Companion Animal Volunteer Support (CAVS) Program

Companion Animal Volunteer Support (CAVS) Program

Assisting People and their pets at Home For many people pets are the most important companion in their lives but illness or frailty can make caring for pets too difficult to manage alone. Companion Animal Volunteer Support (CAVS) helps frail older people and people with disabilities to care for their animal companions at home.

Walking the Dog Regular exercise helps keep a dog happy and healthy. If illness, injury or other changes in circumstances prevents an owner from walking their dog, a CAVS volunteer can help.

Washing and Grooming a Pet Reduced strength and mobility in older age can make pet care activities like washing and grooming too hard to manage. CAVS volunteers can assist with day-to-day care of pets such as feeding a cat, cleaning out a bird cage or grooming and washing a dog.

Transporting a Pet CAVS volunteers can also help by transporting pets to the vet when necessary.

How to Apply for CAVS Assistance If because of frailty or disability, require assistance to continue living independently with your pet, you can apply to the Companion Animal Volunteer Support program for help.

To access the service, you must become a Member of Balwyn Evergreen and pay the Annual Membership fee.

To apply for CAVS assistance please contact the CAVS Co-ordinator by calling 9836 9681 or email to [email protected].
