Learning to read can open many doors. It is empowering. Our school teaches reading from Prep Year 6. We differentiate our teaching to match it to each student’s need. The table below, based on the research by Nagy and Herman 1987, highlights the importance of reading for 20 minutes a night on a regular basis. You can help as well. All it takes is 20 minutes a night! Please spare the time to either read to your child, with your child or listen to your child read to you. Reading is no different to learning a sport, it takes time and practise and at first it can be hard. As a school we will teach children strategies required when reading. We ask parents and caregivers to provide an opportunity for your child to regularly practise these strategies. On Thursday 18 th June, our P&C will be holding a fun fundraiser. All students can come dressed as an ‘Essential Worker’. I refer you to the P&C flyer for full details below. Our P&C fundraising events have been hard hit by the current health crisis so I encourage all families to participate if possible. Our wonderful P&C always ensure the proceeds go back to our school and this money benefits our students. The new Prep playground is an example of what is possible if we all work together. Our school received news that a full school review will take place on Monday 13 July Wednesday 15 July. In previous newsletters I have outlined what this involves. The reviewers may wish to contact some of our parents and caregivers to hear your thoughts. I welcome you to contribute if the opportunity arises. Lastly, report cards will be emailed on Thursday 25 June, 2020. If the school doesn’t have your current email address you won’t receive your child’s report. If this is the case, p lease email the school via [email protected] at your earliest convenience. Thanking you for your support. Ange Padgett

Messages from Deputy Principal (Yr 4, Yr 5 & Yr 6) - Mrs Waldron

This week I have continued my visits to classrooms each day and would like to acknowledge the following students for their confidence in sharing with their peers whilst unpacking the language features of news articles. Tiger (6E), Charlie (6D), Konnor (6B), Hayden (6B) and Phoenix (6B). I was also very impressed with Emmanuel (5E) for his explanation of extended multiplication facts. In Year 4, Charlotte (4D) won the timetables game against me and Zara was the ‘shoot-out’ timetables champion on Monday. Great work teams and keep smiling.

Student Accident Insurance

Some school activities and physical education, particularly contact sports, carry inherent risks of injury. Parents are advised that the Department of Education and Training does not have Student Accident Insurance cover for students. If your child is injured at school as a result of an accident or incident, all costs associated with the injury, including medical costs, are the responsibility of the child, parent or caregiver. Some incidental medical costs may be covered by Medicare. If parents have private health insurance, some costs may also be covered through the private health insurance. Any other costs would be borne by the parents. Student Accident Insurance is an insurance policy that pays certain benefits in certain circumstances should your child have an accident. It is a personal decision for parents as to the types and levels of private insurance they arrange to cover their child for any accidental injury that may occur. Parents should contact their insurer or an approved Australian insurance broker for more information about student personal accident insurance cover for their child.
