1. The Madras High Court on Monday restrained Petroleum Employees Union and Petroleum Workers Union, two trade unions at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), from resorting to a strike from 6 a.m. on November 28 to 6 a.m. the next day, against the Centre’s decision to privatise the public sector enterprise.

1. The Supreme Court on Monday said it would pass an order on Tuesday on the question of holding a floor test in the Maharashtra Assembly.

2. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), leaders of Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress on Monday submitted a letter of support — signed by 162 MLAs — to the office of Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. The tally is 17 more than the minimum required for a majority in the Assembly to form the next government.

3. The Supreme Court on Monday lashed out at the Punjab and Haryana governments for their inability to prevent pollution from stubble burning despite orders from the court, saying the smog from the fires had made Delhi a living hell.

4. Mr. Fadnavis cleared Rs. 5,380 crore from the Maharashtra Contingency Fund as relief for farmers affected by the unseasonal rains. Nearly one crore farmers have been affected by crop damage over 87 lakh hectare area in the past few months in Vidarbha and Marathwada.

9. The statement of objects and reasons of the Bill said that it is “considered to amend the Act to focus on core mandate, as the security of the Prime Minister, as Head of the Government, is of paramount importance for Government, governance and national security.”

10. As per the Bill, “SPG shall provide proximate security to the Prime Minister and his immediate family members residing with him at his official residence.”

11. The Bill says that family members of a former Prime Minister who do not reside with him at his official residence will not be guarded by SPG commandos and those who reside with him at his allotted accommodation will get security cover of the SPG only for five years.

12. The SPG Act was enacted in 1988 to provide for the constitution and regulation of the SPG as an armed force to provide proximate security to the Prime Minister and his/her immediate family members. It was amended in 1991, 1994, 1999 and 2003 to extend SPG cover to former PMs and their immediate family members for different periods of demitting office

13. The first tranche of 6,090 metric tonnes of onions imported by the Centre have been bought from Egypt and will reach the Mumbai port in the first week of December. This consignment is being offered to State governments at Rs. 52-55 per kg in Mumbai and Rs. 60 per kg in Delhi, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs on Monday.

7. Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve has said the city

police is fully equipped to handle situations like the 26/11 terror attack, with personnel trained to combat urban terrorism making it the "strongest force in the country". The city's streets and other land assets are being secured by highly trained personnel, including commandos, as well as sophisticated weaponry and armoured combat vehicles like Marksman, Barve told PTI on the eve of the 11th anniversary of the ghastly terror attack.
