Turkish Festival a hit once again

Ottawa delights at Turkish Festival

The Ottawa Turkish Festival is increasingly becoming an attractive outdoor event for the general public to enjoy Turkish hospitality in Ottawa. The festival organized by the Canadian Turkish Heritage Foundation (CTHF), a non-profit organization whose primary goal is to help bring communities together to promote cooperation, partnership and community service.

In the past four years, not only did the Festival improve and expanded, but it also brought together the Turkish Canadian community in the Ottawa to join forces to make the event bigger and better. The Festival has been a community based exercise. We have delightfully observed and enjoyed community support in all areas of the preparation process from fundraising efforts to recruiting food and retail vendors, to signing up artists and performers.

Every aspect of Turkish Culture was embraced. Visitors had the opportunity to taste Turkish cuisine such as donair, shish kebab, baklava, Turkish pancake (gozleme) and so much more at the popular food stands.The Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s Youth Folk Dance and Music Ensemble created a vivacious atmosphere through their fascinating performances during the festival. The demonstration of our traditional arts and crafts, marbling, calligraphy and whirling dervishes were featured through illustrations of Turkish artists’ talents.

On behalf of CTHF and the Ottawa Turkish Community we would like to thank all our volunteers and sponsors, such as Canadian Heritage, City of Ottawa, Ottawa Police, CTV and Ottawa Festivals The Ottawa Turkish Festival was held on July 23 through to 24, 2011 at Confederation Park. It was a great success with all of your contributions.
