PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Reports cards have gone home, interviews completed and we very much enjoyed the opportunity to

meet with parents and students and share in their educational journey here at W. D. Cuts school.

We were surprised through interviews, how many parents were not aware of DASH. Our webpage

site that outlines each day within each subject what is occurring within the classroom. Parents we

invite you to visit our webpage at wdcuts.spschools.org under Student Resources. This gives our

families an opportunity to discuss what happens at school each day and it also is an opportunity for

parents to make sure their child is keeping g up on their studies.

Volleyball has come to a close. Thanks to all our volleyball coaches, Mr. Witcshen, Mr. Heale,

Mr. Biollo, Mrs. Atkinson, Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Wilkes. Our annual teacher/senior volleyball

game was played last Wednesday. The entire student body watched as the old teacher team once

again defeated the senior boys and girls volley ball teams.

Basketball tryouts for Junior High has begun. Seniors teams have been picked and have their first

tournament this weekend. Regular season games for senior basketball start after Christmas. Thanks

to Mr. Wiens, Mr. Johnson, Mr. Polny and Miss. Burnet who are coaching the senior teams. Mrs.

Rivet and Mr. Babiuk will be coaching the junior teams. Cheerleading, which is an option choice

have been practicing since September and our now gearing up for competition season, beginning in

January. Thanks to Linda Bland, Mrs. Brown-Allnutt and a host of alumni students who have

worked all year with our cheer team.

Renovations are progressing. We now have new change rooms and washrooms by the gym. The

PE teachers now have an office that opens out onto the gym. Thanks to everyone in the local area

as no parking signs were up for a week as eight new modulars were brought into place. Sometime

in January we will have access to the new classrooms.

Christmas is upcoming and our leadership classes have been exceptionally busy getting the school

into the festive and giving mood. As you read through the newsletter you will see all the wonderful

things we are doing. We are a very community minded, caring school.

Enjoy the last few weeks before Christmas.

Mike Tod, Principal

REC Academy One learns a few things over the years. In Rec, we have discovered that November can be cold with little snow. December can be colder ... with less snow. So, planning the fu-ture based on the past, we plan fewer outdoor and more indoor activities for our Rec stu-dents. November saw us experiencing Jiu Jitsu, kick boxing, jumping at Launch Zone, rock climbing, cross fit, yoga and swimming. Our December calendar has the first hint of out-door activity with the potential for cross country skiing and snowshoeing. The skating and downhill activities await us in January and February because … experience has told us that with patience comes snow and ice and the awesomeness of winter. On that note, please keep an eye out for information on our end of February optional mountain trip. Merry Christmas from your Rec Staff!!

HOCKEY ACADEMY

We have now transitioned into our term 2 skills. The student-athletes are beginning to learn more specific skills such as, position specific techniques and skills that do not get worked on during practice with their club teams. Off the ice, the students continue to experience different sports and explore using different muscle groups away from hockey. We look forward to a great term 2!
