I love the first day back after a break and it was wonderful to see students returning to school

on Monday morning. The College once again feels alive and vibrant. Admittedly, not all students

looked like they bounced out of bed ready to start their first day back, but Mondays can have that

affect on you! Some though, literally skipped into school, while others were just happy to be back.

I am excited that we have a whole new semester in front of us, overflowing with potential and

opportunity. This new semester provides a new beginning in which we have the opportunity to

start afresh and tackle things differently if we need to or want to.

Lamentations 3:22-23 reminds and encourages us that:

I get great encouragement knowing that, not only is the beginning of a new semester a new start,

but so is each and every day.

My prayer for our community this semester is that we will, together, grab hold of the promise that

God’s mercy never comes to an end and ‘Carpe Diem’ – Seize the Day. That we will take hold of

the many opportunities that will be presented and use them to learn and grow together. That the

things that may have held us back, will not continue to do so this semester and that we can find

ways to persist and overcome.

Finally, as is the way of Darwin, there were a number of new faces walking into the College for

the first time this week. I would like to welcome all our new families to the College and I hope that

you will slip into a new groove smoothly and settle quickly. Please know that we are keen to help,

so don’t hesitate to let us know if you need anything. There are also a few families returning to us

after some time away – welcome home, it is great to have you back with us!

Blessings,

Mr Andrew Manning - Principal

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end;

they are new every morning.”

Year 10 Structured Work Placement

Towards the end of Term 2, Year 10 students had the opportunity to participate in the annual week-long work experience program. The purpose of this program is to help students discover their strengths and interests for making decisions about their future pathway. It was the students’ responsibility to find and organise a suitable work experience that coincided with their interests and abilities. The different types of work experiences included: army/defence, aqua marine, retail, Crocodylus Wildlife Park, construction, fishing industry, ABC Radio, automotive, grounds maintenance, health care, café work, education, aviation and many more.

The week proved to be a massive success and we received many positive feedback forms from employers including:

“James conducted himself as one of the staff, he was on time and keen to undertake any mechanical tasks asked of him.”

“Cameron was one of the best work experience kids we have had here at A-mart Sports.”

“It was a pleasure having Amber work with us last week; she is welcome back anytime.”

When asked about their experience, one of the students said:

“It was an insightful week; amazing to see how the whole ecosystem works together.” - Rory Bonshor

Imaginarium News

We hope you all had a great mid-year break! Our Term 3 theme in the Library is ‘Supers’. We will be discussing, imagining and creating stories with superhero characters. Just a reminder that Primary and Middle School students can borrow up to 2 fiction, 2 non-fiction and 2 AR readers at a time. Senior students may borrow 4 fiction and 4 non-fiction texts. Students have two weeks in which to read them. They then have the option of returning or re-borrowing them.

Primary students up to Year 4 need to bring a Library bag with them if they wish to borrow.

Primary Library lessons are on the following days:

We pray that they have a great term reading!

2017 Woolworths Earn & Learn Program

MCC is participating in the 2017 Woolworths Earn & Learn program which started this week. Anyone from our College community who shops at Woolworths can collect stickers and bring them to school. The rewards are a choice of educational equipment and resources from Modern Teaching Aids - so let’s start collecting for the benefit of our students!

It’s Time To Jump!

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As you are already aware our school is participating in the Heart Foundation Jump Rope for Heart program and we would love your support!

Our BIG jump off day is this term, on Friday 18th of August, where each class will spend time skipping at different stations and students will have the opportunity to showcase skills discovered along the way! Our emphasis is on promoting health awareness across the school and the fundraising component is completely optional. There will be some workshops for a few of our students soon and they will then pass this knowledge on for everyone else to enjoy.

If you choose to fundraise there are two options available and funds are due back by 23/8/2017. A letter was handed out last term with all the information.

Option 1: Collect funds yourself using the sponsorship form handed out already

Option 2: Online

How to register your child:

Visit: www.jumprope.org.au and click on REGISTER

A secure fundraising page will be created as soon as you register, and then you are encouraged to share this link with as many people as possible. This is an easy, safe way for your child to monitor their progress, receive bonus prizes and even receive sponsorship from family and friends who are further afield.

We are hoping that our students enjoy some skipping fun over the next few weeks.

Please contact us if you have any questions and keep on JUMPING!
