These types of activities can be quite daunting; however they are invaluable learning experiences that the students will remember for a very long while. The extra responsibilities of packing and carrying your own bag, trying new foods, sleeping away from home and traveling long distances are definitely challenging but also character building. Please be positive and encouraging to help your child on this excursion. We understand it can be a worrying time for mums and dads as well but the teachers accompanying your children will take the very best care of them and contact you if there are any concerns. Earlier this term the staff engaged in some very motivating Professional Learning about writing. They have already utilised some of the ideas into the classroom writing activities. One of the focus areas was teaching the students to begin their writing with a “sizzling start”. The students have been working really well and we are so excited about the results that we wanted to share some of the students writing with you each newsletter. So enjoy reading our Sizzling Starts and ask your child about what they are learning. I firmly believe if we discuss, value and show enthusiasm about our children’s writing we will continue to see improvement. I am concerned about some of the reports about the inappropriate behaviour on our school buses. Whilst this is difficult for us to monitor from school the children are still expected to adhere to our PBL values of Respect, Responsibility and Personal Best. If this negative type of behaviour continues and is reported to us by the bus company a child can be excluded from catching the bus, especially if the behaviour can lead to unsafe situations. I encourage you to speak to your child about bus rules and safety. I appreciate your support in this matter. As part of Departmental regulations all visitors to the school must sign on immediately upon arrival and departure, this supports the school’s WHS requirements and ensures the safety of everyone in the event of an Emergency Evacuation or Lockdown situation. I appreciate your understanding in this matter. Our Bounce Tennis Program has started this week and has been well received by the students. Due to a funding grant from Sporting School, the five week program will only cost $2.50! That works out at 50c a lesson! So make sure if you haven’t paid, you get that money in. Thank you to Mr Foster and Mrs Mungoven for their work organising the funding grant and sourcing this fantastic program for our students. Sport choice payment must be finalised by this Friday. Stage 3 Bathurst Excursion—Final payments are due by Friday 23rd September, 2016. Please keep payments coming in. Our School Web Page www.branxton-p.schools.nsw.edu.au GOOD NEWS Parents will be able to access any missed notes on our website. There is a tab at the top of the web page where parents can get access to scanned notes. You can also pay accounts online with your credit card under ‘Make a Payment’ tab DVD of School Concert A envelope will go home today for you to order a DVD of School Concert. Cost of DVD $25. Please fill in the envelope, place money inside envelope and return to school office. BOCARS—School Concert Reminder for parents to send in permission note and $5 for the school concert. The $5 concert contribution will go towards the cost of organising such an event, such as costumes and props.

Tell Them From Me Parent Survey We want your feedback! Our school will also be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey is conducted entirely online at home or on public computers. The survey will typically takes 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey must be completed by 16 October. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, however, your responses are very much appreciated. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents A link to the survey will be emailed to you. If you do not receive this link please email the school [email protected] and we will forward it to you.

Sizzling starts for the newsletter: Deep in the dark, gloomy forest there was a boy call Lynx. He was alone. “Hoot, hoot, hoot!” There were swirling trees and poison toads. The trees were whispering at him. He screamed! By Aden S Psssssssss! The fumes of paint shoot pain and nausea through my head like a bullet. I spray the head of the snake when I hear sirens. How did they find me again? I can’t get caught I thought. I jump to reach for the crack in the wall and hold on. I’ve done it before, I can do it again. I jump, rest my foot on a bump. OK. That was easy. As I climb up I can hear the policeman shouting at me to get down, but I don’t listen. I keep climbing the wind licks my head. I slip. I can’t die. But what if I do? Isabella F Ka-Boom! It was here. A big purple monster came running in my room. It had goowey dribbly red lips with slobber crawling down. Its hands like a ghost. I didnt want to go near its hair, it was as spikey as a cactus. Its mouth kept dribberling. His teeth were as yellow and rotten as a yellow piece of paper. His snot was running like Katherine Skinner in the Olympics. By Emily E The sharp, hairy, big, fat, yellow eye, rotten, teeth, hairy, hair, green nose, red, sloppy lip stick. It came to my home and his eyes were poking out like a steam train. It was REALLY funny. Then we went out to the park to have some lots of fun. Then we went home to have some breakfast. Then we played the xbox360 in my bedroom. Then we went to bed and played the xbox again. By Ryan B.

Whoooosh went the Alistars and Charlie he's and the tall men. The cat through the air and landed with a bump. By Emilia H

"Look out! Catch that cricket ball. It's going to hit you in the head, it's aiming for your face!" By Lara M

The farmer couldn't believe his eyes. Suddenly, the cows were balloons! They were huge! By Ayvah H

I am so excited and I cannot wait. Today is the Book Week Parade! I am going as Spiderman. My cos-tume is red and black. By Jensen H.

I sat in my warm, safe house on my chair holding my giant, green violin like a newborn baby. Starring out the glass window, dreaming of the day me and my new violin would become world famous musi-cians. BANG! WOOSH! The heavy metal door flew open and a whole forest of leaves and twigs barged in. "The wind is picking up faster than Usain Bolt can run the 100 metres," my panicked neigh-bour screeched, "Take cover!" she yelled as roughly twenty big rocks smashed into my house. It all went black. What had happened to y violin? By Lucy S

SWAAAAAAARRRKRKKKKKK! IT WAS COMING.....my mortal enemy that I had nothing against. My ancestors were scared. My family is too. It was no use to run. It would catch up too quickly. I could feel the beating of the air from its wings from metres above. Like a race car zooming around the track. Then... everything goes black, but i know that i am still alive because i can feel my blood trickling through my fur. By Lily A
