mandating the imposition of hundreds of individual residential systems that are costly to maintain and are less effective than a standard sewer system. The blessings we associate with Chanukah and Christmas are accompanied by a time for personal reflection about life lived, and each extends opportunity for rededication to renewal as an individual, as a family member, as a part of a community I wish to express my sincere gratitude and thanks to each of the volunteer officers and directors of the Shinnecock Shores Homeowners Association for their selfless dedication to our community. Together, we also thank our participating property owners for speaking out and offering valuable input. Happy Chanukuh, Merry Christmas, and a safe and prosperous New Year to all, Patrick Skip Heaney, President

Another year, one more December. It is that time of year when endings and beginnings seem to merge. Looking back, our Board of Directors accom-plished a lot of good work maintaining the vitality of Shinnecock Shores. Park improvements and new toddler equipment, new roadway safety features and signage, extensive paving repairs, community bulkhead replacement, our first Earth Day Community Cleanup event, several highly successful community events at the Water Works property, and much more. In 2019, the difficult task of updating our rules and regulation documents will lead to new conversation over a draft update reflecting many of the valuable recommendations offered by community members at prior special information meetings. A new landscape plan and design for a replacement
community announcement bulletin board will be offered as additional improvements at the curve, and roadway drainage structures will have to be considered at several locations along Shinnecock Road. We should also develop a formal plan to improve street lighting throughout Shinnecock Shores. We may be part of the East Quogue Lighting District, yet when compared to other neighborhoods, it is clear that our street lighting infrastructure could be significantly improved. Since our communities have been identified by local, county and state officials as a primary source of nitrogen pollution of Shinnecock Bay, we will also look to join forces with Pinesfield and Pine Neck Landing to encourage the Town of Southampton to commission a feasibility study regarding a potential sewer improvement district for our waterfront communities as an alternative to
the exclusive use of our
organization to communicate with
our Membership. We do not sell,
share or distribute your personal
information with any other
company, individual or
organization.

Roads Ear th Day
Storm Preparedness Seasonal Jobs
The Association plows the roads to a
width sufficient to allow the passage
of private and emergency vehicles.
Homeowners are responsible for
access to their driveways and
mailboxes and should not park
vehicles on SSA roads when snow is
forecasted. Storing vehicles, trailers
or boats on SSA roads is prohibited.
Also remember that you are not
permitted to have leaves accumulate
on the street edge as this impedes
our ability to plow the street to its
proper width.
There should be no postings on SSA
property, especially on the new
entrance walls and gate house. Nails,
tape and other products will damage
the cedar. Also signs with metal
spikes have damaged our water lines
at the front entrance. If damage is
done, you will be required to pay for
any repairs.
When major storms occur, many of
our residents deal with flooding.
During these situations, we will open
up the Water Works area so residents
can park their cars. This parking will
be temporary and we will send out a
Calling Post announcement alerting
everyone. When parking there,
please park in the designated area and
insert a sign on your windshield
indicating your SSA address and
phone number.
The Association is looking for help. During the winter
we are in need of help plowing our roads. The plow
must have 2 operators at all times. We will train
people on the specifics needed. This employment
pays $20/hour and requires a valid NYS driver’s
license. Also we are looking for teenagers 14 years or
older to rake the beaches during the late spring,
summer and early fall. Additionally, we are seeking
older high school and/or college tech-savvy students to
run the Wednesday night movies. These opportunities
pay $15/hour.
Please contact SSA by phone, email or US
mail if interested.
Early this fall the roadwork at the turn and
Water Works was completed. Both
improvements have helped to reduce
speeds along Shinnecock Road. The
crosswalk at the Water Works has also
improved the safety for our children as
they cross the road at the bus stop. Thank
you to all who participated in the Road
Committee.
The Board and Beautification Committee plan to
have our 2nd Earth Day Clean Up day towards the end of April. The Board will send out a
Calling Post closer to the date. Any and all help
is appreciated. Last year, we were able to clean the playground, beaches and the point at
Whiting/Bonita. It made quite a difference. The
Board hopes to see you there.

When contacting the Board, please do not expect an immediate response, as it takes time
to process all correspondence. Remember Board Members are not always available due to
their own work and personal vacation time. We appreciate your consideration in this
