The International Organization for Standardization, develops
and publishes International Standards.
International Standards give world-class specifications for products,
services and systems, to ensure quality, safety and efficiency. They
are instrumental in facilitating international trade. ISO has published
more than 21000 International Standards and related documents,
covering almost every industry, from technology, to food safety, to
agriculture and healthcare. ISO International Standards impact
everyone, everywhere.
ISO standards development
An ISO standard is developed by a panel of experts, within a
technical committee.
Once the need for a standard has been established, these experts
meet to discuss and negotiate a draft standard. As soon as a draft
has been developed it is shared with ISO’s members who are asked
to comment and vote on it.
If a consensus is reached the draft becomes an ISO standard. See
figure below.
LAST MEETINGS IN ISO
LAST MEETINGS ABOUT THE WOODWORKING TECHNOLOGY INDUSTRY
Two meetings were held in Paris from 11 to 13 July about manual fed machines (WG2) and automatic fed machines and common requirements (WG1) of ISO TC39 SC4 (woodworking machinery). The WG2 led by Ing. Goguel discussed the comments received at inquiry on the draft ISO DIS 19085-7 on planing machines (surface, thickness and combined surface-thickness), descending from the relevant European standards (EN 859, 860, 861, merged together. The WG1 led by Ing. Simonetta discussed the comments received to the second inquiry on the draft ISO DIS 19085-4 on vertical panel sawing machines, taken from the relevant European Standard EN 1870-14. A second inquiry was necessary because after the first one a sufficient number of votes was not reached. Now both drafts are ready for formal vote, to which it’s possible to submit only editorial comments. The following step is publication, in English and French, and the national standards bodies can translate it in their local language.

Mr Abdul Sobur, Vice Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Furniture and Handicraft Industries (HIMKI) said that
“IFMAC and WOODMAC meet the needs of information and technological advancement in Indonesia’s furniture
components industry. The exhibitions can foster innovation and creativity amongst national furniture and handicraft
businesses to produce superior products that have added value optimal.”
He also added that, “exhibition was held at the right time, given that almost most of the machines used in the furniture and
handicraft industry in Indonesia has been in operation for more than 20 years. With a long working life, it is certain that the
level of efficiency and productivity is lagging behind compared to the current generation machine. Through the rejuvenation
of the production machinery, furniture and handicraft industries can boost productivity without adding labour.”

Industry of The Republic of Indonesia, Ministry Trade of The Republic of Indonesia, Indonesia Sawmill and Woodworking

COMPANIES LOOK FOR POSITIONING AT FITECMA IN ORDER TO GAIN
MARKET IN 2017
Nine months before the opening, there remains available less 10 per cent of FITECMA 2017 area. And enquiries are being permanently received, both from domestic and foreign companies, showing their intention to be present. Organizing Committee Members explain this movement unusual for the current economic moment because of the government forecasts – coinciding with most of private consultants – that Argentina will again grow around 3 per cent from next year. And this generates favorable expectations for the fair, considering that due to its schedule (June 13th to 17th, 2017) it could happen at full growth peak. With a more marketing-oriented vision, José Vásquez, FITECMA Executive Director, focuses on the “fair’s leadership image”, asserting that the event counts always on the backing and support of different organizations and associations; it has a strong presence before and during its development on industry communication media; it receives the attendance of professional public; it keeps or increases the number of exhibitors year after year; it presents all the technological novelties in processes and supplies; and for these reasons since 1994 the fair “is acknowledged a great prestige at all the sectors participating in the wood-furniture value chain”. With regard to convening power, Vásquez points out that all the fair visitors are specialized, they belong to industry. “We are talking about a person attending the fair because he is really interested in knowing and interplaying with machines and supplies; he is looking for contacts; and he wants direct information and advice from exhibitors. And this person becomes the real main character of the fair, and this has been a distinctive feature of FITECMA at each of its editions. There is no other scope which can gather in five days and in a same premise all the market actors and which is attended by more than 13,000 purchase-decision powered visitors from all over Argentina”. It should be stressed that 74 per cent of attendants to FITECMA last edition are owners or directors, while other 11 per cent are chiefs or managers. This demonstrates that 9 out of 10 visitors to the fair make purchase decisions in
companies or they have direct influence on the suppliers they choose. Another of the reasons to recreate a good business climate within the fair is the optimal public segmentation, as it is a fair which is acceded only by invitation. It has, moreover, a special logistics for visitors from the main wood and furniture poles from inland Argentina, which has an important influence in the high degree of geographical representation of the public. At the last edition, the Organizing Committee had available a free bus service coming from 25 towns from inland Argentina which brought to the fair 1,276 visitors. This is only one of the many actions carried out which have an effect on positive results for exhibitors. At the fair’s last edition, 50 per cent came from inland Argentina and 35 per cent from Buenos Aires province, fully ratifying that FITECMA is Argentina’s largest convening fair in the wood-furniture value chain.
