NEWSLETTER PUBLISHING THE MINISTRY OF MOUNT PISGAH CHURCH, MAY 2017 Friends, Thank you for being so gracious dur- ing my 1st Easter at Mt. Pisgah Church by trying new services & ministries. Many of you noted that your Lenten season moved you closer to Christ. I celebrate with you in your journey! I appreciate all of the Mt. Pisgah music groups for all their extra work which blessed so many. It was also a blessing to be a part of my first ELP Sunday. The “Power of a Dream” that Rev. Herb Penry had 35 years ago that has helped 155 Ministers by alleviating their financial burden is truly mind-boggling. It has been an honor, also, to celebrate the life of Dave Roberson on Saturday, April 29th. He was faithful and attended The Mount service with his wife and two children. April 29th also saw two huge fundrais- ers, the Walk for Life and the ELP Golf Tour- nament. These two fundraisers have over a 100 people from Mt. Pisgah participating. Mt. Pisgah is truly a giving church! On May 7th, I have invited my friend, Bruce Hedrick, to lead the music at The Mount worship service. He is a Country Mu- sic Artist and has several top hits on the Bill- board. This will be a blessing while our own praise band will be in Atlanta, GA. Please, keep them in your prayers. That Sunday, I will be preaching on “The Power of Positive Thinking.” Aſter wor- ship, I will be flying to St. Louis, MO to the attend the Large Church Initiative, of which I am a board member. The conference will be held at Christ Church, (Fairview Heights, IL) one of the fastest-growing UMC churches in the nation. CELEBRATING THE RISEN SAVIOR @ MT. PISGAH

Beginning early in the Holy Week, the Church gathered to celebrate, reach out, testify and worship.

On Tuesday, April 11th, the Mission Network gathered at Irving Park UMC where Rev. Donald Thomas of Mt. Pisgah coordinated the meal and his musical group, Soldiers Again Trio ministered to the over 80 participants. A special thanks to the Mt. Pisgah volunteers who helped to set up, serve and clean up. The very next day, in The Mount Worship, Pastor Donald once again ministered through the dramatic monologue, “The Cross Builder.” The worship space was full and an additional 500+ viewers watched the worship service on “Facebook Live.” Pastor Jeff gave an invitation to annoint with oil those who desired wholeness. A special offering was taken and $780 was collected for UMCOR.

Bright and early on Thursday morning, the 13th of April, members of the church community gathered at the flagpole to pray and then proceeded to walk seven

miles to the Greensboro Urban Ministry carrying the cross of Jesus Christ as a witness to our faith and our investment in the needs of the Greensboro Community. Over 50 people of all ages and abilities participated in the walk, and Mount Pisgah Church was featured on the 4:00 o'clock news that Thursday.

Friday brought the traditional Good Friday Service, when we gather in worship and remembrance of the horrific death of our Savior Jesus Christ. It was a service of the Word, Hymns and Sacrifice. A special offering was taken and our community gave $760 to the International Justice Mission to invest in the eradication of human trafficking worldwide.

Finally, early Sunday morning, we declared that the grave was empty, the stone rolled away and that our Savior, Jesus Christ was alive! What an Easter celebration it was! Our Sunrise Service was full and breakfast served by our United Methodist Men was a joy! Our three regular worship services saw our community come together in praise of the Risen King!

Thank you to all who participated in our Holy Week events and worship. It is our prayer that you were blessed and took with you the presence of Christ who would not be defeated by death!

We look forward to walking with you through this continued Easter Season as the Church raises its eyes and watches for the movement of the Holy Spirit each and every day.

...(CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1) On May 21st, I have invited Chief Reynard Faber from Dulce, NM to share with us at all ser-vices in the morning. That evening, there will be a church-wide cookout beginning at 5:00pm with a special worship service starting at 6:30pm. Chief Faber is a Liberty University graduate and has traveled the world preaching the Gospel. He has been on staff with Samaritan’s Purse since 2002. Currently, he is the Native American Coordinator for Operation Christmas Child. He is full Apache, speaks the language fluently, and is a direct descendant of Geronimo. I first met Chief on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. At the evening service, he will be giving his testimony about how he gave his life to Jesus. Come, expecting miracles. On May 28th, I will be preaching at the Rev. George Coates’ churches in Greensboro (Laugh-lin Memorial & Newlyn Street). The Rev. Donald Thomas will be preaching all services at Mt. Pis-gah that morning. Finally, it is a great pleasure to inform you that the Bishop of the Western North Carolina Conference has announced the 2017-2018 pastoral appointments for Mount Pisgah Church. I will be appointed to begin my 2nd year here, the Rev. Donald Thomas will be appointed to begin his 7th year at Mount Pigah, and the Rev. Kim Miller will be officially appointed to her 1st year here at Mount Pisgah. God is good.

PROVERBS 2:1-5 “My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turn-ing your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding—indeed, if you call out for

insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.”

Dear Mount Pisgah Church Family,

Thank you all for your love and support during my son John’s recent hospital stay and convalescence, following his accident. He is growing stronger daily, and, I too, have been sustained by your prayers and love. Most especially, I would like to thank Percy Ann and Ginger for the many hours they each sat with me and for the many rides to and from the hospital and nursing home. Ministers Jeff and Donald, your support and encouragement lightened my heart during this difficult time.

Love in Christ, Marie RossMount Pisgah Church Family,

A HUGE "thank you" to all the attendees and especially the helpers at the Poor Man's Supper that was held in March! It was a success because of your participation.

Kathy White

Mt. Pisgah Church,

"Thanks"—It seems such a small word...for all you've done! Your donation to the prayer group would make Shirleyann so happy. Thank you. I personally thank everyone at Mt. Pisgah who supported me in my love and support for Shirley. Her memorial service was wonderful thanks to the help of many members of the church Shirley loved so dearly.

Sincerely, Carol Freeman (Shirley's step-daughter)
