PARENT FEEDBACK

Recently we surveyed parents about their opinions on our school including their

thoughts about:

communication between school staff and parents;

how well the school supports student learning and behaviour;

relationship between the school and the local community;

school leadership and;

level of parent satisfaction.

We also surveyed staff and Year 3 – 6 students to obtain their thoughts about

the above points. These surveys provide valuable information about what we

are currently doing well and what we could further improve on. We will provide

a summary of the survey data to the School Board and school community when

it becomes available.

Based on feedback received so far we will be working in consultation with the

P&C and School Board to develop a Parent Communication Charter which will

clearly outline agreed expectations for parents and school staff in our effort to

further improve the quality of home/school communication. Thank you to

everyone who took the time to complete the survey. We had the highest

response rate ever!

If you have any concerns regarding your child please remember to make an

“It is a good school with different students from all

walks of life and the teachers are constantly doing an

incredible job when it comes to the welfare of my

child”.

“My kids feel safe and have fun learning.”

“School staff are very proactive and supports everyone

without any delay. Principal and teachers are very

cooperative and address any issue well within time

limits.”

PROTECTIVE BEHAVIOURS PARENT RESOURCE

Although every child has the right to feel safe at all

times, each year thousands of children across Australia

experience abuse. It is estimated that 1 in 4 girls and

1 in 7 boys will be subject to some form of unwanted

sexual activity before the age of 18 (Australian

Institute of Criminology, 1993).

At Balga Primary School we have implemented a

protective behaviours program from Kindy to Year 6

and it is based on two themes:

We all have the right to feel safe at all times.

We can talk with someone about anything, no

matter what it is.

By sharing protective behaviours with your child, you

will be helping to develop lifelong skills of

assertiveness, self-confidence, problem solving,

communication, resilience and help seeking.

The Department of Education has a Protective

Behaviours Parent Resource, where you will find

activities and discussions presented in a fun, child-

friendly way, designed not to frighten children but

inform them of some of the vital skills of personal

safety. If you would like a copy of this handbook,

please see Kelly or Tegan in the front office.

Reading is your SUPERPOWER!

We have had an incredible response from lots of

students who have been consistent readers and building

their superpower. These students have been achieving

milestones throughout the year and those who reach

200 Days of Reading will be joining us at the movies

towards the end of term 4!

Book week was another success with many students

dressed up as their favourite book characters, an

awesome assembly from Room 3 and a visit from

Hermione.

Parent Teacher Meetings

Thank you to all parents and guardians who took the

time to meet with your child’s teacher/s to discuss

their progress. The amount of parents we have

involved is exceptional and the feedback we receive

from parents and teachers shows us how important it

is. Another thank you to all parents who completed

the school survey. Your feedback helps us reflect and

grow as a school and a community.

Father’s Day – activities, incursion and stall

The Kindy and Pre-primary classes held a special

father’s day activity morning. The students in Room 4,

7 and 8 constructed father’s day gifts and the P&C ran

another successful father’s day stall. Happy belated

Father’s Day to all the father figures out there!

Environment Day

Environment day was such a success, we’re already

talking about what we can do for next year! Check out

of Stirling and Sage.

Danielle Palmer – BPS Phys Ed Teacher

Hi All,

This is an exciting and busy term for Physical Education!

Recently we have been privileged enough at Balga Primary to have Isaac Birir coaching our students through running, jumping and throwing techniques. Isaac has travelled the world competing in athletics and currently holds the record for the Melbourne Half Marathon amongst other records. Along with myself, we taught the students keys to reach success in their events and got in lots of practice.

Today at the Pre Carnival we watched on as the students showed us the skills they have been practicing in long jump, throws, 200m and 400m. The competition has been very tight and myself and the other teachers are looking forward to seeing what the students can achieve on Friday at the faction carnival.

Don’t forget to wear your faction colors and see you all there!

Miss Palmer
