BUUICNewStudentsSailstoSuccess

Ms.KamonwanChanyim,BUUICFreshman,recentlyparticipatedintheprestigiousinternationalsailingevent,theYouthWorldSailingChampionships,heldinTavira,Portugal.

Moreover,thequalificationstookplaceinSantander,SpainfromJuly1–July8.ShewassponsoredbytheSpainSailors’association.Duetoherexcellentskills,sheperformedwell,andwasabletoqualifyforthemainevent,theYouthWorldSailingChampionships,whichhappenedbetweenJuly12-18.Thiswasthefourthtimeforthiscompetition.Remarkably,outofatotalofforty-sixparticipatingnations,shehadthehonorofrepresentingthekingdomofThailand,placedtwelfth.Notonlythat,butamongtheAsiannations,sheplacedfirst.ForthiscompetitionshewassponsoredbyKingdomProperty.

NextuponhersailingadventuresisqualificationsfortheOlympics,whichwillbeheldinSpain,andtheAsianGames,inSouthKorea.

BUUICProvidesTrainingforBhutaneseGovernmentOfficers

BUIICrecentlyconductedanAdministrationandFinancialManagementTrainingCourseforgovernmentofficersfromtheMinstryofEducation,theKingdomofBhutan.Thetraining,whichwasheldonJuly6-19,2014,wasattendedbyagroupofBhutanesegovernmentofficers:DashoKarchungTshering,CAO,Mr.ChimmiTshewang,Sr.P.O.,MinistryofEducation,andMr.ShyamKumarRai,FinanceOfficer,MinistryofEducation.Thetrainingconsistedofavarietyofinstructionalactivitiesincludinglectures,discussionsandastudyvisit.AlltheparticipantswerepresentedwithacertificateattheconclusionofthetrainingandinadditionreceivedawarmwelcomefromAssoc.Prof.RanaPongruengphant,DeanoftheInternationalCollege,alongwithBUUICinstructorsandstaff,

Thissemesterstudentsarebeing introducedtotheworldofauthenticRussiancuisine includingactualRussianrecipes.InourRussianrecipescookbookstudentsfindagreatnumberofpalatabledishes(hors-d’oeuvres,maincourses,desserts,beveragesetc.)fromancienttimestothepresent.WithourhelpnowinThailandeveryonecantasteandfindouttheoriginofmanypopularethnicdishessuchasRussian,Ukrainian,Byelorussian,Georgian,Armenianandothercuisines.Weinviteyoutojoinusandlistentoourstoriesoveracupoftea.

FromoldentimesbreadinRussiawasevidenceofhardwork,prosperityandfortune.GuestswerewelcomedwithRussianbread,holidaytablesweredecoratedwithdeliciousruddypies;pancakesweretheattributeofawinterseeing-off.Breadiseverything’shead,saysaRussianproverb.RussianbreadhasalwaysbeenconsideredasthewealthoftheRussianpeople.Giveusourdailybread.TheroleofbreadinthelifeoftheRussianpeoplewassogreatthatfaminesbeganinthecountryduringbadharvestyearsdespitethefactthatintheRussianwoodstherewasplentyofgameandtheriversteemedwithfish.Butasnumeroussourcesrecorded,meatcouldnotreplacebreadfortheRussians.

ImagineyouareatouristkeenonRussiancuisine.Whatwouldyoutastefirst?Borsch,ofcourse!Inmyexperience,borschistheuniquecombinationofbeets,vegetableandallkindsofmeats.Itsslightlysourtasteandrichmeatslices;thiskindofsoupissupposedtobecookedbyyourgrandmother,themostgenerousandprofessionalcookinthefamily.Ihavenevermetpeoplewhodaredtorefuseagoodportionofsteamingborschwithacaptivatingsmellofsweethometraditions.AtlaststudentshavelearnedtocookandservethesedeliciousRussianfoodsintheBUUICkitchenfacilitiesonthe6thfloor.Everyoneiswelcometocomeandenjoyandtastethesewonderfuldishes.

MonitoringStudentsinCooperativeEducationforSummer2014

BetweenJuly13-15,2014,Mr.SamartPlangpramool,AssociateDeanforStudentAffairsandChairpersonoftheInternationalTourism&HotelManagementProgramwithMr.ParinyaNakpathom,afull-timeBUUICinstructorandmajoradvisoroftheInternationalTourism&HotelManagementProgramvisitedKamalayaKohSamuiWellnessSanctuary&HolisticSpaResort,LeMeridianKohSamuiResort&Spa,andalsotheSheratonKrabiBeachResort.ThepurposeofthevisitwastomonitortheprogressofthoseBUUICstudentsparticipatingastraineesinacoop-erativeeducationprogram.ThestudentswerecomprisedofaThaiandfiveIndonesianstudentswhoareenrolledaspartofthedoubledegreesprogramwithSekolahTinggiPariwisata(STP)Trisakti,Jakarta.Allthestudentswerehandlingtheirjobsverywellandhadreceivedvariouscomplimentsfromsupervisors,otherhoteladministratorsandguests.

FieldTripInternationalBusinessandEconomicChange

Summer2014sawthefirsteditionofBUUIC’snewsubject“InternationalBusinessandEconomicChange”.DedicatedtoourBachelorofArtsstudents,thecourseaimstoprovideourstudentswithabetterunderstandingoftheeffectsofinternationaltradeonThailand’seconomyandgrowth. Fordecades,theKingdomhasbeendevelopingastrongstrategyofExportPromotionandForeignDirectInvestmentsSupport(FDI).ThesuccessoftheFDIprogramhasleadthousandsofforeigncompaniestoinvestinThailand,bringingcapital,expertiseandtechnologiestothecountry. Onthe10thofJuly2014,Prof.LaurentDevosandagroupofBUUICstudentshadthehonortobereceivedbyK.ChutimaPhumsrisawat,ExecutiveDirectoroftheOfficeoftheBoardofInvestment(BOI).K.ChutimaPhumsrisawatgavethemaveryinterestingpresentationregardingBOIpoliciesandThailand’sstrategytostaycompetitivebyattractingFDItocoincidewiththeopeningofASEAN. StudentswerealsoshowntheservicesoftheOSOS:“OneStartOneStop!”.TheOSOSisaonestopserviceofficelocatedintheheartofBangkok,helpingentrepreneurswiththeopeningoftheirbusinessandtheirregistrationwithallgovernmentagenciesfromCustomstotheRevenueDepartment-thisserviceisalsoavailabletoourThaistudentsshouldtheysomedaydecidetocreatetheirowncompanyandmakethebigjumpintoentrepreneurship! BUUICwillcontinuetobringrealworldbusinessexperiencetoitsstudents,thebestwaytomakethemreadyfortheirfuture!
