AHH.... October
....the time of year when Ma Nature puts on her gorgeousdisplay of colors in preparation for a little winter R & R.
And, although it is the time of incredible beauty it is also the timeto do a few things yet to your landscape.
1. Plant trees. This is absolutely the best time of year to planttrees, especially evergreens. So if you have been thinking about
it then hesitate no longer. I think that's a HINT!
2. It is also the absolute best time of year to sow grass seed. But, remember, the basic cut off date for doing so is October
15th. So, again, do not hesitate!
3. It is also a good time of year to get down your last applicationof pre-emergent to keep those crazy winter weeds from
sprouting.
and
4. Remember....Do Not prune anything now until after we get acouple of good frosts. You don't want to get any new younggrowth coming out to possibly get nailed by an early freeze.
and
of course
Happy Halloween
Answer....
When it is Not a Sweat Bee....Silly!.... Geez!
And...
All those nagging, nasty little buggers that have been all aroundyour face and body these past couple of months are
NOT Sweat Bees!!
Nope!!!
Even though you may have grown up thinking that and being toldthat all your life.....They are Not!
They are actually....
Hover Flies!
If you will notice in the photo, this little critter has Only 2 wings!
Sweat bees and all bees and wasps have 4 wings!"Two wings fun; Four wings Run".
Hover Flies can NOT sting! They are Flies! Bees and wasps Do Sting!
And...
They can "Hover" like a helicopter, holding their position right infront of your face or other body part. Bees can not do this! Theycan only fly and dart etc. but can not HOLD their position in flight.
And, believe it or not, Hover Flies are actually "beneficial" littlefellows in that they help in pollinating all your pretty flowers, and, mature Hover Flies will even eat those nasty Aphids that harm
your plants.
So, Next year, when you go outside and just want to relax a bitin your favorite spot, and you are suddenly overwhelmed by a
swarm of these aggravating little guys and gals, maybe justgrimace, cuss if you must, sigh, say thank you and move around
instead of sitting still.
And that's another beautiful thing about October is
They will be GONE!!!
Will Someone PLEASE
Adopt Me?????
I am extremely soft, cuddly and Loving, and
I don't bite or scratch when you pick me up.I just PURR and PURR!!!
and
I PROMISE to ALWAYS, ALWAYSLove You and
Be your Companion.....FOREVER! I PROMISE!
and
I heard Ken and Ava even saythat if you give me a good home
they will even pay to send me to getTutored....so you know.... I will be
really, REALLY SMART too!!
