Indoor Sports Building

In France

French Lindab Builder Travaux Aquitains based in Merignac built this sports building for Le Nolet, located in Biganos (France).

This AZM2 structure of 1,178m² was specially designed for 6 Squash courts and 3 Jorkyball playground (indoor football game with 4 players), distributed on both sides of a long glass-walled corridor. A mezzanine of 154m² provides a panoramic view of the sports grounds and offers customers a space where they can eat and drink. With a 120mm insulation in the roof and a 100mm insulation in the walls, this building fully respects the RT2005 building regulation and offers a pleasant

indoor climate to the players who unanimously: “Even when it’s hot outside in the summer, we can play in good conditions”.

This building is one of the best equipped in France. That is mainly the reason why Le Nolet obtained an authorization for the organization of Squash and Jorkyball tournaments; which they did immediately. At the end, it’s only thanks to the perseverance of Christian Maury (Travaux Aquitains) and to his good relationships with the two customers, that the dream came true.

SAR STROY from Irkutsk joined the network of Lindab Builders early 2011. Over the past year, the company almost

completed a warehouse delivered by Lindab Buildings and continues to work on three other projects. We asked Sergei Volokitin, Deputy Director for Construction of SAR STROY, to share the secret of their success.

How did you become a Lindab Builder?

Sergei Volokitin: In 2010, our company needed to expand with the construction of a new warehouse. The best option was MVK-Stroy, a Lindab Builder. We appreciated the benefits provided by this product – low metal consumption, high quality, accurate price. After visiting Lindab plant in Yaroslavl, we signed an agreement with MVK-Stroy, brought the

building to Irkutsk and erected it on our own. We then began to think whether we could become a Lindab Builder, there is a shortage of good quality warehouse space in Irkutsk region. Besides, we already have an example of Lindab building that we can show to our customers.

Today, SAR STROY is the only official Lindab Builder in the Eastern Siberia and Russian Far East. It took six months to train our 60 employees and ensure that they are focused on the modern style and working methods that correspond to European technology level, quality requirements and the time frames for completing the orders. Our employees received special training and were certified by a certification center, located in Luxembourg

What are the main advantages?

Sergei Volokitin: A key “plus” is that our supplier has a firm pricing policy. Prices fixed by contract are kept throughout its validity period. Therefore a Customer gets reliable prices and partnership.

Metal, so popular in European construction and architecture, may become an interesting solution in architectural practice of Irkutsk. Lindab technologies ensure individualization and renew methods of architectural design.

We continue with our monthly report on the value of steel with a loot at some of the ways that steel is being used in our day-to-day lives to foster our development and well-being.

Part 2 - Steel: refreshing you

Meeting the world’s freshwater needs is a serious challenge. At least one in five people in the world lack an adequate supply of safe drinking water. Steel is helping to meet this growing need.

From obtaining and purifying our water to make it suitable for drinking, to delivering it safely, steel is there at every step. It is used to line boreholes, in filtering and holding tanks at water treatment facilities as well as pumps and pipes that carry the freshwater throughout the community all the way to our homes. In regions of freshwater scarcity, steel provides water through rainwater storage, drilling wells and desalination facilities.

In and around cities

Steel enables communities to build water infrastructure such as canals, harbours, fish passages, culverts, sewers and storm-water detention. Steel bridges and tunnels allow people to get around water easily. Steel barriers are also important to prevent flooding in areas of increasing sea-levels around the world.

Today, more than half of the world’s population live in cities. In many cities, more than 40% of the total water supply is lost during distribution. Steel solutions reduce these loses. Tokyo has adopted corrugated stainless steel pipes for 90% of its extensive network of underground potable water pipes, eliminating leakages and lowering costs.
