Dear Parents/Caregivers,

On Wednesday night we held a meeting of the Governing Council. During these

discussions a concern was raised about students who are arriving in the morning

then leaving school to go to the Craigmore Shops. Having shops near our school

is very convenient for families, staff and no doubt for our students. However we

don’t want students being brought to school by caregivers and then leaving

school grounds and going to the shops without parent permission.

Once children have entered the school premises in the morning and are no longer in the care of their

caregivers, they are now in the care of the school. This means that the time between 8:30am and

8:45am is no different from any other time of the day and as such children cannot leave the school

grounds unless an adult is with them or special permission is organised.

In general if students want or need to go to the shop to buy food we would expect them to do this

the night before or in the morning before they arrive at school. Once students have arrived at school

they should not be leaving the school grounds for any reason unless a parent or carer collects them

or it is the end of the day and they are returning home.

Students who arrive at school then leave the school grounds to go the shopping centre will have

their caregivers notified and appropriate consequences will be considered.

This will ensure that children are appropriately supervised and that caregivers can be confident

knowing their children are in school.

Caregivers are reminded that we have an excellent school canteen run by Fiona. The canteen

recently had a random health inspection and thanks to Fiona’s hard work, it passed with flying

colours. Parents and carers can be confident that the food sold at our canteen meets the

recommendations outline by the DECD Rite Bite strategy ensuring food is nutritious, of appropriate

serving size and has healthy levels of salt, fat and sugar. We encourage everyone to support the

canteen and the food it serves to our community.

initiative administered by the Office for Recreation and Sport. The

program provides an opportunity for primary school aged children from reception to year 7 to receive

up to $50 discount on sports membership/registration fees. The purpose is to increase the number of

children playing organised sport by reducing the cost barrier to participate in sport. All South Australian

Vouchers can be collected from the Front Office or downloaded at:

http://www.sportsvouchers.sa.gov.au/

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT FOR YOUR CHILD TO ARRIVE AT SCHOOL ON TIME?

There are many benefits your child will gain from arriving on time to school and class.

Did you know?

The likelihood of success in learning is strongly linked to strong participation in school programs

which is linked to arriving on time.

It is very important for children to develop habits of arriving on time at an early age, beginning

from the time they start school.

Some Gains for Your Child.

Arriving On Time for School and Class:

Makes sure that your child doesn’t miss out on the important learning activities that happen ear-

ly in the day when they are most alert.

Early morning learning activity is often reading or writing, your child can lose so many opportuni-

ties to learn these critical life skills.

Helps your child to learn about routines and commitment.

Gives your child time to greet their friends before class and this can reduce the possibility of

disruptions in the classroom.

Class disruption can make your child feel uncomfortable and can upset other children.

Arriving on time every day makes children feel good about themselves

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE IS COOL!

HAVING PROBLEMS GETTING YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL ON TIME?

Are these some reasons why your child does not get to school on time?

Your child won’t go to bed at night or get out of bed in the morning

Your child can’t find their clothes, books, homework, school bag….

The school lunches are not ready

Homework’s not done

Your child is slow to eat breakfast

Your child is watching TV late at night or when they should be getting

ready for school
