SCHOOL FEES

Parents and carers are advised that school fees for 2014 are now payable. School fees are currently $30 per student or $50 per family.

A fee increase will be voted on at the P&C Meeting on Monday, 24th February.

Those wishing to avoid a fee increase are advised to pay their fees prior to Monday, 24th February as it is possible fees will increase after this date.

Parents and carers are also encouraged to attend the P&C Meeting on Monday, 24th February at 7.00pm in the school staffroom to join the discussion about fees and other matters.

BOOK PACKS

Thank you to those parents and carers who have paid for book packs. If you have not already done so, it would be appreciated if payment of $35 per student could be made prior to the end of February. This will ensure that all children have the required materials to enable a smooth transition in the classroom.

SCHOOL SWIMMING CARNIVAL

Thank you to all students who attended the Tyalla Swimming Carnival last Friday. Student participation and behaviour was wonderful and made the day a very pleasant experience for all who attended. A big thank you to those parents and carers who were able to make it to the carnival to support the students. As a final note I would like to thank the Tyalla teaching staff for their effort, assistance and enthusiasm. A big thank you also to Stewart Richards, Paul McCormack, Sue Lucas, Fran O’Shea, Deanna Wall and Carol Gordon who volunteered their time to help out at Friday’s Carnival. GARDEN CLUB UPDATE

Garden Club is up and running. KFS have helped label our new seedlings, Jap pumpkin, watermelon and corn. Thank you to Mick for doing a huge chunk of weeding.

TO DO: Do you have a spare few minutes while you wait for your children to finish school? The garden always needs helpers to weed and water - come on down and have a look.

DID YOU KNOW? Pineapple is actually a member of the Bromeliad family.

HERB OF THE WEEK: Tarragon

great with beef, chicken, fish, cream, butter, garlic, leeks, chives, chervil, potatoes, mushrooms, mustard, mayonnaise, eggs and artichokes.

Please see Mrs Spooner in KFS if you want any more information about our Garden Club.

CREATIVE & PERFORMING ARTS NEWS

This year will be another exciting year in Creative and Performing Arts at Tyalla Public School. There will be the Drumming, Guitar, Dance Groups & Hoop Troupe running again. Each group will have two smaller groups – a training and performance group. In addition, our Music Teacher, Mr Quiring, will be running a Singing Group. Auditions for these groups took place last week and this week. Congratulations to those students who were successful. Our lunchtime “training” groups will be a great opportunity for students to develop the skills required for performance. We look forward to another great year of nurturing and showcasing the amazing talent of Tyalla students in the community! Coordinating teachers are: Drumming: Mrs Spooner Guitar & Singing: Mr Quiring Dance: Mrs Devereux & Mrs McKenzie Hoop Troupe: Ms Coleman

3-4DK HISTORY UNIT This term we are learning about Community and Remembrance. Our first focus question for this unit is “Who lived here first and how do we know?” Mrs Perkins, our School Aboriginal Education Officer, spoke to us about this last week. We learned a lot from Mrs Perkins. We learned about the traditional Gumbaynggirr people, the use of fish traps and middens and that Coffs Harbour was originally known as Garlumburla - the place of the oak trees. Thank you Mrs Perkins for sharing your knowledge with us.
