Sunday 17th April - Vocations Sunday. Excerpt from Message of Pope Francis.
“It is my great hope that, during the course of this Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, all the baptized may experience the joy of belonging to the Church and rediscover that the Christian vocation, just like every particular vocation, is born
from within the People of God, and is a gift of divine mercy. The Church is the house of mercy, and it is the “soil” where vocations take root, mature and bear fruit. The call of
God comes to us by means of a mediation which is communal. God calls us to become part of the Church and, after we have reached a certain maturity within it, he bestows on us a specific vocation. The vocational journey is undertaken together with the brothers and sisters whom the Lord has given to us. On this Sunday dedicated to prayer for vocations, I urge all the faithful to assume their responsibility for the care
and discernment of vocations”. (Pope Francis)

The Deep End - ‘I know them and they
Follow Me’
During this Easter season we are celebrating the presence of the Risen Jesus in our lives and in our world. Jesus tells us that
he knows his flock and because of this ‘knowing’, they follow him. As Christians, we are called towards ‘knowing’ God more intimately and more deeply. Each of us, on our own journeys and paths, vocations and ministries, are part of this ‘flock’ because of the deep desire to ‘know’ God more deeply. It is a very special thing. No matter what our role is in our community, parish, church and so on, it is important to remember what it is that brings us together
- the desire to know God, to know God’s love and to share that love and ‘knowledge’ with others, especially those who are lost and at the margins.
Very often, those most ‘lost’ in our communities do not experience the presence of the Christian community as they should, they can be cast aside and
excluded. Jesus tells us here, no one can snatch them out of His hand. This week can you try to recognise that deep desire within you to know God more fully? What does that mean for you? What does that mean for those you meet
in your day to day life? If you have come to help me, you are wasting your time. But if you have come
because your liberation is bound with mine, then let us go together.

MASS INTENTIONS FOR THE WEEK.
Sanctuary Lamp: Special Intention.
This is Good Shepherd Sunday, a day of special prayer for vocations to
the work of service in the Church. There is the
enduring command of Christ to his Church to
go out and preach to all people. There is need for people of faith to respond to that
command, people who are prepared to dedicate their lives to this work for the
sake of the gospel.
The Church is expanding rapidly. Paul and Barnabas have headed off to bring
the Gospel to ex-pat Jewish communities all over the Middle East. Their initial reception was enthusiastic but some
established traditional religious Jews not only disowned the missionary pair, but
quickly ran them out of town.
A central feature of the Apocalypse is the struggle between the forces of good and evil. This struggle is depicted through a
three fold repeated structure. Firstly, there is persecution of the faithful.
Secondly, there is defeat of the evil ones. Thirdly, there is the triumph of God and his allies. This weekend’s reading is a glorious foretelling of how the Lamb
leads his faithful ones to victory and then on to the glory and praise of God.
Anniversaries: We remember in our prayers this weekend Michael & Joanna Cullen Wexford, Decd members of the Gannon Family Arnestown, Patrick Doyle 55 Lower Mount Carmel, Veronica Doyle William Street. ____________________________________
The Funeral Pall. The Funeral Pall, blessed by Bishop
Denis Brennan on Easter Sunday morning is now used for all funerals in
our Parish. The Pall is a large white cloth that covers the coffin in the church. It is
placed on the coffin when it is received into the church. The Pall is a
reminder of the white robe that is put on the newly baptised to symbolise their
new life in Christ. It is also a reminder that all are equal in the eyes of God.
