BCFM North Walk-in Clinic Meets a Community Need

The growth of the Boone County Family Medicine North Walk-in Clinic has far exceeded expec-tations of Boone County Hospital Administration

since it opened in July 2016. e need for immediate healthcare services for non-emergent illnesses and injuries was evident; the growing number of patients each month is proof of that. Audrey Hohanshelt, Walk-in Clinic Director, says, “e timing was every-

thing with UnityPoint leaving Boone. With the clinic opening in July and UnityPoint leaving at the end of October, we knew we would be filling a void. We also filled a need for convenient care seven days a week.” “e dynamics with families has changed so much over the years,” Audrey says. “With both parents or a single parent working and families more in-volved in activities outside of the home, convenience is more of a priority than ever before. People want quality care that is quick and fast.” e Walk-in Clinic was originally called the Aer Hours Clinic and was only open on weeknights and weekends. As the number of patients continued to grow from month to month, it was evident the hours needed to be expanded and a location with more space was

needed. In November, the clinic moved to Boone County Family Medicine (BCFM) North located at 120 South Story Street. Since the clinic expanded its hours in January 2017, between 800 and 1,000 patients are being seen each month. “is is a huge benefit for the city of Boone. We want to provide our commu-nity with quality care so they don’t have to go elsewhere for care,” says Audrey. “e word is out that we are here.” Four mid-level practitioners, Josh Chrisopulos, PA-C, Mindy Royster, ARNP, Rebecca Nunn-Ryan, ARNP, and Dawn Tingwald, ARNP, provide care at the clinic. Several BCH physicians also fill in as needed. e clinic is open every day of the year except Christmas; during other holidays, the clinic will be open on limited hours. Clinic hours are 9 a.m.

to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Illnesses and injuries that can be treated in the clinic are sore throat and sinus infection, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, sprains and strains, splint application, urinary tract infection, migraine, upper respiratory infection, simple wounds/lacerations, skin rash and infections, nose bleed packing, cuts and minor burns, allergic reaction to a bug bite, ear infection, and foreign body removal. More serious illnesses and injuries will need to be seen in the Emergency Room (ER). “We want people to know we are here for their convenience. No appointment is needed, thus the reason we are called the Walk-in Clinic,” says Audrey.

Rehab Services Expands to Ogden

Whether you just had surgery, you

have an injury or if you have an on-

going issue such as neck or back pain,

rehabilitation may be something your

doctor recommends or something you

feel might benefit you. The goal of

Rehab Services at Boone County

Hospital (BCH) is to help each individual

recuperate and rehabilitate so they

can return to a comfortable lifestyle.

With that goal in mind, Rehab

Services wanted to expand their

physical therapy services to the Ogden

community. “Since we have a large

patient base of all ages from the

Ogden area, we felt opening a clinic

in downtown Ogden was necessary,”

says Jake Stotts, DPT, Rehab Services.

“Rehab Services has been serving

home care patients in Ogden for

over 34 years and has been providing

athletic training to the Ogden schools

for the past five years.”

The Rehab Services Clinic, which

opened in January and is located at

317 West Walnut in Ogden, is currently

open Tuesdays and Thursdays from

1 to 5 p.m. Jake’s goal is to eventually

expand those hours.

“The clinic has exceeded my expec-

tations,” says Jake. “It has worked out

really well for the needs of our patients.

The Ogden community has been very

welcoming,” says Jake. In addition,

Jake says it’s also nice being in close

proximity to Boone County Family

Medicine, located across the street.

It has brought a continuity of care that

was missing before. Jake is able to work

closely with Dr. Glawe, Dawn Tingwald,

ARNP, and the staff on patient referrals.

“Because Boone County Family

Medicine and Rehab Services are affil-

iated with Boone County Hospital, we

are able to provide consistent patient

care. It is much more convenient for

Ogden patients and allows them to

keep their care in Ogden,” says Jake.

The services available at the new

clinic include sports rehab, vestibular

rehab, orthopedic injury/surgery rehab,

dry needling, Graston technique, LSVT-

Parkinson’s disease, gait training and

analysis, balance training, lower/upper

extremity pathology, kinesiotaping and

work-related injury rehab.

The billing for the new clinic is

designated as an office visit and is

a big benefit to the patient, as they only

pay a co-pay. If they receive treatment

at BCH Rehab Services in Boone, the

services provided are considered an

outpatient visit. If in question, patients

can contact their insurance company

before a scheduled visit so they can

help the patient understand their

responsibility in payment when

receiving these services; this will help

them decide which facility best meets

their needs.

Physical therapy appointments

can be scheduled by calling (515) 432-

7729. Specify that you want to be seen

in Rehab Services in Ogden.

Brian O’Tool, PT, Jake Stotts, DPT, and Tony Mack, PT—all three provide physical therapy at Rehab Services in Boone; Jake is also the physical therapist at the new clinic inOgden
