Coronavirus Update: Please read ‘for the safety of our
community and the wider public’ notice from the
Department for Education in this newsletter
Thanks to all the families and friends that came to the
Harmony Day Assembly. It was fantastic to see so many
people there. I think we would have had around 200 people
in the hall to support the kids which is wonderful. It looked
amazing to see a sea of colour predominantly orange with
staff and students wearing their colours. Well done Mr C on
coordinating a whole school dance. It was lots of fun, lots
of energy and brought about a sense of harmony and getting
along. Even though he terrified the parents who weren’t
sure what was going to happen it seemed everyone enjoyed
it very much. Thanks to Mrs A for coordinating our
balloons, beautiful hand flowers that looked absolutely
stunning in the garden and by the oval. See the pictures
attached.
Thanks to class teachers for taking the time and care to do
them with their students. The shared lunch on the oval was
lovely and a great atmosphere of togetherness.
Classes will continue with Harmony Day and Anti Bullying
and Harassment activities over the next week.
It really is a busy time of the term with Aquatics on Friday
the 13th
for our year 6/7 students and swimming R to 5
next week. Please ensure clothes have labels and children
have bags to carry them in. Swimming week causes lots of
changes to programs, timetables, break times and programs
and we thank everyone for their flexibility during this
week.
External School Review
In Week 2 of next term our school will undergo an External
Review. The last time we were reviewed was in 2016. All
public schools in the State are now reviewed every 3 years.
The review team will listen to a presentation from our
leadership team, and will interview staff, parents from the
Governing Council and students to talk about the school’s
improvement journey and learning. The review team then
helps the school decide future directions that will continue
to improve teaching and learning. A report will be provided
to the school community and will be placed on our website.
The report from our last review is currently on the school
website.
Teacher Parent Interviews
We have reviewed our reporting procedures and this year
teacher parent interviews will be held in Term 2 instead of
Term 1. At the interviews your child or children’s reports
will be distributed and this will give the teachers a chance
to talk to you about your child’s / children’s grades and
their next steps for their learning. You will receive another
report in Term 4 that will be given out with class placement
letter. You may at any stage make an appointment time
with your child or children’s teacher/s to discuss their
progress or any social and emotional issues.

For the safety of our community and the wider public, the Department for Education has implemented the following measures to support the
containment of COVID-19.
Current advice on self-isolation and staying at home In-line with Commonwealth advice, the current advice from the South Australian Department for Education for parents, students and staff is:
Any student or staff member who has travelled in or transited through mainland China, Iran, South
Korea or Italy must self-isolate for 14 days after leaving the high risk country.
Close contacts of a confirmed case of COVID-19 must self-isolate for 14 days since last contact with
the confirmed case.
All returned travellers who develop symptoms (especially fever and cough) within 14 days of returning from anywhere overseas should seek testing for COVID-19, and self-isolate while awaiting test results.
Any confirmed case of COVID-19 will be excluded from school/childcare/the workplace until they
are medically cleared to return.
Students and staff who have returned to Australia from anywhere else overseas and have no
symptoms are able to return to school or work.
Consistent with current guidelines, all children, students and staff who are unwell with respiratory illness should remain at home until symptoms resolve. Visit the SA Health website for more information on home isolation. In the event of a confirmed case, the site will be closed for a minimum of 24 hours and children will need to be picked up immediately. Closure will allow public health officials to identify and notify any close contacts and advise on treatment and self-isolation. The site will also be subjected to a thorough clean. It will only reopen on the advice of health experts and when it is safe to do so.
Hygiene standards
Personal hygiene and the hygiene standards in our schools and preschools are critical to reducing the risk of infection. All children and staff must be encouraged to:
wash their hands regularly, particularly after using the toilet and before eating
avoid spreading infections to others by staying home if they are unwell
cover a cough or sneeze with a tissue
If your child is presenting any of these symptoms they will be sent to the Front Office. As a precaution a phone call will be made to send them home.

Harmony day 2020 Harmony Day is a celebration of diversity and coming together. At Salisbury Heights Primary School we pride ourselves on welcoming, celebrating and learning from all of our families that come from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds. We have Harmony Day a week early due to Swimming Week but children will be participating in activities over the next two weeks. This will also tie in with The National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. Mr C facilitated the Harmony Day assembly to open the day and it gave the whole day a really positive feel. Classes worked hard to complete their class sets of HARMONY HANDS that were planted across the school and made our school look bright and cheery. We had a shared lunch on the oval as a school - which was a lovely way to celebrate together. Amber Arruzzolo Student Wellbeing Leader

START UP MONTH IN
ROOM 6- YEAR 2 The last 6 weeks have been so busy in Room 6 and around the school. As teachers we
have been learning as much as we can about our students, setting up routines and
developing a positive class culture. The students of Room 6 have been learning to Get
Along and be Organised and Persistent with their learning. They have leant how a Growth
Mindset can help them learn and how to stand up to bullies in a calm assertive way.
Here are some of the interesting things we have been up to.
