Is your name recognized among those who faithfully observe the annual spring planting season? I, for one, was brought-up that way at home; and wasn’t allowed any other option! We went through the detailed process every year, early in the month of May. There would be a call made to the farmer just down the road from us, to come and plow-up our significantly-sized garden area, in preparation. As kids, we found it fun and fascinating to stand and watch the tractor arrive and turn over our soil. And we also knew that not long thereafter, ‘the work’ would begin! And we anticipated that what started out looking like—’just dirt’ — soon would be transformed into the green and prosperous look of a “Garden of Eden!”

It is also of interest to me, that God chose a very similar picture, to describe our personal relationship to Him - as we ‘grow-up’ in the Lord! So, it didn’t take long for me to adopt the Bible’s First Psalm as one of my favorites! It refers to the person who regularly delights in turn-ing to read and meditate upon Gods Word, saying: “He is like a tree, planted by streams of water, that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither; but, in all that he does, he prospers (Psalm 1:3)!”

So, the truth given to us near the end of Psalm One, says: “The wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish!”

Each Spring, we anticipate a good and sufficient harvest: not really knowing which way the weather may turn, but simply trusting in our Good Lord to know and meet our needs. WOMEN IN M ISSION & LWML NEWS

Women In Mission met on Thursday, May 10 in the Fel-lowship Hall. Pastor Boehme led the Bible Study from the spring Quarterly. “What Do You Have To Say?” We as Christian should have a lot to say about the message of salva-tion with people we meet everyday. The Holy Spirit witnesses to us and we need to be witnesses to all and tell them what Christ has done through our own lives.

Jane Teschke presided at the meting. Secretary, Treasurer and Committee reports were given. Christian Service con-tinues to make 33 visits per month. As of May 10, 65 prayer shawls have been made and delivered. All those re-ceiving a shawl feel so blessed to know people are praying for them. Sunshine sent 5 Birthday cards, 1 Get Well and 1 Encouragement card to shut-in members. Quilters have been busy since Septem-ber and have made 179 quilts so far.

The women voted to change

the June meeting to the last week in June (26th) when the Wasmund family, adopted by Trinity in March 2011, will be here. Hostesses were Mardy Sny-der and Pat Trench.

LWML Mite News: Women In Mission would like to thank Trinity members for their continued financial gifts in 2010-2012 supporting MN So and National Mission Grants. The total contrib-uted, including funds from Women In Mission, was $3,037.15. To God Be The Glory!

MN So LWML Conven-tion will be held June 22-24 at the Verizon Center, Man-kato. Christian Life Day is the 22nd and the opening service of the convention is at 7:30 p.m. The theme will be “Extreme YOU Makeover.” Delegates to the convention are Jane Teschke and Fari-bault Zone President, Betty

Velzke.

Trinity will Host Two Missionary Families: On June 26, Women In Mission and the Mission Action Team will host Matt & Dee Was-mund and their two children. A Potluck Lunch will be served at 12:00 and the Was-munds will tell Trinity mem-bers of their work in East Asia after the lunch. All Trinity members are invited to attend and should bring a dish to share.

On Thursday, July 12 at 1:00 p.m. Women In Mission will host Don & Pam Leo-nard, partners in Wycliffe Bible Translators. They will tell us what is happening with their Vernacular Video Mis-sion International in Asia. In March 2010, Trinity Church supported the China Package #6 with $20,000. The video equipment was delivered per-sonally by Larry & Vivian Hagre when they traveled to China that March. All Trin-ity members and friends are invited to attend the

SPECIAL PRESENTATION - MONDAY JUNE 4TH - 7PM

Trinity Lutheran is working with Rev. Dr. James Gim-bel who will be helping lead a congregational self-study. He is reviewing all of the responses given to the Every Member Visitors. He has met with some of the EMV visitors to plan a con-gregational meeting sched-uled for Monday evening, June 4 at 7 PM.

There the EMV visitors will present a digest of the information gathered in the visits. Dr. Gimbel will pro-vide an analysis of the in-formation and solicit con-gregational feedback. From there, Dr. Gimbel will help plan an opportunity to as-sess the congregation’s strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats.

The ultimate goal is to help the congregation see and use its strengths, and mini-mize our weaknesses and threats so that we can take advantage of new opportu-nities that God is placing before us. This is part of the Intentional Interim process. All members of Trinity are encouraged to attend this June 4th meeting.

Leonard presentation. Re-freshments will be served.

If you have questions call Jane Teschke, 332-0416.

BOOK SUGGESTION. . .

Five Cries of Parents by

Merton P. Strommen

Being a father is difficult business and always has been! Fathers are called on to work, cut the grass, fix the fence, take out the garbage, teach their children how to fish, play basketball, fix cars, drive nails, grill, etc.

God's Word teaches that the greatest thing Christian fathers can do for their children is to teach them to love Christ and to serve Him with their lives.

This is seen in the duties God has given fathers as the spiritual head of the house-hold. The Christian father is to serve his family as their house priest. Deuteron-omy 6:4-9 speaks of this:

"Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might. AND THESE WORDS WHICH I COMMAND YOU THIS DAY SHALL BE IN YOUR HEART. YOU SHALL DILIGENTLY TEACH THEM TO YOUR CHILDREN AND SHALL TALK OF THEM WHEY YOU SIT IN YOUR HOUSE, WHEY YOU WALK BY THE WAY, WHEY YOU LIE DOWN, AND WHEN YOU RISE UP. YOU SHALL BIND THEM AS A SIGN TO YOUR HAND, AND THEY SHALL BE AS FRONTLETS BETWEEN YOUR EYES. YOU SHALL WRITE THEM ON THE DOOR POSTS OF YOUR HOUSE AND ON THE GATES."

These words tell earthly fathers that the heavenly Father values teaching the faith to children as a most important task but one that it not always done.

Merton P. Strommen's book, Five Cries of Parents, laments the fact that the "concept of father as priest in the home is a relic of the past in most homes - a discarded practice" (p. 134). The marked decline in the religious interest of youth is in great part "due to neglect with respect to the historic functions of the father as the religious leader in the home" (p. 143).

As Father's Day will be observed again in our nation this month, it is an opportunity for Christian fathers to ex-amine how they have been carrying out their important spiritual tasks of sharing their Christian faith 1. during daily in-teraction in the family; 2. during struc-tured devotional and worship times at home and in the church, and 3. by living the faith in daily life.

The Apostle John encouraged Chris-tian fathers saying, "I write to you fa-thers, because you know Him Who is from the beginning" (I John 2:13). Christian fathers know Christ by faith. Their children have been baptized into that same faith. Christian fathers are to daily nourish and strengthen that faith by word and by example.

If you want your children to have rev-erence for Christ and His Word, then model godly reverence in your own life as a Christian father. As you daily read your Bible in devotions at home, as your regularly study God's Word in the Sun-day morning Bible class, and as you regularly gather in God's house to hear God's Word applied to your lives, you show your children that God's Word is important to you. And you are better equipped to teach that Word to your kids.

If Christian fathers want their children

to pray, then teach them to pray in the home. Pray with the family at meals, at bed time, in family devotions, and in church on Sunday morning. Help your children to learn to pray from their heart as they are led by the Holy Spirit. Teach your children how to use devo-tional aids like Portals of Prayer, or the children's devotional booklets distrib-uted through the Sunday Schools to each child for home use.

And fathers if you desire that your children value Christian worship, then worship with your children each Sun-day with joy in your heart. In the Di-vine Service your children see you con-fess your sins, and hear you publicly confession your Christian faith. In that simple act of confession, your children learn that you are also sinful and in need of the righteousness of Christ as they are.

Rev. Melford Knutson put it well, "It is imperative that a father admit his own failures [to his child] so that the child will realize that he is living in an imperfect [and sinful] world where the struggle between good and evil ever goes on. To help a child confess his sins and to find pardon from his parents and Christ is to give lasting counsel" (M.F. Knutson, I Write to You Fathers, p. 82).

As God's forgiveness comes to peni-tent Christian fathers, mothers, and children we all live in our Baptisms. God's grace comes to our penitent hearts in Word and Sacrament. Where we fail as Christian fathers and chil-dren, there is forgiveness and hope in the Gospel. And by the grace of that Gospel we are declared righteous fa-thers, and righteous children. And that righteousness enables us to remain chil-dren of the heavenly Father now and for eternity.

Have a Happy and Blessed Father's Day.

L.Y.F.E. (Live Your Faith Every day)

Youth group wraps up another year of activity.

In the month of May, our high-light was doing a car wash with proceeds going to Stacey Nelson. It was a wonderful outpouring of love and support as not only the current youth group, but other students and parents showed up to scrub, wash, and vacuum cars.

Some people came to get their car washed and stayed to wash others. Some came, gave dona-tions, and didn’t even have their car washed!

The group raised $1,100.00 for Stacey. They were excited to deliver it to her, which they did the last Sunday evening of youth group.

We wish blessings to all who worked and shared and to Stacey and her family.

Coming Up

Youth will be going to Valley Fair on Friday, June 1, leaving Trinity west parking lot at 9:00 a.m. Bring money to cover the cost of your ticket and treats.

We can use drivers. If interested, contact Deb Malmanger, 330-0786, or Vivian Hagre, 685-2606.

Deb Malmanger is planning a lock-in for later in the summer. Watch for further information. Chaperones will be needed, as well as snacks, in order for this to happen.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

Thank you to Deb Malmanger, all the Youth and their parents who hosted the Mother’s Day Event retirement party for Vivian Hagre at the Morristown park.

Thanks also for the delicious cake and gift card.

I just want to thank our youth so much for their commitment to the youth group. They have been such a great group to work with. They really did accom-plish a lot from fundraisers, to community service, and mission trips. They also enjoyed other fun activities such as bowling, kickball tournament, super bowl party, lock-ins, canoeing, snow tubing, and swimming at Camp Omega.

I want to thank Deb Malmanger for her support in putting to-gether the mission trips and hosting lock-ins, and the Super Bowl party, also for e-mailing out announcements to the kids and parents.

I truly enjoyed working with the youth and will miss seeing them each week. We still need some-one to step in and continue with the kids who are wanting to stay

with the youth group. This could be a co-leadership role for two to work together and serve the youth. It is nice to have someone to bounce ideas off of and for support.

Pray about it; it might just be for you!

Sincerely,

Vivian Hagre

Where Families Connect at Trinity

Passing on the Faith to our childrenPassing on the Faith to our childrenPassing on the Faith to our childrenPassing on the Faith to our children

Three families took part in the First Bible blessing event on May 13. The children received their own Bibles and then with the help of parents and grandparents, they learned to find their favorite Bible passages and mark them in their Bibles. It was a blessing to see these families pass on their legacy of faith to their children in this special event.

Other classes will be offered again in the fall and throughout the school year.

Sunday School

The Sunday School year concluded on May 20. The students received their attendance awards in the gym.

A big thank you to our teachers: Michele Reistad, Linda Rhode, Billie Jo Weeg, Jon Rhode, Donna Schultz, Loreen Schultz, Carol Vikla, Sheila Kreger and also to our support staff of help-ers: Nolan Vikla, Lisa Bailey, Miranda Reistad, Tammy Schwichtenberg, Luke Simonson, Lisa Simonson, Abby Malmanger, Elle Malmanger, Kris Sellentine for the dramas and Joann Cross for her help with supplies each week. Our offerings for the quarter will be sent to “Giving Gar-dens” – Hearts for Jesus project from the Wheatridge foundation.

In August there will be a few Sunday School sessions offered for all age groups. It will be held at 9:15-10:15 in the music room. Watch for more info and dates in future newsletters and bulletins.

SCHOLARSHIP FUND FOR FARIBAULT LUTHERAN STUDENTS

WHO ARE MEMBERS OF TRINITY

Last year, through a generous dona-tion by the Trinity Pie Makers, a Schol-arship Fund was established at Trinity for families of students who attend Fari-bault Lutheran School and are members of our Trinity family.

FLS has a long-established scholarship fund called “The Angel Fund” which helps parents of any student who at-tends FLS. This fund is distributed ac-cording to financial need.

The Trinity Scholarship Fund is money made available only to families of Trinity members. Peace Lutheran

Church also has a similar scholarship fund.

Families who make the decision to have their children attend Faribault Lu-theran School know that their children will receive a top-quality academic edu-cation that is Christ centered in every activity and lesson. This year the tuition at FLS had to be raised to meet higher costs of operation and so now, more than ever, we need to help.

First of all, pray for Faribault Lu-theran School, for the students, the staff and the program of Christ centered edu-

cation taught there. Pray for the families that are making the financial sacrifice to provide this education for their chil-dren. Finally, please consider donating to the Scholarship Fund established at Trinity, for FLS students who are mem-bers of Trinity. It is our joy and privi-lege as members of the family to help and support each other in all things.

Donations may be sent to the church office or put in the offering plate. Please make sure that checks are made payable to Trinity Lutheran Church with “Trin-ity Scholarship Fund” on the memo line.

As we read God's Word this month take note of how many times God the Father's name is mentioned. Take note also of the many times that Scripture manifests the 3 Persons of the Holy Trinity. We believe in One God Who exists in Three Persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Triune God is the only True God. We can be saved from our sins only by faith in Him. May the Holy Spirit keep all of us in the faith to life everlasting.

Note also in the Bible readings for this month examples of godly fathers living their faith in God.

HERITAGE DAYS COMMUNITY LUNCHEON

Trinity will once again host a free luncheon for members of the Fari-bault community on Friday, June 15, from 11:00am-1:00pm during the Faribault Heritage Days Cele-bration.

We thank Pam Kirkpatrick for coordinating the 2012 Trinity Luncheon! We still have a need for volunteers to assist her with

set up, food prep, greeting, serv-ing, providing desserts, clean up, and miscellaneous other tasks.

The One God in Whom we believe exists in three Persons - God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (Numbers 6:22-27; Matthew 28:18-20; 2 Corinthians 13:14). The Feast of the Holy Trinity is a celebration of this doctrinal truth. As Christi-tians we confess our faith in the One True God using the words of the three ecumenical creeds - the Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed. Traditionally the Christian Church confesses the Athanasian Creed on Trinity Sunday. The Feast of the Holy Trinity is the first Sunday in the Pentecost Season.

The Pentecost Season (formerly called the Trinity Season) is named after the Festival of Pentecost which is also described as the birth date for the Holy Christian Church. This Church Year the Festival of Pentecost fell on May 27th. At the first Pentecost, God's Holy Spirit was poured out in His fullness on the Church (Acts 2:1-41). The Pentecost Season is the longest season in the Christian Church Year. It can be as short as 22 weeks or as long as 27 weeks. The Pentecost Season begins with the Festival of the Holy Trin-ity and continues to the last Sunday in the Christian Church Year. This year the Festival of the Holy Trinity falls on Sunday, June 3rd.

The Pentecost Season is known as the "non-festival" half of the Church Year because there are few festivals during this part of the Church Year. Aside from the various saints days the only festivals in this part of the Church Year are the Festival of St. Michael and All Angels (September 29th), the Festival of the Reformation (October 31st), and All Saints Day (November 1st).

The emphasis of the Pentecost Season is on living our lives as Christians in response to the salvation our Triune God gives us. It is the Holy Spirit Who moves us to godly sanctified living. The Pentecost Season's emphasis on sanctified living is the Christian Church's response to the justifying work of Christ which is seen in the "festival" half of the Church Year. It is only God's grace in Christ which enables us to live lives filled with the good works God desires we should do (Ephesians 2:8-10).

It is God's grace in Christ which saves us. Our good works are the fruits of that faith, and the evidence that Christ's salvation has taken root in our lives. Our good works also thank God for His free gift of salvation. During this Pentecost Season may God strengthen our Christian faith that the fruits of faith abound in our lives.

“Rest is not idleness,” said John Lubbock, “and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listen-ing to the murmur of water or watching the clouds float across the sky is hardly a waste of time.” Most of us need more, not less, rest built into our daily routine. Only when we are quiet can we hear God’s whisper.

Summer is a great time to find a peaceful, outdoor spot to read, rest and pray - even if only for a few minutes. God is eagerly waiting for us to make space for him. ~The NEWSLETTER Newsletter

PEACE & TRINITY

LUTHERAN CHURCHES

May 17th, 2012 was one of the most important, yet least celebrated festivals in the Christian Church Year - the Festival of the Ascension. The reason that this festival is often one of the least celebrated is because Ascension Day always falls 40 days after Easter. Thus it always falls on a Thursday. Because the festival occurs during the week, some congregations fail to have any ob-servance of Ascension Day. Other congregations like Trinity this year move the festival to the following Sunday so that parish-ioners might celebrate it more easily.

Why is the Festival of the Ascension so important? It celebrates the risen living Christ's coronation as the King of kings and Lord of lords (Revelation 17:14; 19:16). At the Ascension Christ was crowned as Lord of all and rules everything since "all power in heaven and on earth" has been given to Him (Matthew 28:18).

From the time of the Incarnation and birth of Christ, His divine and human natures have been permanently bound together. What happens to the one nature happens to the other. Hence, Christ with both His divine and human natures has ascended to "the right hand of the Father" as we confess in the Nicene Creed. This "right hand of God the Father" is not a physical place, but is a position of power as Christ Himself noted, "all power in heaven and on earth has been given to Me" (Matthew 28:18). Christ now fills all things with both His divine and human natures (Ephesians 1:23; 4:10). Christ is present everywhere as He promised, even though He is invisible to the human eye.

Christ promised His presence with us many times saying, "Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world" (Matthew 28:20). Christ also promised "where 2 or 3 are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them" (Matthew 18:20). And again Christ promised His presence with us in the Sacrament of the Altar for there He gives us His true Body and Blood in, with, and under the bread and wine that we might be sure that He is truly present with us (Matthew 26:26-28).

The Ascension of Christ is a great comfort to the embattled Christian. Though assaulted by the devil, though attacked by the sinful world, though assailed by our own sinful human nature, we are assured that God has not left us alone in that spiritual fight. Christ is present with us as He promised. He is with us in the midst of our woes and joys even though we cannot see Him. His Word, the Sacraments, and the gift of the Holy Spirit all assure us that Christ is with us as He promised. At the end of time, He shall appear again for all eyes to see. Then He will judge the living and the dead, and take all believers to live with Him in heaven's glory (Matt. 24:29-31; 25:31-46). There we shall be privileged to see Him face to face for all eternity.

Managing God’s Gifts in 2012 is this year’s stewardship theme. Our faith life in action can be accomplished by managing God’s gifts to us.

Emphasis during the month of June is on “Facilities Stewardship”( lawn care, flower/planter care, cleaning).

If you are interested in sharing your time, talent, skills in one or all of these areas, please contact Bill Kirkpatrick, Business Manager, 331-6579.

Trio con Brio biography... It all began in 2001, when Jan Holmgren got the idea of putting together a trio con-sisting of one flute, one oboe and a piano. They should play music that would be ar-ranged only for this constallation and the music genre should be very wide and con-nected to s specific type of music. Trio con Brio was born, and today the trio consists of Carina Cederwall - flute, Jan Holmgren - oboe/English horn, and Stig Andersson - piano/arrangements. The members of Trio con Brio were educated at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, Sweden, and whose repertoire goes from classical music to well known hymns via jazz, musicals and film music. This is the third time touring in the US. Trio con Brio will play music by Scandinavian composers, folk music and well known hymns such as "How Great Thou Art", "Day by Day", and "Beautiful Savior", all composed and/or arranged especially for Trio con Brio.

Every month I attend the Lay Leader-ship Board meeting to update them on financial matters. At the last meeting, just last week, I had the pleasure for the second month in a row to tell them that we are in the black financially; that we are up to par with our expenses and budget and that we actually have zero overdue bills pending. This Easter is when we broke through the barrier and went from being in the red into the black and it was the first time since March of 2011 that we have been in that good shape. Thank you all and thank God for all of your good stewardship and dedication to our Lord and our church.

Now what we need to do is to con-tinue this trend throughout the summer and fall. This would be a good time for you to consider the option of on-line

The Seventy-sixth Convention of the Minnesota South District is scheduled to meet June 14-16, at Concordia University, St. Paul. The Convention theme is “Free and Focused,” based on 1 Corinthians 9:19-23. Speak-ing of his own approach to mission work, St. Paul says, I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. I may share with them in its blessings.

As God’s chosen and called people, we are free from sin and the restraints of the law in order that we may focus on God’s mission, which is to reconcile and free those who are yet enslaved and burdened by sin and the law. In the MNS District, our focus is on those in our communities who are not yet in a saving relation-ship with Jesus Christ. Our mission as individual Chris-tians and Christian congregations is to connect them to Jesus in ways that are meaningful to them, in their own contexts.

The Convention is intended to provide opportuni-ties to celebrate God’s mission and our partnership in it. Delegates, representing their congregations, will be inspired, challenged, and encouraged in our mission together, and focused on our work together in part-nership with the God who has freed and focused us, so that by all means we may save some.

Information regarding the Convention may be found on the District website, mns.lcms.org.

donations to Trinity as another option for your contributions. The advantage is that such donations can be done while you are away from home (if you are gone on vacation or a trip). Plus auto-matic donations are out of worry, out of mind. On-line donations can be done in two ways: 1.) through automatic trans-fer (ACH) which you can set up through our church office or 2.) through Bill Pay On-line such as you may already use to pay bills on your computer. Many peo-ple are already doing this for their church donations. In fact, I was just looking recently at a Sunday bulletin for Divine Mercy Catholic Church and they show that over the first two weeks of April, about 16% of their contributions were made by automatic (ACH) trans-fer. They have been using automatic transfer like this for many years.

Even though automatic ACH transfers are convenient and consistent, you are in control in that you can change the amount or cancel anytime you wish just by contacting the church office. We already have some families taking advan-tage of automatic transfer but it is a small percentage. Especially during the summer when you may be gone at times, I would encourage you to con-sider automatic transfer or Bill Pay as a way to help us stay in the black through-out the summer and through to the end of the year. Please contact the church office or myself to sign up or for any questions you may have.

GOD’S DESIGN FOR MARRIAGE

“Marriage is a lifelong union of one man and one woman by mutual consent unto one flesh. It was instituted by God in the Garden of Eden, when God specifically created Eve for Adam (Gen. 2:18-24). Polygamy, plurality of wives, is contrary to God’s arrangement. ‘Let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own hus-band’ (I Cor. 7:12). In the sight of man, matrimony be-gins with the wedding ceremony. Marriage is preceded by a rightful betrothal or engagement, which consists in the mutual promise and public declaration to be husband and wife. We have an example in Mary and Joseph (Matt. 1:18-25). Cf. Deut. 22;23, 24. Matrimony is a lifelong union,; it is dissolved by death of either the hus-band or the wife (Rom 7:2) and is not continued in heaven (Matt.22:30). A widow or a widower may marry again. (Rom. 7:3)”
