From the Principal’s Desk
Welcome!
From Monday 12 August, Ms Cathy Willis will take over as Principal of Albany Primary School.
Students, staff and community have been incredibly supportive of the school during our
Principal transition. As a result, there have been staffing changes and I would like to take the
opportunity to thank the following staff;
Ms Sarah Eley for relishing the opportunity and doing a fantastic job as Deputy Principal. Ms Eley will resume
her role with Room 23 next week.
Mrs Sue White and Mrs Louise Gardner for working with Room 23 during this time. Both teachers have done
amazing work with the class.
This week we also welcomed Mr Adam Beard and Ms Belinda Stonehouse to Albany Primary School. Adam will take
over as the teacher for Room 9 for the remainder of the term, while Ms Stonehouse will support the class as an
Education Assistant for the next four weeks. Additionally, we welcome students Sally Ford in Room 3 and Jessica de
Vos in Room 6, for the duration of their practicum.

Positive Behaviour Support - PBS
Our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) team have been
working hard to create a logo for our expected behaviours
of Respect, Include, Safety, Excellence ... RISE! The final
product is a combination of student and staff ideas. Each
expected behaviour has its own logo and when they are
overlayed we get the magnificent logo you see here. In the
coming weeks, you will start to see this logo displayed on
signage around the school and featured with our school
logo on different publications. Congratulations to the
students, staff and PBS Team on this fantastic
achievement.
Class Learning Journey Term 3
This term, teachers will open up their classroom doors for a Learning Journey in Week 8 or 9. The purpose of a
Learning Journey is for parents and carers to sit alongside their child/ren and share in what they have learnt and
discovered. Attached to this newsletter is an updated Term Planner which has the scheduled dates for each class
Learning Journey. We encourage everyone to come along and enjoy this experience.
Regards Mr Reece Smith, Principal
The Albany Primary School staff and community would like to thank Mr Reece Smith (Principal) and Ms Sarah Eley
(Deputy) for the amazing job they have both done in these two roles for the majority of Term 2 up to the end of this
week.
Mr Smith has organised and managed staffing, continued with curriculum development within the school, liaised with
outside agencies, presented at P&C and School Board meetings, regularly met with parents and students and has been
highly supportive of staff in all areas throughout this transition. We thank him for ensuring a smooth transition from
Mrs Hewson to our new Principal, Ms Willis.
Ms Eley has supported staff, assisted with the organisation of Eagles Cup and the Cross Country events, organised
swimming timetables, liaised with staff on curriculum including NAPLAN administration, introduced PATS testing and
trained staff. On top of all these responsibilities Ms Eley worked with her Room 23 students to present a fantastic
assembly last week.
Thank you Mr Smith and Ms Eley.
Regards, Mrs Deidre Jones, Deputy
Rottnest Camp The fees for the Rottnest Camp are due by the last day of this term, Friday 27 September. Parent helpers are also requested to finalize their payment by that date. Thank you!

Lost Property Over the last school term, we have been inundated with lost items including clothing, towels, bathers, reading glasses, footwear and goggles! Please make an enquiry if your child has lost anything at school, or during Interm Swimming, because after Monday 12 August we will be sorting through the items and making a generous donation to a local Op Shop.
Garden Restoration It may be Winter in Albany; however, it is Spring in the garden bed outside the Administration Building! The space has been transformed with mulch and attractive plants, which lifts the area used predominantly by our Year 6 students. We owe enormous thanks to Sophie Welshman for her assistance in planting and resurrecting the garden.

Asbestos Awareness You may have noticed a yellow asbestos awareness
sticker near the front entrance to the office.
All Western Australian public schools are required to display this sticker at eye height near the front office or reception. This alerts contractors, tradespersons and any other people that may undertake work at the school that asbestos containing materials may exist at the school. They must check with the school’s Asbestos Containing Materials Register before commencing any work. This register is kept at the front desk and is always available to contractors and their workers. It is also available to school staff and parents as information
on managing asbestos containing materials in schools and work places. The Department considers the safety and welfare of students and staff to be the highest priority. Making all contractors aware of the presence of asbestos containing materials is a key part of the Department of Education’s asbestos management strategy. If you have any concerns regarding asbestos containing materials at the school, please do not hesitate to bring them to our attention.
Albany District Primary Schools’ Music Festival at AEC Albany Primary School is proud to have students representing us at the upcoming Music Festival at Albany Entertainment Centre on Thursday 5 September! In Week 2 our Music Specialist Judy Goodall sent a note home with all participants, which outlines important information about rehearsals, clothing requirements and ticket purchase. Good luck to all students involved, we can’t wait to hear your concert piece.
Chaplain’s Corner Welcome back to all our students for a busy Third Term of some exciting learning together, hardwork and loads of fun.
Albany Primary School provides wonderful opportunities for myself as the chaplain to be able to go into classes and
have conversations with our young children about the importance of how we show respect to others and ourselves,
and how we work together in teams. Life is all about team work. If we are good role models to our children, they will
develop into the caring, competent, citizens of the future. Topics of value are –
TEAM: we learn and work together – You look after each other!
RESPECT: we respect each other, person and property – Treat people how you want to be treated – our words
and actions all send a message!
INTEGRITY: we are to be truthful and honest. This develops trust essential for team work and is the foundation
for all good friendships .
AFFIRM: we are to encourage and empower each other (no verbal or physical abuse) (excerpt from M & M club)
Please be feel to contact the school if you feel I may be of service to you.

Plastic Free Week This week many of our classrooms have accepted the challenge of going Plastic Free. It is great to see so many families getting involved and trying
alternatives to single-use plastic in lunch boxes. Two students from Room 6 were proud to show off their lunch boxes, with not a piece of disposable plastic in sight! Well done Charlotte and Emily, and to all students participating.
