FROM THE ACTING PRINCIPAL

Kalinda has been abuzz with learning this week. The children have settled quickly into their new classroom routines and the teachers have also been involved in learning with Michael Ymer.

Michael is a specialist mathematics consultant from Melbourne, Australia. He is involved in many Professional Development programs in schools across Australia and Asia. Michael is an enthusiastic and entertaining presenter who has a clear and practical approach to the challenges that confront schools and parents in mathematics. At Kalinda we are a learning community, showing the children that learning is a life long journey, and even teachers are constantly practising new skills and researching better ways to be even more effective in the classroom.

Exciting News Lochlan Anderson and Bianca Davies have welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Evie May to the world on Sunday. Mr Anderson said that Evie is absolutely gorgeous. We eagerly await a visit to meet their little miracle.

School Review Every four years, schools undertake a review process. Kalinda will be going through the review process this term. The review is a collaborative and transparent process to improve learning outcomes, promote excellence in our curriculum, resilience in our students, and pride in our school and strengthen pathways towards better outcomes. We will be using our data and analysis from the previous four years to determine our achievements against the School Strategic Plan goals and targets. From the findings we will be able to set goals, targets and key improvement strategies for the next four years.

There are a couple of important points to note when dropping medication at school for your child: 1. It must be in its original blister pack or bottle. (not in a zip lock bag or Tupperware container) see

image below.

2. The pharmacy label if not on the sheet of tablets you supply must be sighted by the receiving staff

member when dropping it at school. This is to verify the medication is prescribed to that child and

that the dose is correctly listed on the authority form.

3. It is preferred that the medication form is also signed by the prescribing Dr where possible, if not

the prescribing Dr’s name and contact details need to be completed on the form.

4. The commencement date and completion date is on the form.

For ongoing medications this will be reviewed every 6 months.

This section of the form must be checked by the receiving staff member when dropped off at school.

Medication delivered to the school

Please ensure that medication delivered to the school:

Is in its original package

The pharmacy label matches the information included in this form

The above forms are available at the office from today.

Other forms you may need, according to your child’s condition can be found at the end of this

newsletter. Please print in colour and provide to your doctor for completion, then return to the

School Office.

If you have any concerns please contact me between 11am and 2pm to discuss

WORKING BEE

Kalinda PS relies on Working Bees to maintain the extensive grounds that we’re very fortunate to have. We are asking that each family attend at least one Working Bee during the year to help keep the playgrounds and surrounding areas safe and well maintained for our children. Not only are Working Bees an opportunity to contribute to your children’s school, but they are also a great opportunity to meet other parents at the post-Working Bee BBQ. We have scheduled 8 Working Bee dates for 2019, including five Sundays to provide flexibility to families who may have Saturday commitments. Working Bees start at 10am and run for approximately 2 hours. Children are very welcome to attend. A note was sent home this week on lilac paper for completion and return to the office. We ask that these notes be returned by next Friday, 15 February.

NUMERACY NEWS

This week, Kalinda has been very lucky to have Michael Ymer visit us to work with our teachers and

students. Michael is a Numeracy Coach who will be involved in our Maths planning and teaching this

year. The teachers have all had the opportunity to watch Michael at work in a Maths classroom, and

have been planning a very exciting term ahead with him. The teachers will also be working with him

during our Curriculum Day on March 8th.

A Parent Information evening with Michael will be taking place in the very near future, with more

details to follow. This will be a wonderful opportunity for parents to come along to hear about how

we teach Maths at Kalinda.
