Sekrenyi Festival (Nagaland) Feb. 20 - March 1, 2016 (10 days) The Sekrenyi Festival is a 10-day spring festival of the Angami tribe. It is largely celebrated indoors, but for a few days also in public with mass singing and dancing in traditional clothing. The central theme is the purification of body and soul. The festival is animistic in origin as it dates back to the time before the Nagas were converted to Christianity. On this trip you’ll also visit the state of Meghalaya with its British past glory and the unique living bridges, made of tree roots, besides beautiful Kaziranga National Park in Assam, home to Indian rhinos, wild elephants, a fascinating bird life, and Bengal tigers. More info Hornbill Festival (Nagaland) Dec. 1 - 7, 2015 (7 days) The Hornbill Festival is the most spectacular, colorful and extensive festival in Northeast India. Organised by the State Directorate of Tourism, the festival is intended to revive, protect and preserve the richness and uniqueness of these erstwhile head hunters. At this festival, one can see a fascinating melange of Naga cultural displays. The festival is also a tribute to the hornbill, a bird most admired by the Naga people for its alertness and grandeur, which is symbolically displayed in the traditional tribal headgear. Local handicrafts, ranging from bamboo products to intricately woven traditional garments are on display, as well as stalls with Naga dishes. DESCRIPTION

The area where India, Southeast Asia and Bhutan meet is fascinating one because of its unmatched ethnical and cultural diversity. We invite you to come and enjoy the festival season with us. Soon, the (mountain) rice will have been harvested, work on the land will come to a halt. That means there is time for parties and festivals, be it of the religious kind or of a more profane nature. The devout Buddhistst of Bhutan and Sikkim troop en masse to the gompa's (monasteries) to attend the so-called tsechu's, ritual mask dances performed by monks to celebarate the victory of Buddhism over its animistic predecessor religions. In Arunachal Pradesh it is this very animistic, ancient culture - still very much predominant here - and the worshipping of the sun-moon god Donyi-Polo that is celebrated with ritualistic offerings. In our latest newsletter and on our site you'll find some of the festival tours that we offer.
