Extensive use of servo drives all over themachine guarantees reliable and stableoperation with consistent results and ahigh production uptime.

Thermal equilibrium throughout thereplication line, fast mechanical disc stabilization with help of spin-coolers, afully integrated process air conditioningunit, a fast and homogeneous radiationdrying station with tilt control, uniformsputtering throughout the target lifetime, conditioning steps to relax tensions after drying and metallizing,

a thermally balanced bonding stationand a UV curing station with tilt compensation and advanced excentricitycontrol all contribute to high productionyield, superior disc quality and stabilityfor actual and future recording speeds.Beyond that, the modular STREAMLINE IIDVD R is already prepared for the inte-gration of all hardware and processesnecessary to produce all dual layerrecordable DVD formats.

The STREAMLINE II DVD R is prepared fora downstream cycle time of well below 3 seconds.

Its modular design allows generally theimplementation of different options -even buffers and a third injection molding machine can be integrated. However, to maintain a high level ofproduction stability and disc quality, we can recommend only an inline systemwith two injection molding machines, both running symmetrically with equivalent process conditions.

STREAMLINE II CD-R Mass Production System for CD-R

The STREAMLINE II CD-R is a new, fastand reliable manufacturing system forrecordable CD. Taking advantage of themany years of production experienceSINGULUS acquired with the popularfirst STREAMLINE, the new STREAMLINEII is designed for the integration of threeinjection molding machines and offers adownstream cycle time potential of lessthan 1.5 seconds.

Extremely reproducible and stable inoperation, the fast STREAMLINE II isagain a result of our profound R&Dactivities in all multiply interactingprocess areas from mastering via molding and dye technology towardsmetallization and bonding. Thoseresearch activities generate the expertise to design reliable and highly

productive machines and to react quicklyto new technological challenges. Themodular design of the STREAMLINE IIallows the integration of differentoptions like buffer stations in the feed-in and finishing area or a laser discmarker.

introduction of the new SPACELINE II,SINGULUS reacts to the market demandto have a faster, smaller and smarter lineto meet best cost efficiency and a highdaily output.

While the cycle time for the DVD systemhas been reduced from 3 seconds to 2.5 seconds, it incorporates the potentialfor additional improvements. The new machine provide an average dailyproduction rate of up to 30,000 Discsand sets the future benchmark in DVD replication again, a new generation of components allowing enhanced functionality, are used in combinationwith highly improved ergonomics. Thissecond generation of a full automaticDVD replication line is following the philosophy for the utilization of themost advanced and reliable servomotors

available today. These drives of courseare supported by extremely precise gearboxes.

Generally SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES AGplaces its focus on this new line to reachthe highest productivity in the market. To achieve these targets the moldingequipment has to be chosen accordingly. Therefore SINGULUS recommends usingthe latest versions of high speed molding machines like EMOULD S2000,SUMITOMO SD40 or NETSTAL EJET inrelation with an adequate set of DVDmolds.

The design of the new SPACELINE II isprepared to future emerging DVD formats and represents therefore theoptimum for all pre-recorded DVD formats.

We took the results and experiencegained from the installation of over 600DVD production systems worldwide andbuilt a new, better system.

It is our experience from many years inthe optical disc business, that masteringis a key production step and that controlof this technology is decisive for being a frontrunner in the industry. More and more customers chose to buy both replication and mastering equipment out of one hand. Therefore in 2001 SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES acquired OMPBV in Best, The Netherlands as a firststep.

A second important decision was theacquisition of ODME Mastering effectiveJan 1st, 2004 as a further step to prepare for the future generation ofoptical disc formats. Under the nameSINGULUS MASTERING the companiesSINGULUS OMP and ODME have beenunited. This youngest member of theSINGULUS group incorporates uniquecompetence and experience as well as a complete product portfolio for all

existing mastering applications. HansEbinger together with Chris Boomaarswill manage SINGULUS MASTERING. Vice President Marketing & Sales. Chrishas been Managing Director for allmastering related products at ODME andworks since 1989 in the industry.

While CD and DVD were only replacingexisting analogue technology for musicor video storage, now a complete new generation of consumer electronicequipment is approaching. HDTV channels will broadcast high resolutionvideo content, to be viewed on large screen monitors combined with surround sound. These components willform a home theatre with an entirelynew level of audio-visual entertainment. Two formats, Blu Ray Disc and HD-DVDare competing to serve as the associatedoptical disc storage medium.

SINGULUS MASTERING can alreadytoday offer the required masteringequipment for blue laser discs. In cooperation with PHILIPS since the late90s, a special high precision masteringsystem was developed. It was discovered, that Deep UV light, readily availablewith ample power in form of frequency

doubled gas lasers, would be more thansufficient to achieve the 15 GB for HD-DVD or the up to 27 GB for Blu RayDisc. This is a most important finding, as the 25 year experience of opticalphotoresist glass mastering is nowapplicable also for the next generationof optical discs. Indeed, the major players today consider to do their nextgeneration mastering by means of lightoptics.

Today seven Deep UV recorders areoperating successfully in leading laboratories around the world and a lotof experience has been collected. Manyof the disc samples in the current format test phase are mastered on oursystem.

Meanwhile development work continuesto push the limits of the Deep UV system even further. A special trick, thefilling of the air gap between focusinglens and substrate with a liquid, allowsto increase the numerical aperture ofthe system substantially and thereforereduces the writing spot size.

Over the coming years high density bluelaser optical storage will make its wayfrom the development laboratory to theconsumer living room. New generationproduction equipment will be employedto manufacture these discs and there is certainly still a lot of developmentwork to be done. Nevertheless, SINGULUSMASTERING is well positioned tosupport the SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIESgroup as well as our customers with therequired mastering technology.

The long-range goal of SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES is becoming the globallysynonymous with innovative systemsand machines centered around select,highly-profitable areas of application invacuum thin film technology.

Our reasoning is apparent: Technology-based business models have relativelytypical life cycles. This holds true for the

demand for optical data storage mediafrom the CD to the current DVD to theemerging Blu-Ray disc, and to the profitability of the businesses to whichthey are tied. Despite the dynamicdevelopment of the DVD market, thetechnology itself is mature and the markets for DVD manufacturers, i.e.,replicators, are in the midst of a consolidation trend. Nevertheless, the

current growth in the DVD market isextraordinarily dynamic.

The new DVD recordable (DVD±R) andrewritable (DVD±RW/DVD-RAM) formatsprovide additional growth, and the thirdgeneration of optical-data-storagemedia (Blu-Ray, HD-DVD) will be accelerated by the introduction of digital high-definition television inJapan and the U.S.

Two years after the announcement ofour technological venture into newareas of application, we can look backon the considerable progress made. OurTMR technology, which SINGULUS hasworked tirelessly on since the beginningof 2002, has passed all trial runs and

sample coatings successfully. Ouradvanced technological position in thefield of vacuum thin film technology, which was derived from our core business and largely patented, madepossible the transition from our corebusiness into an entirely new arena:

MRAM (magnetic-randomaccess-memory) technology! MRAM uses magnetic elements for the storage ofdata bits instead of an electrical charge.SINGULUS systems will become animportant link in the value-added chainof supply for this new technology.

The companyís second new businessdomain is ophthalmic lens coating. Thisinvolves the precise yet economicalapplication of scratch-resistant andoptically functional layers, i.e., vacuumlayering systems that are much more cost-effective than conventionalsystems.

In close cooperation with our key customer Rupp+Hubrach, a renownedmanufacturer of eyeglass lenses withinthe ESSILOR group, an in line coatingandsystems technology was developedfor single substrates in which hard aswell as multiple AR coatings are applied

exclusively by means of vacuum thinfilm technology. This new combinationof processing stages in the coating ofophthalmic lenses represents a trueinnovation and provides substantialbenefits to customers.
