As part of our work on the WW1 Centenary project and to support staff and student wellbeing we are holding a “World Walk Challenge” involving staff and students who, in a two-week period (from Monday 13 March until Friday 24 March), will make an effort to take more steps and contribute to a virtual walk through the British Empire. This would require 73,762,000 steps in total. We hope that this event will honour the generous response of the British colonies in WW1 where over half a million soldiers from the colonies lost their lives fighting for the British. We also hope that staff and students simply make an effort to move more and think about adopting a more active lifestyle. The event is threefold though! We have set ourselves a fundraising target of £10,000 which we want to use to support the superb work that Headley Court Military Rehabilitation Centre in Epsom does for our current servicemen and women. To help with this we are seeking support from celebrities, Invictus Games athletes and sports personalities who will lead activities from walking, dancing and even the Haka at lunchtimes – all in a bid to increase our step count and help us meet that whopping step total! We are making the event as high profile as possible and we would like as many students and staff as possible to get involved and sign up to the challenge. If 526 of us signed up and aimed to do the recommended 10,000 steps a day as well as raise £20.00 in sponsorship, we would meet our target so this is a huge challenge! But we are confident that the Collingwood community will do it! We believe that this will be a popular event and so if your child would like to be involved you will need to pay a £2.00 joining fee on ParentPay. This £2.00 will secure your child a place on the challenge, entrance to optional activity step activities and a medal at the end. As long as your child has their own step counter either on their mobile phone or a fitbit this will suffice. We do have a small number of step counters to loan students should this be required. We would urge anyone who signs up to use the following sponsorship link to encourage friends and family to dig deep and support this excellent charity: http://www.justgiving.com/CollingwoodWorldWalkChallenge

The deadline for entries is this Friday 3 March at 3.05pm! In addition, we are seeking sponsorship to help fund the project and we are requesting items that could be used in a silent auction to help generate further money. If you are able to help at all please do get in touch with me by email on: [email protected] You can see updates about the event by following us on twitter: @Collingwood_WWC

The tour of Los Angeles, which took place on the first full day, started off with a trip to the iconic Hollywood sign and the Griffith Observatory. After seeing the surreal and stunning sights we hopped back on the coach, driven by the wonderful Fernando, and went to Grauman's Chinese Theatre and Walk of Fame. We were given the opportunity to explore all the famous Hollywood names from Elizabeth Taylor to Clint Eastwood, James Stewart to Sandra Bullock, as well as the cast of Star Wars, Harry Potter and The Hunger Games.

Fernando continued to drive us around LA taking us to Olvera Street, or ‘Little Mexico’, notorious streets and famous film locations. That evening we spent two hours at Universal City

Walk before dining at Bubba Gump Shrimp where we enjoyed a tasty meal and were quizzed on our Forrest Gump knowledge.

Every morning the race for breakfast was decided by Mr Ruffles’ quiz questions and ended with an award and punishment ceremony from the previous day.

On the third day we went to Sony and Warner Bros studios. At Sony we were given the opportunity to explore props from movies such as Spiderman and TV shows such as Breaking Bad. After Sony, we all went for lunch, the majority of us going to In-N-Out Burger, before heading off to the Warner Bros Film Studio. At Warner Bros many Friends fans were excited to sit on the couch, whilst fans of The Big Bang Theory had the opportunity to see the set it is filmed in. Prior to this was an extraordinary tour of the sets built by Warner Bros, an exhibition of props from the Harry Potter movies and a collection of Batmobiles from a range of Batman movies. That same night we went out for a ‘zesty’ game of bowling.

The Universal Studios tour was by far the most interactive experience. The tour of the studios involved a drive down Wisteria Lane from Desperate Housewives, a flood, an earthquake and a plane crash. Once again, there was a Harry Potter feature, except this time it involved an extremely grand Hogwarts accompanied by Hogsmeade. Having spent the day in the glorious LA sunshine on the Universal rides we went back to the hotel to pack and swim in the pool.

On the final day of our trip Fernando drove us down to Santa Monica where we enjoyed a shopping trip before eating

cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory on Venice Beach. We all then braved another ten hour flight home to the UK.

The trip was unforgettable, largely thanks to great people, food and experiences. Film gurus had the opportunity to see where their favourite movies were shot, and people with no knowledge of film had the chance to soak up the sun and make memories. None of this would have been possible without Miss Angell, Mr Woods and Mr Ruffles so thank you all so much for a zesty, once in a lifetime trip!

We are still holding a large amount of exam certificates for students that left us recently. Please do not confuse the results emailed in August with certificates. Certificates are the official documents that are provided to employers and higher education establishments as proof of qualifications. If your son/daughter’s exam candidate number started with the number 2, 3 or 4 and they don’t have their certificates, please request them to email [email protected] so arrangements can be made for collection. Uncollected exam certificates will be returned to the exam boards in due course. The exam boards will charge to provide a certifying statement of results when needed in the future. WORLD OF WORK - ARMY CAREERS On Tuesday 21 February Army Officer, Sandra Borrowdale, visited Collingwood’s Library as part of the World of Work initiative. Sandra spoke to students about the career opportunities available in the Army and how the Army can sponsor studies. Students learnt what grades needed to be achieved and what salary they may expect to be paid. Students said that the talk was very beneficial to them because they gained more information about what job they could do and to maybe consider this path as a career. Our next session on Tuesday 7 March is all about Human Resources careers with one of the top Human Resources consultants in Surrey.

Surrey County Council is consulting on proposals for highway improvements to the A30 and Camberley Town Centre including potential changes to the A30 bus lane. The consultation is open until Sunday 9 April 2017 and during this period we are inviting the public, businesses and resident organisations to find out more about the proposals online or at one of our public exhibitions. It will be of particular interest to those who use the A30 at peak times or who regularly visit the Camberley Town Centre area. The proposed changes aim to reduce peak hour delays along the A30, maintain bus reliability and improve accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists on routes to and within Camberley town centre. You can provide your feedback by completing a short questionnaire either online or at the exhibition. All information about the proposals, public exhibitions and the online questionnaire can be found at Surrey Heath Major Transport Schemes.

Surrey County Council staff will be present at all public exhibitions to help with questions about the proposals and consultation process.
