On Sunday, April 17 th , we will celebrate what is traditionally known as Palm Sunday or the Sunday of the Passion. This is the day on which Jesus rode into the holy city of Jerusalem on the back of a donkey to the cheers and praises of His followers. It is also, by tradition, the day that the Gospel reading tells of the trial, crucifixion, and burial of our Lord. We must be careful that we do not fall into the same thinking of those who welcomed Jesus as King. They hailed Him on that Sunday, but as the week wore on they became disappointed in Jesus because He failed to live up to their self-centered expectations. His glory would not be the triumphal entry, but the hoist- ing of the cross on Calvary. On Thursday night we will, with reverence, remember the institution of our Lord’s Sup- per. This is the same night on which He would be betrayed into the hands of those who hated Him by one who had professed his love. It is also the night on which He would be abandoned by His followers and denied by one who had said to Him, ―Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death.‖ We give thanks on this sol- emn night for the Sacrament of the Altar, the very body and blood of our Lord, which is given to us to eat and to drink for life, salvation, and the forgiveness of our sins. On Friday we gather, not for a funeral of Jesus, but to remember His death on a day we call Good. It is indeed ―good‖ because without this death on the cross of the only- begotten Son of God, the Lamb who takes away the sin of the world, we would all wal- low in our sinful separation from God, facing eternal condemnation and damnation. We remember His death and burial in anticipation of His promised resurrection. Sunday, April 24 th , we will gather as the family of God to rejoice. Jesus lives! The vic- tory has been won! He has conquered sin, death, and the devil. We have been set free from slavery to sin. The resurrection of Christ is two-fold in purpose: it gives us the true sign of God the Father’s satisfaction in the blood sacrifice of His Son for the redemption of the world, and it is the promise to all who believe that they, too, will be raised on the Last Day. Death has been defeated. I urge you – all who read these words – to, if it is possible, come, join us on Palm Sun- day, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Day of Resurrection. Remember, there could be no celebration of Christ being raised from the dead if there had been no cru- cifixion. To God be all glory. He has loved you enough to send His Son to die and rise for YOU! THE NEWSLETTER

The Christian Church on earth is about to enter Holy Week. Like the celebration of the

birth of Jesus which we call Christmas, the Day of Resurrection, which is called East-

er, has been usurped by the secular world. Jesus Christ, His suffering, death, and

resurrection has been replaced by bunnies, chocolates, colored eggs, and peeps.

On Sunday, April 17th, we will celebrate what is traditionally known as Palm Sunday or

the Sunday of the Passion. This is the day on which Jesus rode into the holy city of

Jerusalem on the back of a donkey to the cheers and praises of His followers. It is

also, by tradition, the day that the Gospel reading tells of the trial, crucifixion, and

burial of our Lord. We must be careful that we do not fall into the same thinking of

those who welcomed Jesus as King. They hailed Him on that Sunday, but as the

week wore on they became disappointed in Jesus because He failed to live up to their self-centered expectations. His glory would not be the triumphal entry, but the hoist-

ing of the cross on Calvary.

On Thursday night we will, with reverence, remember the institution of our Lord’s Sup-

per. This is the same night on which He would be betrayed into the hands of those

who hated Him by one who had professed his love. It is also the night on which He

would be abandoned by His followers and denied by one who had said to Him, ―Lord,

I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death.‖ We give thanks on this sol-

emn night for the Sacrament of the Altar, the very body and blood of our Lord, which

is given to us to eat and to drink for life, salvation, and the forgiveness of our sins.

On Friday we gather, not for a funeral of Jesus, but to remember His death on a day we

call Good. It is indeed ―good‖ because without this death on the cross of the only-

begotten Son of God, the Lamb who takes away the sin of the world, we would all wal-

low in our sinful separation from God, facing eternal condemnation and damnation.

We remember His death and burial in anticipation of His promised resurrection.

Sunday, April 24th, we will gather as the family of God to rejoice. Jesus lives! The vic-

tory has been won! He has conquered sin, death, and the devil. We have been set

free from slavery to sin. The resurrection of Christ is two-fold in purpose: it gives us

the true sign of God the Father’s satisfaction in the blood sacrifice of His Son for the

redemption of the world, and it is the promise to all who believe that they, too, will be

raised on the Last Day. Death has been defeated.

I urge you – all who read these words – to, if it is possible, come, join us on Palm Sun-

day, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Day of Resurrection. Remember, there

could be no celebration of Christ being raised from the dead if there had been no cru-

cifixion.

To God be all glory. He has loved you enough to send His Son to die and rise for YOU!

Preparing for Easter

A note on our Holy Week Services

On Maundy Thursday, the service will begin as usual with the invocation, but will not close with a

benediction. On Good Friday, there is no invocation. The services from Maundy Thursday through

Holy Saturday form one complete liturgy. Please note that, because of this, the congregation will

enter and exit in silence for these two services.

A special thanks to the Altar Guild for the solemn ritual of the Stripping of the Altar on Maundy

Thursday,

A special thanks to all those who donated lilies for our celebration of The Feast of the Resurrection.

A note on the Newsletter

After a brief absence, the Newsletter is back! We hope you enjoy this abbreviated edition, and

we look forward to bringing you the next full edition in May—and updating the website!
