Movie Matinee At The Center
Come to our next “Movie Matinee” on Friday, November 17th at 2:00 pm! The movie selection is “Best in Show”, an American mockumentary comedy film from the year 2000. Co-written by Eugene Levy and Christopher Guest, the film follows five entrants in a prestigious dog show. The story focuses on the slightly surreal interactions among the various owners and handlers, as they travel to the show and then compete during the show. Among the comedic aspects of the film are similarities between the personalities and characteristics of the owners and those of their dogs. Much of the dialogue was improvised. Many of the comic actors were also involved in Guest's other films, including This Is Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman, A Mighty Wind, For Your Consideration, and Mascots. We will have fresh hot popcorn for you to enjoy while watching the movie. RSVP to [email protected]
The Calabasas Senior Center is offering “Movie Matinee”, the 3rd Friday of every month starting at 2pm for members. We will show a different classic movie and serve fresh hot popcorn for you to enjoy while watching the film.
To Be or Not To Be!
We are familiar with many of William Shakespeare’s famous quotes: “O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?”, “Neither a borrower nor a lender be”, and “Above all, to thine own self be true”. But, understanding the complex language in the plays of the world’s greatest playwright is another thing. Instructor Anthony Cantrell will lead a course that demystifies Shakespeare’s complex language and brings it to life. His theatrical approach will lift the characters off the page and present them to us as the living, breathing people that Shakespeare intended them to be. The class, Shakespeare's Plays– A Theatrical Approach, takes place on Monday, December 4th from 10:00am to 12:00 noon in Founders Hall, behind the Calabasas Library.
To register, please use code: 7019.401. For more information, call the Calabasas Senior Center: (818) 224-1777.

Have You Heard of 3-D Painting?
“3D Sculptural Painting” is one of the new classes at the Calabasas Senior Center. Taught by master painter and sculptor Beverly Barris, the class combines painting in acrylics with dimensional mediums such as air-dried clay, found objects, and modeling paste. The result is a unique and exciting realistic or abstract 3D Sculptural Painting.
“My purpose is to touch and connect with the human soul through my art. When I feel a rapport and harmony during the physical act of creating, I become one with the work. At this point, I know the truth is being expressed through my heart and soul,” explains Beverly. Raised in New York, Beverly graduated from the Parsons School of Design and has been named in “Who’s Who of American Women”.
She began by painting murals, commissioned paintings and faux finishes in clients’ homes and businesses. Beverly also teaches painting privately. She was the Art Director of Brides Magazine, Creative Director for Viewmaster-Ideal Toy Company, and an illustrator for books and magazines. Her partial client list in-cludes: McDonalds, Walt Disney, Sesame Street, Coca Cola, Avon and Mattel. Beverly has received numerous awards, been shown at prestigious museums and galleries, and her work has been purchased for private collections and auctioned at fundraisers.
