I would like to congratulate all students, families and staff for the way you are all working together in our new Learning from Home environment. The enthusiasm shown by many students is resulng in a multude of communicaons by various messaging systems including Google Classroom, video posngs, hard copy learning deliveries, texts, websites and phone calls. I ask all parents to promote connuous communicaons with our school so that we are all helping one another in creang new learning pathways that we will be able to use in the future when the COVID-19 pandemic has become a memory. We have to connue our vigilance to ensure that the spread of COVID-19 is stopped in its tracks. My view is that, if we keep reducing daily infecons to a very low number, we will ensure that future spikes of COVID-19 infecons are kept to a minimum. Countries that have lowered their guard and reduced isolaon have paid the price. Japan has had to reintroduce a State of Emergency for this reason. Only 25 days ago, Canada had less infecons than Australia. Australia now has 6,462 cases of infecon with 63 deaths. Canada has a disastrous 30,809 cases and 1,258 deaths. If we end our current proacve restricons in Australia, we will pay a cruel price which could be just as bad as Canada. Australians need to be very careful about many things including social distance and crowding on public transport. We have to remind ourselves that travelling on a crowded school bus would be inving a disaster. I encourage everyone to keep up their good work. Keep up the high level of communicaon partnerships. Put happiness and humour in our lives everyday so that we dont become gloomy about the obvious pressures that we are living under. Together we can do it! PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

DIARY DATES

REMOTE LEARNING UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

I would like to congratulate all students, families and staff for the way you are all working together in our new Learning from Home environment. The enthusiasm shown by many students is resulting in a multitude of communications by various messaging systems including Google Classroom, video postings, hard copy learning deliveries, texts, websites and phone calls. I ask all parents to promote continuous communications with our school so that we are all helping one another in creating new learning pathways that we will be able to use in the future when the COVID-19 pandemic has become a memory. We have to continue our vigilance to ensure that the spread of COVID-19 is stopped in its tracks. My view is that, if we keep reducing daily infections to a very low number, we will ensure that future spikes of COVID-19 infections are kept to a minimum. Countries that have lowered their guard and reduced isolation have paid the price. Japan has had to reintroduce a State of Emergency for this reason. Only 25 days ago, Canada had less infections than Australia. Australia now has 6,462 cases of infection with 63 deaths. Canada has a disastrous 30,809 cases and 1,258 deaths. If we end our current proactive restrictions in Australia, we will pay a cruel price which could be just as bad as Canada. Australians need to be very careful about many things including social distance and crowding on public transport. We have to remind ourselves that travelling on a crowded school bus would be inviting a disaster. I encourage everyone to keep up their good work. Keep up the high level of communication partnerships. Put happiness and humour in our lives everyday so that we don’t become gloomy about the obvious pressures that we are living under. We will continue our study of the value Kindness for the month of April. Staff and students are well aware of the importance of staying home being the safest option for beating Covid-19. No doubt it has been tough not being able to visit our friends and extended family members. If we show Kindness to each other during this time, our time will pass quicker and be more pleasant. Kindness is demonstrated every time you do something nice for another person without waiting for them to return the favour. It does not need to cost us anything, Kindness can be a small gesture that help’s brighten up someone’s day.

Here are a few ideas. Maybe you can add more to my list.

Helping mum with the dishes, washing or vacuuming.

Offer to help cook a meal for the other family members to eat.

Plan a fun activity for the family to do. (quiz, board game, charades, table tennis tournament, computer game competition etc.)

Write a positive anonymous note about something you like about your family member and hide it somewhere for them to find.

Make mum or dad a cuppa and invite them to sit down and enjoy a few minutes of uninterrupted time. Can you add to my list? Please email me at [email protected] with your suggestions and they will appear in next week’s newsletter. Please go to the last page of the newsletter and have fun completing our Kindness puzzle page.

REMOTE LEARNING Parents and Carers are reminded that the safest place on earth at the moment is to stay at home. The Emerson staff are working very hard to provide lessons in hard copy packs as well as some online delivery. Together we will get through this. Here are Mrs Searle and Mr McKinnon presenting lessons to their students via the internet.

Here is Mr Hodgson presenting work remotely.

Here is Chrissie M from MSC, safe at home, completing school work and playing outside making the most of the nice weather.

Please take photo’s of yourself remotely learning or doing other activities at home and send them to Julie Wayth via email at [email protected] to be included in future newsletters.

This is Mr Bowen, Mr Dieuson and Mr McMahon supporting students remote learning.

Here are Ms Liddy, Ms Gould and Ms Pubby working as a team whilst remaining 1.5 metres away from each other.

The photo to the left shows Ms Spencer & Ms Bendle from Student Services working hard supporting our students with remote learning.
