Quote of the Week: “No one has ever become poor by giving.” ― Anne Frank
Welcome to our new
Admin Staff A warm welcome to both Mrs
Catherine Hankinson and Mrs
Thembi Pain who will be
sharing the School Admin
Manager’s role until the end of
Term 1 of 2020. Catherine has
a wealth of experience in
school finance and will be in
on Mondays, Tuesdays and
Wednesdays and Thembi who
is also an experienced SAM
and will be in the role on
Thursdays and Fridays.
CPR & Anaphylaxis Training Over the next couple of weeks, Bilambil staff will update their
departmental requirement to be current with both CPR and
supporting anaphylaxis. The first session yesterday afternoon
(Tuesday 27 August) was excellent with everyone
demonstrating competency in their understanding of the most
current anaphylaxis procedures and CPR requirements,
including use of the AED (Automatic External Defibrillator).
The same is anticipated for the second session in two week’s
time.
Mr Davis’s Tips for Happy Kids Tip Number 9. Happy Parents
Children are naturally happy and optimistic when their world is
running smoothly. Happiness, joy and optimism are reinforced
by the important adults in their world.
If parents are unhappy or stressed and worried a lot of the time,
children feel it and may start to mimic some of the behaviours
modelled by the adults.
It’s from parents that children learn how to build happy,
respectful relationships with others, including their siblings and
it’s very much a “do as I do” kind of teaching. When parents
bicker and fight, that’s how their children may start to behave
towards siblings and others.
When parents resolve conflict in a healthy way or cope with
difficult times with a positive attitude, children will likely mimic
this behaviour when they are faced with their own problems or
conflicts.
We are currently taking
Kindergarten enrolments for
2020.
If you have a child that will be
attending this school next year
or you know any children of
family, friends or neighbours
that will be attending next
year please contact our office
to organise an enrolment
package.

How exciting…… only one month to go!
SAVE THE DATE!!!! Yes, it is very exciting to announce that Bilambil Public School
will be running another Colour Run this year! Due to the
enormous amount of fun we all had at our last 2 events, we
have decided to run it again this year!
Although the event will not take place until the last day of Term
3, we would like to bring to your attention the cost involved for
running such an event. The cost this year will be $5.00 per
student, so kids start saving! You could help mum or dad take
out the rubbish, sweep the floor or even clean your room to
start earning some pocket money.
Notes and more information will go out later this term.

Professional Learning for BPS Teaching &
Learning Support Staff - iOTF6
On Sunday 18 August, 2019
the teachers and learning
support staff from Bilambil
Public School attended the
annual I On The Future (iOTF6)
Conference to engage with
inspiring educational leaders.
The theme of the conference
was “There Is More In Us Than
We Know”.
The 300 attendees were from
all over the world and keynote
speeches were presented by
Ron Berger and Scott Hartl
who are at the centre of EL
Education. We also heard
from Murat Dizdar, the Deputy
Secretary, School Operations
and Performance for the NSW
Department of Education.
Another keynote was
presented by John Larmer and
Suzie Boss who spoke about
PBL (Project Based Learning)
and the day was completed
with an incredibly powerful
keynote speech from Bernie
Shakeshaft, Rusty and James
Knight who spoke about the
BackTrack Youth Works
program. It was an inspiring
day which has led to deep
discussions about future
directions for our classrooms
and our school as a whole.
A huge thank you to the staff
who gave up their Sunday to
attend the conference. There
really is more in every single
one of us than we know.

The school would like to invite students, parents/carers and family members to
our annual School Community Breakfast on Friday, 20th September 2019. The
feast will start at 7:30am and aims to bring all of us together in a relaxed
environment to have a chat. This will also serve as our informal Parent Teacher
Interviews for the term.

KT are loving our
new ‘jelly bean’
table! It is such a
great resource for
our group work in
class, even Miss
Danielle loves it!
KT are learning Oztag this term. The students are enjoying
learning the key skills and working together as a team!
We have been exploring
different ways to learn. Here’s
KT working hard on their
Soundwaves under the cola.
We have been learning about
Dinosaurs this term. KT’s STEM
challenge was to build an
environment suitable for
Dinosaurs.

Our first ever CHAPPY WEEK It was a great week! We started with continuous
handball on Monday recess and then lunch as
well, as so many wanted to challenge me. Good
times! Tuesday Mufti day was a blue and white hit.
The doggies beat Parra in an upset so I think we
need a blue and white mufti day every week! Plus
Hamburger Tuesday. What a response! 96 delicious
hamburgers were made. The Canteen Kitchen
Rules team did such a fantastic job. Here’s a shout
out to our little master chefs Azi, Dee Dee, Lara
and Ava from 3/4M who worked like champions,
plus my girls who came up to help at lunch. I’ll be
in 1/2H this Friday. We raised $560.00 towards the
chaplaincy programs. Thank you Bilambil families
for your support.
Boot Camp Boot Camp with a mix or Survivor and Rock and
Water. We are testing the mind as well as their
physical capabilities. They are having to work
together to accomplish tasks. The Year 6 boys are
starting to get it and hopefully the Year 4 boys will
follow suit.
Canteen Kitchen Rules The new group has been cooking for two weeks
and have started with a bang. Not the kitchen
exploding, don’t worry Danelle! Week One was a
double batch of Spaghetti Bolognaise for Jarrod
Menin’s family. With the girls coming from his
class, they were very excited to help him and his
family out. Then last week was burger week.
Seasons for Growth Another group has started and we have 9 students
joining us for this great grief and loss course. I’m
blown away by their openness and honesty. We
have already started going deep and they know
the more they open up then the more healing that
takes place for them. I’m really looking forward to
seeing their progress over the time.
Until the next exciting edition of the Chappy
Chapter.

We love our Dads Wishing all our dads, granddads, step-dads and important male
role models in our lives a very happy Father’s Day this weekend.
We hope you enjoy the little gifts your children have bought
home from our stall this week. We know how much thought and
care the kids put in to selecting them for you. A big thank you
to co-ordinator Lou and her merry band of volunteers for setting
up shop!
No Brekky Club Please be aware that there will be no Brekky Club this week
(Monday 26 to Friday 30 August, 2019) or next Monday to
Friday 6 September, 2019), as lovely Lynn is away and
unfortunately our canteen volunteers are a rare and precious
breed. Don’t worry though as Brekky Club will be back from
Monday 9 September 2019. Breakfast is a really important part
of a child’s day as it fuels their brain after a long overnight fast
while they are sleeping so please encourage your children to
eat a healthy breakfast before they get to school this week and
next.
Net-Tastic News Our new grass netball courts are being marked and the posts
are going in! Very soon the kids will be able to practice their
goal shooting and defence at play times. Initiatives like this
happen because of suggestions from parents and fundraising
by your P&C. If you want to help us get more of the fantastic
things our kids want and need, come along and have your say,
lend us a hand volunteering or support our fundraising efforts.
Every little bit you do goes towards the end goal (see what I did
there).
Mad about Mangoes? Good news for Mango lovers. We’re offering a sweet deal of a
whole tray of North QLD Bowen Mangoes for just $30. Spread
the word, we’ll be accepting orders for all families and friends
of Bilambil Public School. A note will be coming home about it
on Monday.
The Bunnings BBQ is Back! Save the date: Saturday 30 November 2019 is our lucky day.
Slots on the Bunnings BBQ fundraiser are hard to come by and
we are very fortunate to have been offered a sausage sizzle on
that day outside the Bunnings store. It is always a very successful
day and our families who volunteer have a lot of laughs.
Please, if you can spare an hour or two on the day to help us
set up, cook, serve, shop or pack up please let us know!
Next Meeting Join us for our next meeting on
Monday 9 September, 2019
commencing at 3.15pm in the
staff room. All welcome.
Second Hand
Jumpers and Hats The clothing fairies have been
through the overflowing lost
property box outside the
library and returned all items
with names on them. However
there were lots of jumpers,
hats and other items that had
no home to go to so they are
now in our second hand
supply at the Uniform Shop. It’s
a good chance to grab a
bargain so why not pop in one
morning when the uniform
shop is open and see what’s
available.
Safety First Please please please think of
our children when you are
running a little late for work
and DON’T take an illegal
right hand turn out of our Kiss
and Drop area AT ANY TIME.
There have been a number of
near misses there with children
and other vehicles. For the
sake of an extra 60 seconds
you could go down around
the roundabout and be on
your way. A U-turn over the
double lines near the bus zone
is no safer. It’s ONE MINUTE of
your time but it could save a
life.
