History Workshop

The History Department have organised a workshop

based around the study of World War One artefacts

called ‘In the Trenches’. The event will take place

during the October half-term on Tuesday 25th

October, between 10:00am to 3:00pm.

The day will involve students exploring historical artefacts in order to gain a

greater understanding of World War One and what life was like in the Trenches. The

day will also include a visit from D-Day veteran Dennis Davison who will talk about his

experiences of war and conflict. The aim of the day is to engage students with their

history studies through the use of historical sources and experiences from the time.

If you would like your child to take part in this day the cost will be £5. The event will

take place in the Pope Francis Hall and pupils will need to bring a packed lunch.

Students do not need to wear school uniform. It will also be your responsibility to

ensure the safety of your child to and from school.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me.

World War took place. The trip departs from the school in the early hours of Monday 16th July

and returns in the early hours of Thursday 19th July 2018. Transport, accommodation and tour

guides will all be provided by Anglia Battlefield Tours.

Science Club

Science Club has started again. This week’s session was what has become the traditional first week of the new academic

year activity – brain dissections. Students worked to study the key component parts of the brain and learn about what the

roles are of the different major sections and what they enable us to do. Next week will see work being done to build, and

later fly a variety of designs of rockets. As well as our usual weekly activities we have plans for a number of larger projects

this year – including construction of a radio telescope to detect radio signals from the sun and Jupiter, and studies based around artificial

amplification of DNA using PCR. To take part come to room 129 in the Science Department after school on Wednesdays; all year groups welcome.
