DR welcomes national and international visitors
His Excellency Prof. Wajih Owais signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Prof. Muneer Al-Mansoor, from Rome University-Sapienza to enhance scientific
cooperation and cultural understanding among professors, researchers and students in both sides. During the meeting, both sides encouraged joint research projects between JUST and Rome University that allow JUST researchers to integrate in the scientific community of neighboring European countries through mutual exchange of experts from both sides.

Former President of JUST, his Excellency Prof. Wajih Owais and Prof. Muneer Al-Mansoor, Rome University-Sapienza, Prof. Fahmi Abu Al-Rub, Dean of Research, Prof. Tewfik Daradkeh, Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Suhil Kiwan, Director of Energy Centre.
In collaboration with the Technology Transfer Office at JUST, the Technology Transfer Office at Al Urdonia Lil Ebda, represented by Mrs Reham Gharbiyeh, CEO of Al Urdonia Lil Ebda, and Mr. Sharaf Obidat, TT Officer, met with faculty members at Deanship of Research, Prof. Fahmi Abu Al-Rub, Prof. Nezar
Samarah and Dr. Tarek Al-Qasim From Deanship of Research, Dr. Jamal Abu Ashour, Vice Dean of Engineering and Dr. Mazen Kharbutli, Chairman of Com-puter Engineering Department. During the meeting, issues related to current and future collaboration with JUST in regard to business developments and incu-bation of start-up companies at JUST were discussed. Both sides agreed to take the issue further by organizing future activities to JUST researchers and stu-dents. Furthermore, Mrs. Gharbiyeh offered JUST researchers and students free
logistic support and use of the incubator at Al-Hassan Industrial City.
The Deanship of Research at JUST hosted a visit by Dr. Rukhsana Essmaeel from Yemeni Women Association for Science and Technology, Aden. The aim of the meeting was to establish a collaboration between JUST and the Organization for Women in Science for the Developed World (OWSDW). Both sides agreed to
organize three main activities:
1. International advanced training course on “Intellectual Property Rights for Arab region and other developing countries” in 2010.
2. International conference on “Empowering Women in Developing Countries through Better Healthcare and Nutrition” in 2011.
3. Roundtable on “Sustainable Utilization of Energy and Biodiversity Resources” in 2012.

Internal and External Funded Projects at Deanship of Research in 2010
In 2010, a total of 259 projects were funded (242 funded by JUST and 17 projects funded externally). A total amount of 2,229,927 JD was granted to JUST researchers (970,583 JD funded from JUST and 1,259,346 JD from ex-
ternal sources). All faculties received funding from JUST as shown in Fig. 1 and Table 1. Faculty of Pharmacy received 17.2% of the total funds from JUST, while Faculty of Archi-tecture and Design received only1%.
The external funds received in 2010 increased by 136% in comparison with the external funds recieved in 2009. Faculty of Computer & Information Technology received the high-est amount of total external funds (505,000
JD) and the Faculties of Science and Art, Nursing, and Architecture and Design re-ceived no funds from external sources.

Activities of DR
Dean of Research, Prof. Abu Al-Rub participated in the meetings of EMUNI experts to develop Master Programs
for EMUNI. The meeting was held in Ankara-Turkey on November 27-28, 2010. Prof. Abu Al-Rub is the coordina-
tor and Key Expert for the “De-Pollution of the Mediterranean Master's Degree Program”.
In Addition, the Deanship of Research has participated in the following activities at national level:
1. Attending the “Final Conference and Exhibition”, organized by the Support to Research and Technological
Development and Innovation Initiatives and Strategies in Jordan (SRTD Project). Under the Patronage of his
Royal Highness Prince EL Hassan Bin Talal, in Amman, 9th December, 2010.
2. Attending a workshop on “National Strategy for Start-ups and Incubation 2010-2015”, organized by Jordan
Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO), in Amman, 1st August, 2010.
3. Attending the “6th National Tempus Conference”; 15th December, 2010, in Amman.
4. Attending a workshop on “ The Standards and Procedures in Classifications of Jordan Universities” organized
by the Accreditation Commission, Higher Education of Institute; 9th August, 2010, in Amman.
5. Attending a workshop on “Science, Technology and Innovation Statistics” organized by the Higher Council for
Science and Technology and UNESCO Institutes of Statistics, 18-20 October, 2010, in Amman.
The Deanship of Research at JUST has participated in the following activities at national and international lev-

signed the Memorandum of Understanding regarding the Tem-
pus Project “Master on Sustainable development and Renew-
able energy (MANSUR)”. The MoU was signed in Rome Univer-
sity-Sapienza on January 19, 2011. In addition to JUST and
Rome University-Sapienza, the following Universities signed
the MoU: University of Jordan; M'utah University; Durham Uni-
versity; Lund University.

On behalf of former president of JUST, his

Research, Prof. Fahmi Abu-Al-Rub patron-
ized the kick-off meeting of JEWEL project
entitled of “Jordan Europe wide enhanced
research links in ICT” on 24-25 January
2011, in Amman. The project coordinated
by Dr. Abdoul Rjoub, JUST with partners:
Dr Spiros Nickolaidis, Aristotelis University,
and Dr. Svetlana Klessova, Inno company.
The meeting was attended by the Director
of Support Research Fund at the Ministry of
Higher Education and Scientific Research,
Prof. Nasree Al Rabadi and Mr. Estvan Tus-
sal from the European Commission.

International External Funding Secured by JUST Researchers
Prof. Suhil Keewan and Prof. Fahmi Abu Al-Rub, Faculty of Engineering were granted a total of €218,000 from
EU funded program TEMPUS-IV, for a project titled “Master on Sustainable Development and Renewable En-
ergy”.
Dr. Saeb Khreesat, Faculty of Agriculture was granted a total of $9,380 from New Mexico State University, for a
project titled “Diversity, Ecology, and Reclamation Potential of A triplex Entophytes”.
Dr. Muhammed Al-Jarrah, Faculty of Applied Medical Science was granted a total of $122,100 from USAID /
MERC Project, for a project titled . ” Promotion of a physically active lifestyle in populations of teenagers with
cerebral palsy in the Middle East (CP-PALS)”.
Prof. Munir Al-Rusan, Faculty of Agriculture was granted a total of €36,000 EURO from Greek Government, for a
project titled “Development and implementation of an innovative, self sufficient, brackish water treatment pilot
plant for the production of drinking water in communities of Jordan”.
DR congratulates JUST scholars on their achievements
The Scientific Research Committee at JUST has approved the following regulations:
1. Guidelines for research proposals that include research fellowships for graduate students. The fellowships
cover the tuition fees and monthly allowance.
2. The DR announced that Research Centers at JUST can submit research proposals for funding directly to the
Deanship of Research.
3. The research committee at JUST decided in meeting (No. 1) on 13 January 2011 that the Principle Investi-
gator (PI) can’t hire research assistant for graduate student projects unless preapproved from the DR in the
original proposal with sufficient justifications.
New Regulations
Upcoming Events
The Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils, in collabo-
ration with DR, is organizing a symposium entitled "The Role of
Scientific Research in Production of Biogas from Plant and Ani-
mal Wastes" at JUST during 16-17 March 2011. This sympo-
sium will address the potential for biogas production and utili-
zation in the Arab world. With highly experienced researchers
from across the Arab countries, the symposium sessions will
cover more than 20 topics.

National External Funding Rewarded to JUST Researchers
DR congratulates JUST scholars on their achievements
Dr. Anas Al-Nablsee, Faculty of Agriculture and fellow researchers (Dr. Ryad Shaker, Dr. Tareq Al-Usaili, Dr.
Ragheb Al-Tahan, Dr. Muhammed Issam, Dr. Hamza Al-Qadree, Mr. Muhammed Al-Krasha, Dr. Nadia Al-
Sulymanand and Dr. Richael Holley) were granted a total of JD 40,000, from The Higher Council for Science and
Technology, for the project titled “Occurrence of antibiotic-resistant food borne pathogens in effluents of
wastewater treatment plants in Jordan”.
Dr. Suzan Al-Khateeb, Faculty of Dentistry and fellow researchers (Prof. Elham Abu-Alhyja, Dr. Ala Barakat Al-
Batainh and Dr. Imad Farhan Al-Mayta) were granted a total of JD140,000, from Scientific Research Support
Fund, for the project titled “Studies on demineralization of orthodontic white spots measured with QLF”.
Dr. Hashem Kanaan, Faculty of Medicine and fellow researchers (Dr. Anwar Bateeha and Dr. Nabhan Abu-
Haleem) were granted a total of JD 40,000, from The Higher Council for Science and Technology, for the pro-
ject titled “Mental disorders and its associations among primary health care patients in Jordan”.
Dr. Ali Mohammad Shoter, Faculty of Medicine and fellow researchers (Dr. Sukaina Alzyoud and Dr. Ayed Al-
waraikat) were granted a total of JD 64,361, from Scientific Research Support Fund, for the project titled
“Investigating the biological relationship between the infection of T. gondii and violent actions among prisoners
in Jordan”.
Dr. Musa Abu-Urabi, Faculty of Engineering and fellow researcher Dr. Hassan Abdul-Lateef was granted a total
of 8,300 JD, from Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation, for the project titled “Desalination of Hot Water Pro-
duction by Solar Energy”.
Dr. Rami Kharaibh, Faculty of Information Technology and fellow researchers (Dr. Mustafa Zyad , Dr. Yaser
Khamayseh, Dr. Iyad Salheh, Dr. Khalid Ali JadAllah and Dr. Ros Ali) were granted a total of JD 40,000, from
The Higher Council for Science and Technology, for the project titled “I-Surgeon: A Virtual-Training Environ-
ment for Innovative Medical Education/Technology in education”.

Dr. Lauy Fraiwan, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of En-
