Frank (KY), Hannah Shick (ME),
Lydia Wonderly (MO), Kaitlynne Tuttle (NV), Amy
Wolff (SC), Katie Gordon (TX), and Sarah Stanley (VT).
TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING? NEVER!
The Assembly once again piled into a vehicle on
Monday, July 2nd
, and this time headed to James B. Green
Lodge to visit our sisters in Raleigh Assembly #4. In
keeping with our Grand Worthy Advisor’s teamwork
theme, all members wore their session t-shirts and adorned
themselves with “eye black”. Following the meeting,
games were played, cake and ice cream shared, and we all
talked and laughed until it was time to hit the road back to
W-S. The ride back was made easier with the presence of
the Traveling Pot of Gold, which was passed to us.
Not ready to be separated, following a visit to Shriners
Hospital in Greenville, SC, the Raleigh Assembly visited
the Winston-Salem Assembly the following Friday night
to return one of our members and to take back the
Traveling Pot of Gold. After dinner, we showed our
Raleigh sisters around Winston-Salem, including Wake
Forest University where we rolled down the lawn at
BB&T Field. We capped off the night with the savory
sweetness known as Krispy Kreme, and as is the way with
all Rainbow functions, the evening culminated in a sleep-
over. The following day we held a Founder’s Day
celebration and once again had to part company… We
learned that when it comes to our Rainbow sisters, you can
never get too much of a good thing!
INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS & DANCE
You are cordially invited to attend the Installation of
Officers for Winston-Salem DeMolay on August 4th at
6:00 pm at Old Town Lodge. A reception and dance will
immediately follow.
ASHEBORO INITIATION
On June 30th, the Chapter traveled to Balfour Masonic
Lodge in Asheboro to assist with the Initiatory and
DeMolay degrees. Pizza and fellowship followed the
degrees.
LENDING A HELPING HAND
Winston-Salem’s Senior Councilor, Andrew Williard,
served as an usher in Raleigh at this year’s Grand
Assembly of NC, Int’l Order of the Rainbow for Girls.
While performing his ushering duties, Andrew was able to
meet up with Nathan Fontes, the State Master Councilor,
as well as some of the Raleigh DeMolay who had come to
support all of our Rainbow sisters.
