EMPLOYEE BUSINESS UPDATE

Greetings Villarans!

I have fallen a bit behind in reporting business news, so this month I can share our financial results from both March and April, the two months which experienced the greatest disruptions from the Covid-19 Pandemic. Let me just say up front, it could have been so much worse! Instead, overall we

have good news to share.

First, let’s hit the Revenue side. March started out fairly well, but as you know in mid-March we experienced the first wave of job closures, and when the dust settled we had fallen below plan by almost 5%: not too bad overall. April’s revenue was hit very hard, as most of our bay area jobsites were closed, so we missed our plan by almost $2.2 million dollars, or 16%. That is a very tough hit to absorb in a one month period. For year-to-date, because we had great revenue in January and February, we are still slightly ahead of plan, but that won’t last…..

So how did we do with our “Pre-Bonus Operating Profit” during those two months? Interestingly, while March’s revenue was much closer to budget, we just barely exceeded our monthly PBOI profit goal, coming in at 108%. I make that sound bad, don’t I? Well, in light of what we’ve been through, that was an amazing accomplishment as we absorbed major costs in dealing with the first onslaught of the Pandemic, including the full shutdown of the Plant for a day and a half. With those added costs along with the mass confusion we all experienced in the day-to-day flip-flops, we’re very pleased to have exceeded our monthly profit goal.

April is the month where we should have really struggled to generate any profit, with the huge reduction in revenue but... once again we worked hard and were blessed to experience even better results than in March, coming in at 122% of our month’s budget. This was only possible due to the herculean effort of every team member in the company. You all had to navigate the massive challenge of performing your work while many were home on Furlough or Leave, and many more worked part-time while receiving Workshare pay. AWESOME JOB, THANK YOU ONE AND ALL!

That helped us stay well above profit plan for the year at 145% of budget. While this isn’t our previous 2.0 and above, it is amazing for all we’ve been through. I’m really hoping that when the dust settles, this will be Villara’s “best recession ever”, even though that is a strange expression.

As usual, let’s take a look at our “Run TMC” numbers to see how we accomplished these positive results, and where we might have an opportunity to improve in future months.

Both “Run TMC” Results show absolutely phenomenal results in the “Time” category; you guys managed your time in a volatile workplace extremely well in both months. Again, THANK YOU! Conversely both months experienced above-plan costs in the Material category- this is always an area that deserves our attention. As we look towards the rest of our fiscal year, we expect the following:• Our revenues went up ~17% in May, a very nice increase that should increase our profitability.

• We are projecting somewhat lower revenues in June and July, with August seeing another mild

increase. Our revenue will be much lower than Plan for the remainder of the year, however, so we will struggle

to meet or beat our profit budgets in each of these months. Our best hope is to at least get close to our plan

each of these months, and hang in there for at least a “1.0” or maybe “1.2” bonus payout for all team members in

December. LET’S DO IT!

• On the very positive side, new home sales have recovered very quickly, regaining the strong sales pace

we were experiencing in January – March prior to the closures. We hope to see those sales provide momentum

throughout the remainder of this year, with 2021 coming back up to what we experienced in 2019, which was a

very, very good year that we wouldn’t mind repeating.

I’m sorry for the long update, I have more to share about how we plan to return to a more normal work schedule, but I’ll save that for another edition soon.

Thank you again for your hard work, and please stay safe and healthy while the virus is still among us.

Building People, Building Trust, Building Dreams ---together!

Blessings,

Rick Wylie

In light of everything happening, we want to highlight

Michelle Ackerman for doing the incredible act of

giving. With the support of the Villara team, she was

able to create and donate over 74 vases flowers to local

assisted living homes for their residents.
