In an ever changing world as we have today, staff development is the key. Lacking thisdevelopment will put a burden on our future as a society. Even educators with years ofexperience tend to fall into a rut. It’s natural human instinct to stagnate. A refresher courseor learning something new can benefit all teachers, whether their focus is the refinement ofcontent area teaching skills or moving into a new area of study.

In a university, multiple arduous roles are undertaken by administration to facilitate andsupport faculty in acquisition of new learnings. Facilitators, organizers, and sponsors joinhands to make learning environments like workshops, seminars, symposia, conferences, discussion sessions etc. a reality that brings them to a common cause of progressing forward. These environments, though maybe confined at boundaries of brick and mortar, are actuallynew portals that open gateways to information and tools to be integrated and reflected inteaching methodologies in classes at universities. They could be termed as continuingprofessional development units within a university.

Teachers, administration officers and operational staff members, at BUITEMS, have shownimprovement in their understanding of university processes by virtue of attending suchworkshops. It has been observed that these attendees, many at times, immerse themselvesin what is new and current to better the lives and education of our students—any university’svital stakeholder. “Value addition” is the enhancement that BUITEMS students have achievedas a result of their ever new learning experience through these seminars, workshops etc.

The importance of learning new skills is realized once these workshops inculcateimprovement. These minuscule scale educational environments make their attendees to showwhat to do rather than dictating it. These environments foster skills like listening, communicating, experience, care and concern to and for all human assets on which anyuniversity capitalizes for growth and development. BUITEMS construes it as an investmentin the career, personal, and educational life of its human resource. The return on thisinvestment starts rising once human assets invest their learned skills back to the University.
