Value of the Week– CLEANLINESS

DIANNE WRIGHT CAMPUS PRINCIPAL— MIDDLE SCHOOL

Once again Emerson School will be competing in the Arts, Crafts and

Cookery sections at this year’s Dandenong Show which will be held on

Saturday, 9th and Sunday, 10th November 2019. The students of both

campuses have been working hard to prepare their entries which include:

woodwork, metalwork, pieces of art using different mediums, items of craft

and cookery exhibits. It’s been a busy time for these students of which

many have given up their free time to work on their items, showing

dedication and commitment to accomplishing goals and working towards

deadlines. It has been pleasing to see the passion and pride they have

brought to their projects.

We will continue our studies of the value, Cleanliness, next week.

Cleanliness is demonstrated not only by keeping our bodies clean but also

keeping our rooms neat, tidy and clean. Untidy people waste many hours

searching for their things in messy rooms. Let’s look after our environment by

practicing Cleanliness and making sure we put our dirty plates in the sink or

dishwasher and our waste in the bin.

In past years Emerson School has achieved outstanding results, including taking out the Champion School Perpetual trophy in 2018.

This year we have over 100 entries and again are very proud of all our students who have given their time and efforts to representing

our school. Best of luck to Emerson School and all our participants. (See last page of this weeks newsletter for more details on the

Dandenong Show 2019).

Congratulations Ms Ward and SSE on the very successful high tea yesterday. A very big thank you to all those wonderful staff who helped make this such a lovely occasion.

SSA & SSB’S

EXCURSION TO

TRY-BUILD

On Tuesday 22nd October, SSA & SSB attended Try-Build in

Dandenong South. Try-Build has ceased their Building &

Construction course and offered Emerson School the

opportunity to acquire excess tools, equipment and materials at

no charge for us to use. We are very grateful and thankful to

the staff and management of Try-Build.

SSB & SSF’S

EXCURSION TO THE

CUCKOO

RESTAURANT

On Wednesday 23rd October, SSF accompanied by SSB went on an excursion to the Cuckoo Restaurant in Mount Dandenong. Our first stop was to the Mount Dandenong Sky High Restaurant Lookout where we disembarked the bus to stretch our legs and admire the stunning views of Melbourne city and the surrounding eastern suburbs. We then returned to the town of Sassafras where we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at the incredible lolly shop and amazing tea rooms with hundreds of beautiful teapots on display. Our last stop for the day was the Cuckoo Restaurant, a German smorgasbord restaurant in Olinda. Everybody enjoyed the food and entertainment. Both students and staff alike had a fantastic time joining in doing the Macarena, Hokey Pokey and the Chicken Dance. A great day was had by all. A big thank you to all the teachers for organising this cultural experience for us. Sam L (SSF)

EMERSON SCHOOL SPORTS REPORT Cont...

Secondary State Championships On Friday, 18th October, five Emerson Middle and Senior students represented the school and the region at the Secondary State Track and Field Championships at Lakeside Stadium. In total, the team collected six Gold and two Silver medals. As a result, the school finished 13th out of 268 schools in the combined team scores. In seven out of 10 performances on the day, students bettered their result from the Regionals the previous week. This is a tremendous achievement and all students should be extremely proud of their efforts.

Primary Regional Championships On Monday, 21st October, eight Emerson Junior and Middle students represented the school at the Primary Regional Track and Field Championships at Casey Fields. The team collected eight Gold, 10 Silver and three Bronze medals. A special mention to Hannah M (JSG), who having never done shot put before threw 2.67m to take the Gold medal! All eight students qualified for the State Championships at Lakeside Stadium which occurred yesterday. Results will be in next week’s newsletter. Chris Winter – Athletics & Cross Country Coach

HEALTH TIP: Good personal hygiene habits include:

Washing the body often. If possible, everybody should have a shower or a bath every day and put on deodorant. However, there may be times when this is not possible, for example, when people are out camping or there is a shortage of water.

If this happens, a swim or a wash all over the body with a wet sponge or cloth will do and put on deodorant.

Cleaning the teeth at least once a day. Brushing the teeth after each meal is the best way of making sure that gum disease and tooth decay are avoided. It is very important to clean teeth after breakfast and immediately before going to bed.

Washing the hair with soap or shampoo at least once a week.

Washing hands with soap after going to the toilet.

Washing hands with soap before preparing and/or eating food. During normal daily activities, such as working and playing, disease causing germs may get onto the hands and under the nails. If the germs are not washed off before preparing food or eating, they may get onto the food.

Changing into clean clothes. Dirty clothes should be washed with laundry soap before wearing them again.

Hanging clothes in the sun to dry. The sun's rays will kill some disease-causing germs and parasites.

Turning away from other people and covering the nose and mouth with a tissue or your arm when coughing or sneezing. If this is not done, droplets of liquid containing germs from the nose and mouth will be spread in the air and other people can breathe them in, or the droplets can get onto food.
