TENBY SCHOOLS, PENANG
Welcome to the November / December Newsletter.
We are coming close to the end of what has proven to be a very busy term for the International
School and year for the National School.
In a well-deserved move, Mr Giles Montier left Tenby Schools, Penang to take up the position
as Campus Principal at Tenby International School Setia Eco Gardens in Johor Baru. We all
congratulate Mr. Giles on this wonderful opportunity in his career and know that he will continue
to work for the betterment of the students in Tenby School JB. His presence around the campus
in Penang will be solely missed as he has been a driving force behind the development of the school from the day he
arrived. While he will no longer be working in Penang, he will not be lost to the Tenby Group.
Mr Richard Lukats has taken over the role as Acting Head of Secondary.
Since September, Tenby Schools, Penang has celebrated many events and milestones, some of which are featured
in the following pages. Of special note was the Sri Tenby Graduation Ceremony and Primary Awards Day, UN Day
celebrations, Deepavali Celebrations, Halloween, the 2nd edition this year of ―Tenby‘s Got Talent‖, Open Day and
the Sri Tenby Secondary Awards Day which was attended by the Tenby Group CEO, Mr Alister Bartholomew.
We are proud of the achievements of all of our students who won awards, and those who gave of their best in their
studies. We are also proud of the efforts and energy the students and staff consistently put into making such events
successful on top of their teaching and learning.
Academically, Tenby Schools, Penang enjoyed their best iGCSE results so far and congratulations is extended to all
of those Year 11 students who worked hard over two
years to achieve the results that they did. A chart of the
2014 iGCSE results indicating the percentage of Tenby
Penang student who achieved 5 or more A* - C results
including English and Mathematics is shown on the right.
Our achievements are listed alongside the Tenby Group
results and results from the UK for comparison. Well
done to all involved.
Additionally, for the first time, 10 students from Sri Tenby
Primary scored 5A‘s in the 2014 UPSR examinations
which is an outstanding result for Mr Cheah and his
team.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all members of the
Tenby community the very best
for the Christmas and New Year
break, and wish them all a happy
and prosperous 2015.
Gregory C Mowday Campus Principal Tenby Schools, Penang Students who have achieved 5A’s in the 2014 UPSR result .

Sri Tenby Primary School Awards Day The day all students have been eagerly waiting for is finally here:- The
Awards Day in Sri Tenby! It was also the graduation ceremony for the
Tenby Kindergarten students. The day has a special significance for the
students. Prizes are awarded to students who worked hard and have
achieved excellence in different subjects in that year. An air of excitement
runs everywhere in the school campus on this special day. The respectable parents were invited to the auspicious occasion. Some
proud parents were invited to give out prizes to the awards recipients. This year the annual prize presentation was held on the 2nd
October. The principal
of Tenby Schools Penang, Mr. Gregory Mowday was invited as a guest of honour.
Mr Mowday gave an impressive opening speech and officiated the event. Next
was the speech by Mr Cheah who read the Annual Report of the school. In the
report he summarized the all-round performance of the students of
the school. He congratulated the prize winners and at the same
time encouraged others to work harder so that they could be prize
winners in future awards day. The ceremony was then followed by
speeches in multiple languages by the
students of Tenby Kindergarten.
In between the prize giving ceremony,
some students performed and entertained the audience with poetry, singing and
dancing. The students showed everyone present that they are not only academically
excellent but are also talented. The audience was certainly entertained by the cute
notions and acting by the Tenby Kindergarten children. Prizes were also handed out to the board of prefects who dutifully served the school
in various aspects. The past year‘s UPSR top achievers were also honoured in this
event. They were specially invited to attend the ceremony in hopes of being role
models to the students present. Prizes were also awarded to the students for regular attendance, for general proficiency, for excellence in sports,
etc. They were cheered and applauded by the audience. The Awards Day of our school was a grand success. The students went back home
proudly with smiles and certificates in their hands.

Sri Tenby Primary School Deepavali Celebration
Deepavali also know as Diwali or Divali
or ―festival of light‖ is an
ancient Hindu festival. The
festival signifies the victory
of light over darkness, good
over evil, knowledge over
ignorance and hope over
despair.
Sri Tenby Primary
School celebrated this
event with an ―Open House‖ This celebration was carried out
in a truly Malaysian spirit with students from different racial
backgrounds participating in the celebration. Students from
different races created the ―kolam‖ or rangoli.
The celebration started with a lighting ceremony. This was
officiated by parents who attended the celebration. After the lighting ceremony,
those present were entertained by performances by the students. There were
songs and poetry recital. An interesting item was presented by Joshua Lee who
acted the part of Lord Krishna. His presentation was humorous and informative.
The pot-luck lunch was very sumptuous and delicious with a wide
variety foods ranging from noodles, pastas , various types of bread,
cakes, doughnuts, tidbits ……. etc. The list is too long to mention.
Everyone present enjoyed the wide variety of foods. Some students
from the other schools joined and also enjoyed the lunch. At the end
everyone had a good and satisfying meal.
We would like to thank parents who graciously attended the function.
Thank you also to those who have contributed the delicious foods and helped to prepare
the students for the presentations. Finally thank you parents for your kind support to
make this celebration a success.

Sri Tenby Secondary School SRI TENBY SECONDARY SCHOOL GRADUATION DINNER
Sri Tenby Secondary School held
the annual graduation dinner on
17 October at the City Bayview
Hotel, to bid farewell to the fifth
formers who will be graduating in
December. Senior management
staff, Mr. Gregory Mowday, Mr.
Giles Montier, Mdm. Thum Lin
Chee, Mr. Cheah Sin Hock, Ms.
Marian Bartlett and Ms. Shirley
graced the function. Naturally our
Sri Tenby teachers and students
turned up in full force.
Group photographs were taken. Then, Mr. Gregory Mowday, the principal
delivered his speech with interesting references from Dr. Seuss‘ books. Mr.
Giles, Mdm. Thum also addressed the students. They gave good advice and
wished the fifth formers all the best as they are about to begin a new chapter
in their lives. The head prefect, Ng Yong Ling, on behalf of the fifth formers,
spoke eloquently on how he enjoyed studying in Sri Tenby and he thanked
teachers for their guidance and support.
The form two students entertained the crowd with lively performances of
songs and music, while the Form 3 students performed the invigorating ‗chicken
dance‘ that had every one in stitches.
In the Best-Dressed Competition, Gerald Fung from Form 4 and Ms. Teh Xing
Yee were declared best dressed male and female respectively.
Lucky Draw prizes were sponsored by generous
parents and private companies. The grand prize
of a foldable bicycle was won by Ryan Lim from
Form 5. Needless to say, he was all smiles.
The highlight of the occasion was the
crowning of the Prom King and
Queen. The winners were none other
than dashing Jeffrey Chew and the
beautiful Teoh Shean Ern. There were
cheers and applause as Mr. Gregory
and Mdm. Thum crowned the Prom King and Queen of 2014!
The dance floor was then thrown open to anyone who had happy feet. The students
had a blast dancing. Unfortunately the night had to end at 11p.m. However, judging
from the happy faces, it was clear that everyone had a great time.

Tenby International Secondary School CHARITY CHALLENGES 2014 My sister, Stefany and I have organised a series
of charity challenges in order to raise money for
the Spastic or Cerebral Palsy Children‘s Centre.
This is part of our project for our charity CCA, the
1% club.
The idea is to have students and staff in school
nominate each other for that month‘s charity
challenge for any amount of money. Nominations
are collected at recess and lunchtime daily. The
top 5 nominees (who have been nominated for
the most amount of money) have to either accept
the challenge or pay the exact amount that has
been donated under their name, and nominate
someone else.
Anyone in TISS and STSS is eligible to nominate or be nominated. So far,
most of our nominees have been rather sporting, accepting our challenges
or paying their way out. Our first challenge was the Kiss the Fish challenge,
which went on in the atrium area on Friday, during lunchtime. This was a
roaring success, with students eagerly nominating each other in the name
of charity.
The second, third and fourth challenges went on with equal enthusiasm, if
not more. They were the Pyjamas Challenge, the Shaving
Cream Pie challenge and the Mr Giles challenge, which
was organised to honour our principal and his work here
before he leaves for Johor Baru.
Our monthly charity challenges will continue until the end of
the term. We certainly hope that the school community will
continue to support us for this worthy cause!
