Mike Sullivan : Chairman

After nearly 4 years as Chairman I reflect on the

fact that we started with a little over 100 mem-

bers and at the latest count we have 321 and

we are still growing. The popularity of the U3A

whilst great is becoming a problem, the Com-

munity Hall holds a maximum of 160 persons

seated and there is no close alternative, conse-

quently we may have to either create a second

Tiptree Branch of the U3A, or find some other

way of reducing numbers for our meetings. The

Committee and I will be looking closely at ways

of dealing with the problem over the next few

months and will keep you informed of out-

comes. If any of you the members have any

bright ideas on what we could do, we would

love to hear from you. Similarly, despite our in-

creased numbers we still find that members do

not wish to take on responsibility and we are

still looking for a volunteer to take on the role of

Chairman from October. Without a Chairman,

the Branch could fold altogether. Think - your

U3A needs you.

Theatre Group “Tell us More ”

When the Theatre Group was formed, it soon became apparent that it was an interest many people en-joyed but quite often found too expensive, which is why the Group has really grown & gone from strength to strength.

By booking 53 seats at a time, we are able to get greatly reduced Grade A seats, which makes going to the Theatre much more affordable. Also being picked up by Coach & dropped off right by the Theatre & bought back home again is a real bonus!

Most of the Shows are in London but occasionally have been in Norwich & Westcliff On Sea. By leaving at 9am from St Luke's Church it leaves plenty of time for shopping or going for a meal before the Mat-inee Performance. We aim to see a variety of Shows ranging from Musicals to Plays & Comedies & we even went to see 'Cirque Du Soleil'.

If anyone is interested in joining us on going to The Theatre, you are most welcome. You can either leave your email address or telephone number at the Monthly Meeting or by clicking on the Bluebird on the Theatre Group section on the Tiptree U3A Website to leave your details. You will then be notified of all up & coming Shows by the Group Email or by phone if you do not use the Computer. Carol James and Chrissy Davidson

Deadline for next issue 21stJune 2017.
