Note from Administration Ms. Johnson, Principal & Mrs. Wong, Assistant Principal Hello Marguerita Family, It’s been a busy and exciting 1st Trimester, and we reflect on it with gratitude for our entire Marguerita community. Thank you for your continued support! Report cards will be sent home on Friday, Nov. 8. On October 17th, our students and staff practiced a school-wide earthquake response drill- The Great Shake Out. We pretended an earthquake was happening and teachers led students to practice the drop, cover and hold drill and then proceeded to evacuate outside. Search and rescue teams, made up of staff, deployed throughout the campus and found surprise “fake injured” staff and students. All staff and students followed safety protocol successfully during the drill. Every month we practice at least one emergency drill such as a fire or a lockdown drill. Additionally, many of our staff attended the annual Critical Incident Training, in partnership with AUSD and the Alhambra Police Department, where we practice safety protocol in the event of an active shooter on campus. The Playworks program has started at Marguerita. The program focuses on training adults and students to create a fun, safe playground through organized games and positive group management strategies. A component of this strategy is to train 15 students in grades 4th-5th as Junior Coaches, who will become leaders during recess. They will train in leadership activities, games, and team building by Coach Kwan Buchanan. Coach Kwan was at Marguerita the week of October 21st training the Junior Coaches, meeting with classes, and teaching them new games for the first time this year.

Tips for staying healthy during Thanksgiving:

1. Get some exercise in before and after meals. 2. Don't forget to eat breakfast, so you aren't stuffed after one big meal. 3. Enjoy time with family and friends. 4. Skip a second plate; save room for dessert!

GATEWAY to Success (GTS) From our Intervention Advisor, Mr. Jimenez:

Gateway to Success is offering a Free enrichment program for 6th-8th students and their parents called Learning To Breathe, a research-based mindfulness program for adolescents. For students, groups will meet once a week (50 min) for 8 weeks starting in Jan 2020. The program will benefit students who experience stress or worry, want to learn skills to help them stay healthier, or improve their ability to concentrate. See Mr. Jimenez to sign up and learn more about mindfulness. November 5th: PBIS Poster Contest Winners announced & Best Attendance Class Winners! November 7th: Perfect Attendance Banner Awards and Rocky photo opp. Poster Contest Recognition and Prizes during R.O.C.K. Star Assembly. November 12th: Kaiser Permanente Educational Theatre Presents..."It's Stop Time." For grades 3-5 designed to complement conflict management and violence prevention efforts in schools and communities.

A.S.B. News Our November Spirit Day will coincide with the Jog-A-Thon and be a Sports Themed Day on 11/8/19. Students can wear a jog-a-thon shirt, a favorite sports t-shirt or jersey, or even come in uniform for a team that they play for.

Nota de la Administración Sra. Johnson, Principal y Sra. Wong, Asistente principal Hola Familia Margarita, Ha sido un primer trimestre ocupado y emocionante, y reflexionamos con gratitud por toda nuestra comunidad de Marguerita. ¡Gracias por su apoyo continuado! Las boletas de calificaciones se enviarán a casa el viernes 8 de noviembre. El 17 de octubre, nuestros estudiantes y el personal practicaron un simulacro de respuesta a terremotos en toda la escuela: El Gran Batido. Fingimos que estaba ocurriendo un terremoto, los maestros y estudiantes practicaron la caída, tapar y sostener el simulacro y luego procedieron a evacuar afuera. Equipos de búsqueda y rescate, compuestos por personal, estaban en partes de la escuela, encontraron personal y estudiantes de sorpresa "heridos falsos". Todo el personal y los estudiantes siguieron el protocolo de seguridad con éxito durante el simulacro. Cada mese practicamos al menos un simulacro de emergencia, como un incendio o un simulacro taladro de cierre. Además, un gran parte de nuestro personal asistió a la capacitación anual sobre incidentes críticos, en asociación con AUSD y el Departamento de Policía de Alhambra, donde practicamos el protocolo de seguridad en caso de un tirador activo en la escuela. El programa Playworks ha comenzado en Marguerita. El programa se enfoca en capacitar a adultos y estudiantes para crear juegos divertidos, seguros organizados y estrategias positivas de manejo grupal. Un componente de esta estrategia es capacitar a 15 estudiantes en grados 4º y 5º como entrenadores juniores, quienes se convertirán en líderes durante el recreo. Ellos entrenarán en actividades de liderazgo, juegos y trabajo en equipo por el entrenador Kwan Buchanan. El entrenador Kwan estuvo en Marguerita la semana del 21 de octubre entrenando a los entrenadores junior, reuniéndose con clases y

enseñándoles nuevos juegos por primera vez este año.

nuestro personal, estudiantes, PTA y padres voluntarios!

PUERTA AL ÉXITO (GTS) De nuestro Asesor de Intervención, Sr. Jiménez: Puerto de entrada al éxito está ofreciendo un programa de enriquecimiento gratuito para estudiantes de 6º a 8º grado y sus padres, se llama Aprender a respirar, un programa de atención plena basado en la investigación para adolescentes. Para los estudiantes, los grupos se reunirán una vez por semana (50 min) durante 8 semanas comenzando enero de 2020. El programa beneficiará a los estudiantes que experimentan estrés o preocupación, desean aprender habilidades para ayudarlos a mantenerse saludables o mejorar su capacidad de concentración. Vea al Sr. Jiménez para registrarse y aprender más sobre la atención plena. 5 de noviembre: ¡Se anuncian los ganadores del concurso de pósters de PBIS y ganadores de la clase de mejor asistencia! 7 de noviembre: Bandera de asistencia perfecta Premios y fotografía de Rocky. Reconocimiento del concurso de carteles y premios durante Asamblea de estrella. R.O.C.K 12 de noviembre: Teatro educativo Kaiser Permanente presenta..." Es Hora de Parar." Para los grados 3-5 diseñados para complementar los esfuerzos de manejo de conflictos y prevención de

violencia en escuelas y comunidades.

這是一個既忙碌又興奮的第一學期我們對整個

Marguerita社區深表謝意。感謝您一如既往的支持! 第

一學期的成績單將於11月8日(星期五) 派發回家。

10月17日, 我們的學生和教職員工在全校範圍內進

行了地震演習 - The Great Shake Out。我們假裝地震發

生了, 老師帶領學生練習蹲下、掩護、守侯，然後疏散

到室外。 由員工組成的搜索和救援團隊在整個校園內

部署，尋找及拯救扮演受傷員工和學生。在演習期間，

所有教職員工和學生都成功遵守了安全規程。我們每個

月至少進行一次應急演習，例如消防演習或封鎖演習。

此外，我們的許多工作人員與AUSD和阿罕布拉警察局

合作參加了年度危急事件培訓，在校園中有活躍的槍手

的情況下，我們在其中練習安全規程。

Playworks計劃已在Marguerita開始。該計劃重點培

訓成年人和學生，通過有組織的遊戲和積極的小組管理

策略創建一個有趣，安全的遊樂場。該策略的組成部分

是訓練15名4-5年級的學生作為初級教練，他們將在課

間休息期間成為領導者。Kwan Buchanan教練將對他

們進行領導力活動，遊戲和團隊建設方面的培訓.

Kwan教練於10月21 Marguerita 進行培訓少年教練，班

級聚會和今年第一次為他們傳授新遊戲。
