When Jesus came to this earth two thousand years ago, the temple continued with all its mechanical workings of formalism but lacked the real POWER of the Holy Spirit. At the close of Jesus’ ministry He cleansed the temple and “drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer...” Matthew 21:12,13 NKJV

How Can a Church Become a Church of Prayer?

1.Establish a praying leadership. The pastor and key leaders must buy into prayer! There must be private prayers and praying among the leaders. Only praying leaders build a praying church.

Oklahoma Conference: Update on Pathfinder & Adventurer Clubs by Johnny Flores The Moore church has strong Adventurer and Pathfinder club programs. The Adventurer club is designed to strengthen parent-child relationships; the Pathfinder club is designed to enlarge youth’s windows on the world and both work towards building a relationship with God.  The Moore Minnows and Mustangs are a part of a larger group-the Oklahoma Conference, which has over 18 Adventurer clubs and 22 pathfinder clubs.  There are 250+ pathfinders and staff and over 260 + Adventurers and staff. I would like to share how these SDA young people are not only participating with their clubs, but are witnessing to others.  In this past year, the Oklahoma Conference Adventurers and Pathfinders collectively have participated in: Visiting nursing homes, retirement centers, and homeless shelters and witnessing by visiting, singing, and praying.  They have been camping in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, and visited Missouri.  They have visited the Oklahoma City and Tulsa zoos, they have gone hiking, horseback riding, and fossil hunting.  They’ve provided Christmas assistance to children and families, given turkeys and food baskets, provided winter clothing and feeding the homeless.  They have gone to Magee Lake, Green Leaf State park, Spencer Creek at Oolagah Lake, Wes Watkins Reservoir, Red Bud Valley Preserve, Sulphur Park, Robbers Cave, Chandler Park and Wewoka Woods.  Attended Leadership training, Fall Fitness Day, Director’s Retreat, Adventurer Fun Day, Pine Car Derby, and Bible Experience.  New experiences or participated at Sulphur Antique Tractor & Implement Show, Antlers Deer Festival, New Heights rock

climbing gym, Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum, Science Museum Oklahoma, Tulsa’s Channel 2 News, Museum of Osteology, American Airlines Maintenance & Engineering Center, Oklahoma City Art Museum, Oklahoma Rose Vineyard, Ozark Adventist Academy Music festival, Thunderbird Youth Academy and a Missouri Corn Maze! OK conference pathfinder and adventurer clubs has also marched in front of over ten thousand + people in the following Parades: Antlers, Davis Christmas, OKC Stockyards Christmas, Czech Festival, Ketchum Christmas, Spavinaw Christmas, and Grand Lake’s Pensacola dam.  They have provided chili cook-offs, international dinners, mystery dinners, and even dinner and a show for their church families.  These young people have also baked & delivered cookies and cards to local police and fire stations.  The pathfinders and adventurers have participated in club outings, campouts, Area Camporees and State wide camporees.  They even survived campouts that included a 5.6 earthquake!  In all these outings & activities our young people wear their club t-shirts or uniforms and are very distinctive.  And they have been an active & viable witness to the tens of thousands of people that they have met this year.  When we go out it’s not unusual for people to ask, “What is Adventurers, or What is Pathfinders”, opening a window for witnessing.  According to Dr. Roger Dudley at the Institute of Church Ministry at Andrews University, “Pathfinders and Adventurers are “the most successful youth ministry the church has ever had."Thank you for supporting the wonderful children and staff who are the Pathfinders and Adventurers of the Oklahoma Conference.Johnny FloresOklahoma Central Area Coordinator

HEALTH CORNER WITH HOLLY SMITH

CaffeineAccording to the World Health Organization and the American Psychiatric Association caffeine meets some of the criteria as a drug of dependance and acts on the dopamine system of the brain in much the same way amphetamines and cocaine do. Dopamine is involved in the body's pleasure response. These drugs allow dopamine to linger around once it is released, allowing for longer and greater pleasure. The trouble is it creates an addictive cycle and more dopamine is required each time to get the same effect as before, requiring an increase in the drug of choice. Caffeine has also been found to cause what's called "coffee nerves,” a wide assortment of symptoms including anxiety, irritability, headaches, light-headedness, nausea, and diarrhea. Recent studies are linking coffee drinking to cancer, heart disease, chronic insomnia, abnormal heart beats, hormonal imbalances and more. As Christians we believe that God has given us the victory to be free of any unhealthy dependence and give us a life of freedom in Him (see 1 Corinthians 15:57). I recently ran across an article on caffeine in the Adventist publication Vibrant Life. It listed the following caffeine related health problems.

1. Increases heart rate, elevates blood pressure, and can be a factor in heart disease development2. Activates body's stress hormones3. Causes anxiety and irritability

4. Causes swings in blood sugar, which makes it hard to lose weight and causes problems for diabetics5. Increases risk of developing ulcers and heartburn6. Hinders proper absorption of some vitamins and minerals7. Causes frequent urination and enlarged prostate in men8. Worsens female health problems, such as PMS and menopause9. Dehydrates the body and ages the skin  and kidneys at a faster rate10. Causes adrenal gland exhaustion, leading to fatigue and disorders of the immune system

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple

of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have

from God, and that you are not your own? For

you have been bought with a price: therefore

glorify God in your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19,20

DEPRESSION RECOVERY BY LILIAN DAMAN

Depression is a mental illness that can be costly and debilitating to sufferers. Depression can adversely affect the course and outcome of common chronic conditions, such as arthritis, asthma, cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, and obesity. Depression also can result in increased work absenteeism, short-term disability, and decreased productivity.Depression is one of the most common disorders affecting millions of people worldwide. Depression can affect virtually anyone at any age and may not necessarily affect only people leading unhappy lives. In fact, several successful, prominent people have known to suffer from the disorder at some point in their life. Of course, the condition is usually triggered by negative situations such as a traumatic occurrence either emotionally or physically. It can also be caused by sudden epiphanies that inflict the mind negatively and result in a person developing the condition. The symptoms comprise of mental and physical aspects such as negativity, apathy, tiredness, and change in appetite as well as sleeping patterns. The condition can be treated via a number of ways from antidepressants to talk therapy.Despite being very treatable, the depression statistics are staggering. Statistics on depression suggests that it affects around 120 million people

worldwide and causes over 850,000 deaths a year. These depression statistics make it quite clear that the disorder can be one of the most serious conditions that have plagued us. The depression statistics in 2012 has been quite constant but based on today’s lifestyle and the move towards a faster paced life; it is likely that these numbers could increase. Based on depression statistics in America, around 1 in 10 people suffer from the symptoms associated with the disorder at some point in their life. This is a scary statistic indeed. Depression is certainly a serious phenomenon that should be taken seriously and understanding the statistics can be quite beneficial for the cause.

Hope Adventist Fellowship of Moore is heavily concerned with the issue of depression and is offering to all members and non-members the opportunity to be educated about avoiding the behaviors that lead to depression. Depression Recovery Program is an educational program which empowers individuals to take control of their lives and become stronger to fight depression. With God’s guidance and good information, depression will no longer be a part of our lives. With simple concepts, health tips and sharing testimonies, the program enables participants to identify weak areas in their routines and to substitute detrimental behaviors with a much healthier alternative. We encourage you to come to the free orientation on September 10th at 7:00 pm, to see if the program is right for you. Remember you will only know if it works if you give it a try!

Did you know...The term depression was derived from the Latin verb deprimere, “to press down.” From the 14th century, “to depress” meant to subjugate or to bring down in spirits. It was used in 1665 in English author Richard Baker’s Chronicle to refer to someone having “a great depression of spirit.”

JULY BIRTHDAYS

Did you know...The water lily is rooted in soil, but grows and floats in bodies of water? The leaves and flowers are above the water, while the rest of the plant stays below the water. The water lily seed can survive and be planted for up to 2000 years! The alternate July flower, Larkspur, is a deep blue color that creates a juice used to make ink.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN OUR BACKYARD? WRITTEN BY JOHNNY FLORES

Our beautiful building has adequate worship space, classroom space and lobby space. However there was a need for storage space, so the church board authorized building a storage shed in our own “backyard.” Ernie Wilson volunteered to lead out the team consisting of some very brave men and women from our congregation, who are pitching in to help. From laying out floor plan, to drilling holes for the wood columns and concrete footings, to nailing in the wall girts, to laying a concrete floor and driveway, to putting up the trusses, assembling the wall and roof panels; the storage shed has been built with labor and love by our team.  Oh, i forgot to mention that several children helped out with the building to make sure there were refreshments for the hard workers. Here are several pictures from the labors. Thank you to all!

“Jana went from an eleven year old girl who was resentful about leaving her home and friends in Tennessee and being forced to move to Oklahoma, to a beautiful young woman who found many new good friends, as well as the love of her life. She now embraces Oklahoma as her home. Jana knew nothing about Seventh-day Adventists when she moved here, but was certain that she would never be one. But that also changed and she has served Hope SDA Fellowship in many different ways over the years. She is a devoted wife and mother, a loyal friend and a very generous person. I’m honored to call her my friend.” - Jennifer McMains

Did you know that Jana is the assistant church treasurer and has been for several years? Did you know she plays the bass clarinet? We heard a sermon several weeks ago about how we come to church and put on our “church face” as soon as we walk in the door and don’t really get to know each other on a personal basis. I chose Jana as our member of the month because she is a very quiet person but she always has a smile on her face and is very dedicated to her church and family. Jana was born in St. Joe, Michigan and moved to Tennessee when she was 6 months old and lived there until she moved to Oklahoma when she was 11. At the age of 11 she joined the Adventist church. She met the love of her life, John, in 1998 in the Moore Church and got married there in 2002. Jana doesn’t like to cook although her favorite food is Mexican and her favorite ice cream is butter pecan. She loves to spend her free time sleeping and hanging out with the family, and watching the OKC Thunder play basketball. She is neither a morning person nor a night person. She works 3 days a week as a Cardiac RN in Norman and in her spare time, when she isn’t sleeping, she loves to do arts and crafts with her daughter, Addison. Jana is very passionate about her job as a nurse and her face lights up and she beams when she tells me of some of her experiences at work. Jana and John live in Moore with their two beautiful daughters, Addison and Hadley. When Ernie and I first started attending the Moore Church, Jana and John invited us to their house for lunch. I even remember what she served, Haystacks. Imagine that! I quickly found out that this was the favorite meal for most of our Adventist young couples and is popular to this day.
