Newsletter 9
The last couple of months have been an adjustment for many as we adapt to our life during the
current pandemic. Many of our usual meeting activities have been stopped and workshops
cancelled, but we artists are creative souls and are drawing on our creativity to find new ways
to work, learn and reach our goals.
This newsletter is no exception. …...

Coffeebreak Brainteasers
For the young and young at heart. Hope you enjoy this newsletter’s watercolour related activities.
Rose Butler has created a ‘Spot the Difference’ for us this month. How many differences can
you find between these two pictures?
Guess what I am...
● I am something we artists rely on when painting.
● About 71 percent of the Earth's surface is covered in it.
● It makes up about 66 percent of the human body.
● It regulates the Earth’s temperature. ● It makes our paint colours flow across our paper.

An Artist’s Guide
to Coping During the COVID Pandemic Artists have been using their creative skills to adapt to our life during lockdown and social distancing.
We have been using Art to brighten our days:
JUST LIKE MAGIC
DELIGHTFULLY TURQUOISE
I’VE GOT A CRUSH ON YOU
Renee Lippa started creating miniature
botanical series putting a spotlight on some
of the lovely delights she has showing up in
her garden every spring.

We have social distancing down to a fine art when we paint plein air:
Ron Murdoch’s en plein air adventure!
We have been using our art to help cheer other people up and say thank you:
Rose Butler created these small paintings to be mailed out to essential workers to thank
them for their hard work.
Patricia Windsor created a watercolour art card to cheer up her fellow artist friends.
9
We are using our Art to escape the stress:
Debra Bannister says, “ One of my favorite places to escape to is the beach. Sometimes I even find some beach treasure has rolled in
overnight.”
Here is a Sneak Peek at Our Members’ Work Spaces where some of this creativity is happening:
We have taken working from home to a fine art, quite literally.
Shilpi Suneja’s creative corner.
Nancy Newman’s tidy painting table.

Renee Lippa’s cozy home studio.
Ona Kingdon in her kitchen oasis.
Gord Jones’s bright and inviting studio.
Atanur’s spacious studio.
Coral Ye Chen’s light filled studio
A house is never lonely where a painting studio awaits. In painting, there is truth. Art expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent.
Well done everyone! Stay safe and stay well!

ONLINE Workshop Opportunity
Ona Kingdon is offering the following ONLINE workshop September 7th-13th 2020:
The Theme of the Workshop is ‘Eggstreme Textures’.
It’s a fun, imaginative, typically Ona style workshop where you get to explore ways to create a whole host of different textures in transparent watercolour and have a LOT of fun along the way.
So how will it work?
It doesn’t matter where in Canada, or indeed the world, you live. Ona will set up and invite participating artists to a series of Zoom conference video calls. She has also prepared a paint along video outlining the painting she will be working on in the workshop, which you can use at home to create your own imaginative painting.
Students will meet with Ona via zoom 3-4 times over the course of 1 week which will give them plenty of time in between these sessions to work on their own painting or do any homework set.
Ona will also make herself available via email between times so if you have any burning questions or just want to show her your progress, you can send her a jpg of your work in progress and she will answer as soon as she is able.
A full materials list will be provided when you sign up, but basically all you need is a computer with some camera function so Ona can see you (most laptops have an inbuilt camera) and a ton of enthusiasm!
