The Year 12 students also sensed the significance of the event as well, with them dressing up in a Tribal theme and competing in their very last school athletics carnival. The end of Year 12 is starting to become a reality. PROFESSIONAL LEARNING AT MOLONG CENTRAL Last Wednesday staff from K-12 attended the first of three professional learning opportunities aimed at improving students writing. Audrey Brown presented the Middle School Writing Workshop to teachers and I have since received some very positive feedback from some of the staff who attended the workshop. It was a great opportunity for the staff to come together and writing will become a focus for the whole school. I look forward to the next instalment in our Middle School Writing project. LEIGH BROWN TO PERFORM AT THE SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE Year 9 MCS student Leigh Brown has been selected to represent Molong Central and the region at state level as a member of the 2016 NSW Department of Education State Senior Wind Band as part of the 2016 Instrumental Festival. This is a fabulous opportunity for Leigh and he will have the chance to join other talented musicians around the state. The festival will take place at the end of August and I am sure Leigh will be able to share his experiences with us when he returns. PRIMARY PREPARING FOR END OF YEAR PRODUCTION Last week I was fortunate to come across several classes who were involved in early rehearsals for the Primary Production that will occur in Term 4. The joy that students experience during these opportunities is evident as they smile their way through songs. I will be looking forward to watching their efforts come together. SCHOOL ATTENDANCE

We are continuing our push on improved student attendance from K-12 – all the statistics show that children who attend school every day do much better not only at school, but beyond school as well. Think of the maths involved:-

If absent for just 1 day per week This is 10 days per term. Or 40 days per year which equates to 8 weeks of the year. Nearly a full term! Do this from Year K-6 and 56 week or nearly a 1.5

school years are missed. Do this from Year 7-10 and 32 weeks or nearly a year

of school is missed. This is schooling that can’t be caught up on, each day counts.

Of course we know that sickness can prevent attendance, but can we encourage you to send a note to the school within 2 days to explain the absence. Principals are legally responsible for keeping accurate records of student attendance. Many parents are not aware that Exemptions may be granted for attendance at school, for the following reasons.

Hospitalisation

Elite sporting participation.

Family bereavement Infectious illness

These exemptions need to be applied for in advance or as soon as possible into/after the series of absences. This can be put into place with a phone call to the school, or by picking up an exemption form from the Main Office or Primary Office.

If a child’s absence was a sensitive issue or for personal reasons and you do not wish to discuss the absences with our Office Staff, you may ask to speak to either myself or the Principal, or you may post your absence letter to the school and mark it “Confidential” and for the “Attention of the Principal”.

We continue to seek the cooperation of parents in caring for the educational needs of MCS students, and this includes regular attendance at school.

Molong Cross Country Last Friday Molong Central School held their Cross Country

Trials at the Molong Golf Course. This year we had runners

from Year 1 to Year 6. There were 5 age groups running and

a new course. It was great to see our boys and girls

cheering each other on. Cross country running is a very

difficult sport and takes determination to compete. We saw

plenty of the determination that was required to finish

their races.

As always we had lots of support from wonderful parents,

and without their help days like this would not be a great

success.

There have been 4 runners from each age group selected to

run at the District Cross Country at Cudal on the 27th of

May.

The following have been selected to represent MCS at Cudal

Hi Everyone,

On Wednesday 25th May at 11:00 am K-2 classes

participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime.

Children joined students from all over Australia to read ‘I

Got This Hat’ written by Jol & Kate Temple, illustrated by

Jon Foye.

I hope many students and their families have taken the

opportunity to celebrate ‘National Family Reading Month’.

Don’t forget to fill in the minutes you read as a family every

night on your child’s form that was sent home at the

beginning of Week 3.

From Wednesday, 1st June families may start to send in their

completed sheets to the Library for safe keeping. Please note

on your child’s form whether or not you have entered them

into the Scholastic competition.

Molong Central School students will soon have access to

ebooks.

MCS has combined with several other Central West High

Schools to create an ePlatform Consortium.

Our students will be able to borrow not only from our

school platform but also from the other High Schools’

collections.

There will be more information sent home soon.

Parents, Grandparents, Carers

As a parent you have an important role in your child’s education.

As a teacher we only see your child for a part of their learning time; therefore we need your

support in helping your child succeed.

To Help Your Child Succeed! Try to keep absences to a minimum

Good attendance is essential to success! Ask about Homework

Homework is often given to support work learned during the day.

Ask about Assessment Tasks and projects This is the way students show what they have learned.

Encourage your child to see their teacher for extra help as needed.

Let your child know you expect them to do their BEST!

MCS CLOTHING POOL The P&C committee would like to remind parents that we have a wonderful array of pre-loved school uniforms available at very reasonable prices from the MCS Clothing Pool, located adjacent to the Main Office. We also gladly accept donations of used school uniforms, (in good condition only), to use for re sale. The option is also available for you to sell items privately, if so, please attach your price, name and phone number to the item before depositing to the Main Office.
