Newsletter May 2020
Greetings Siblings in Christ,
In talking with Cindy Marion, Director of
Student Nutrition for the Yadkin County
Schools, she asks that we keep all of her staff in
prayer. They have been working very hard
during this time and are trying very hard to stay
healthy in order to keep serving the children in
the community. We are so grateful for their
service.
Cindy also said "Churches can continue to
support us by providing bags of non-perishable
food that can be given to families in need. Bags
will be distributed with lunches. As of last
week, we still had some gaps in the west end of
the county." See the list of items that go in the
bags. If you would like to contribute, you can
either give a designated offering to the church
and someone will go shopping for the food or
you can assemble the bag/box yourself. A time
will be set up later for you to drop these items
off at the church so they can be distributed to
the schools. I anticipate that this work and method of distributing food will be part of our Summer Fun program
for this summer.
Summer Interns: We have been assigned not one, but two, summer interns from Duke Divinity. They will
be virtual until the end of June (subject to being pushed back). Their names are Skylar and
Sydney. Skylar is going into her third year and Sydney is just beginning at Duke this Fall.
More information will be in next newsletter.
Grace & Peace,
Pastor Jonathan

Church Council: The Church Council is scheduled to meet Thursday, May 14 at 6:00 p.m. We will
meet hopefully at the church but could be via Zoom. Marty Driver, Chairperson
Congratulations: Marty Driver has recently completed an eight-month leadership program provided
through our Western North Carolina Conference. The Spiritual Academy for Leading Transformation, or
SALT, was held at the Conference Center in Huntersville, NC. The purpose of the
program is to provide the tools and steps needed to accomplish a ministry action plan in
churches and communities. The ministry action plan consists of a team with context,
focus, and a strategy for transformation in our churches and communities. Marty spent
one Saturday each month since September of last year attending the all-day class at the
Conference Center in Huntersville. There were assignments to be completed each month
to share with the twenty some others also participating in SALT. Marty hopes to use the
knowledge she gained for a retirement project in a few years. She presented her final plan
via Zoom to instructors and fellow classmates on Saturday, April 25th.
United Methodist Women: Due to the Coronavirus crisis, all the UMW activities for May have been
canceled, but just think about this:
Noah's family was on "lockdown" for 40 days and 40 nights and GOD protected them.
GOD will do the same for us.
Until it is safe for us the meet again, STAY HOME!!!!
Love and Miss all of you,
Sandy, UMW president

Trustees: The Family Life Center, Sanctuary, educational building, and furniture are being sanitized while
not in use. Thanks to Harry and Steve for cleaning the convection oven in the kitchen. The fence has been
installed at the Parsonage. Special thanks to all who made this possible. Some outside projects will be
scheduled when possible.

Empty Bowls Update: We have completed another successful Empty Bowls event! With a sold-out
crowd, we enjoyed delicious food, great fellowship, wonderful entertainment, and friendly competition for
lovely auction items. All this would not have been possible without a team of committed volunteers who
worked tirelessly to make this event happen. You folks are amazing! We are also indebted to our generous
sponsors of this project. Thanks to all who attended and participated, we raised $35,000! What a tremendous
impact this will have on our ability to address food insecurity in Yadkin County.
Yadkin Christian Ministries
Prayer of the day
Holy One, be present with us as we live in these discouraging times. Help us to listen. Help us to see your presence all around us. Help us to shine a light on that Presence.
Peace. Amen.
