Our school, and 4 other primary schools involved in the Active After-school Communities program, will have the opportunity to develop skills in soccer during the two hour clinic. As you can imagine we are very excited about the prospect of having the Melbourne Heart team members here. This is great news for our school and football fans. We thank Mark Brown, the regional coordinator of the Active After-school Communities program, who nominated our school to host this event and we certainly thank Melbourne Heart for such a strong commitment to regional school fans. Crossing Point Launch Thank you to families and friends who were able to attend the launch of our Crossing Point Learning Community at Albury High School last week. What a wonderful display of public education and a great way to promote the partnership that we share with Albury and Howlong Public Schools and Albury High. This learning community has a solid sense of purpose and vision for learning. With enthusiastic and engaged students, and a highly talented staff across all of the schools there is much for which we can be proud. We will continue to applaud our successes and celebrate all of the innovative occurrences within the learning community in the coming years. Special congratulations to Isabelle Nicol who was shortlisted in the Crossing Point logo design – she was awarded a $50 JB HiFi gift voucher. Thank you to the teachers and the many students who contributed items of learning for the school display and a big thank you to Lynne Johnston who coordinated the display.

Fruit Flies A huge congratulations to our 2013 Fruit Fly students: Tiarna Whybrow, Tyrese Campbell, Narjic Lacey-Bird, Taralee Bottrell and Iziaha Johnson for their successful participation in the Fruit Fly Circus Program for Indigenous Students. Tiarna, Narjic and Tyrese showcased their skills in front of a large audience from the Albury community last week at the Fruit Fly performance centre. K-2 Party Our K-2 students had an exciting day today visiting Rumble Tumbles for their end of year party. They were certainly exhausted when they returned to school. Thank you to Leisa Grantham for organising this wonderful excursion for our children. Reports Children in Years K – 6 will be coming home with their report card this afternoon. We hope you enjoy the many positive comments about your amazing children. I have gained enormous insight about the effort and achievements of all our students and appreciate the time staff have put into collating all of this information. Year 6 Graduation Dinner and Disco A reminder that the Year 6 Graduation Ceremony, Dinner and Disco will take place tonight. Thank you to the many families who are pitching in to help make this a special night for our graduating students. Thank you to Christina Klein for all of the preparation that goes into planning such a wonderful evening. Farewell Year 6 I would like to sincerely wish all Year 6 students every success for high school and their future. In the coming years we would all love to hear from you, however far you fly from Albury West. The world is your oyster. Sing-a-long Our Sing-a-long will be held tomorrow in the school hall at 11.45am. We hope that you can come along and listen to all of our students, including our Little Gems, sing for you. We need to say a very big thank you to Lisa Bradshaw for the hours that she has spent making sure that tomorrow will be a success for all – THANK YOU! Pool Party The students in Years 3 – 6 will be heading to the Albury Swimming Pool on Tuesday. Students will walk to the pool and will return by bus. Don’t forget to provide swimmers, towel, hat, sunscreen and a T Shirt. The pool canteen will be open for food and drinks during the morning session. Congratulations Jack Jorgensen has once again made his mark with an invitation to perform at the Sydney Opera House next year to play the violin. Certainly this is an opportunity not to be missed and the school and community are very proud of him and his achievements. Happy Holidays The last day of term for students is Wednesday 18th December. While it may be the furthest thing from our minds at the moment, the new school year for students in Years 1 – 6 will commence on Wednesday 29th January. Staff will be attending professional learning focussed on departmental policy on the Tuesday. All activities will support your child’s learning. Kindergarten students will commence on Thursday 30th January.

Christmas Hampers Thanks so much to everyone that made donations and purchased tickets for the Christmas hampers. The raffle will be drawn at the sing along assembly tomorrow. There are five hampers in total, and they look amazing! A big thank you is extended to Amanda Parker for assisting with the wrapping and packing of the hampers. Final note We have had a very successful year of fundraising in 2013. We had raffles (Easter and Christmas), Mother’s Day stall, Election Day stall, Nail Can Hill BBQ, chocolate run and 5c fundraiser. None of these would be possible without your support and I thank you all so much for your assistance over the past 12 months. Even a small contribution helps a lot. I also need to thank Mrs Julien, Ms Johnston, all the school staff and the P & C members for their support of fundraising efforts this year. An extra big thank you to Caryll, Karin and Trudy in the front office, because it definitely couldn’t happen without them coordinating cakes, money, donations, notes, tickets etc. They do it all with a smile and unending patience. Merry Christmas and a fantastic 2014 to you all! Shelley Riddell Join us on Facebook!
