People’s feet come in different combinations of widths, heights and lengths. It takes time to achieve the best fit possible. The general procedure for achieving a good fit is: 1. Unlace the boot and open wide; pull the tongue forward. 2. Insert foot. Slide foot all the way forward while keeping toes flat. 3. Try to insert your index finger behind the heel. It should be a tight squeeze. Only half a finger width is recommended, otherwise the boot is too long. 4. Kick the heel to the back of the boot. Fit the tongue in around the leg and lace up the skate properly. If the throat of the boot is stretched too wide, the boot is too short or too narrow. If the throat of the boot appears narrow or the toe seam is buckled, the boot is too long or too wide. 5. Stand up in both boots. The toes should be laying flat and not touching the end of the boot. 6. Walk in the boots. The heels must stay down inside the boot and not move. If the heel is too wide and the foot moves, blisters or bone spurs may develop. This also promotes premature boot breakdown. Blade Care *Wear Skate guards! *Have Blade Covers to protect your edges while they are in your bag, or in storage. *If you do not have Blade Covers, wrap a dry towel or rag around you blades. *Dry your blades COMPLETELY, rust will dull your edges quickly. *Once a week or so wipe your blades with a cloth with a little oil on it. *DO NOT walk on any surface except the ice. Rubber Mats and floor coverings are walked on constantly and have dirt, gravel and sand covering the surface that you can't see. These types of surfaces dull your blades quickly. Step out of your guards onto the ice and visa versa. Boot Care *Dry boots before placing in your skating bag. *Take skates out of your bag to store. Wet boots take 24 to 36 hours to dry out properly. *Do not place your skates next to excessive heat such as fireplaces, radiators, ovens, or heaters of any kind. The better you take care of your Boots, the longer and better they will perform for you. The dryer your boots are, the dryer and warmer your feet will be! Skate Information
