Newsletter Term 4 Week 1

Welcome to the newsletter for Term 4 Week 1! If you had a break during the school holidays we hope you had a nice timewith family. This term is going to be so much fun and jam packed with lots of activities. Our excursions to Woolworth are coming up quickly, please make sureyou have returned your permission form. We also have parent teacher conferences during week 4 and 5. At theseinterviews we will be discussing what school will look like and importantinformation we can pass on to your child's future teacher. We have some exciting news to share with you. Over the holidays two ofour teachers got engaged. We would like to congratulate Miss Gale andMiss Hodge on both their engagements. I am going to be away on my honeymoon from Term 3 Week 10 until Term4 Week 2 so if you have any issues in the mean time please contactRachael Chesson on 8283 0000 or [email protected]. OUR LEARNING
This week we will be learning aboutthe letter Kk. This is the final letterwe have to learn to complete the
alphabet. The name of the letter ispronounced ‘kay’, and the soundthat it makes is /k/. In Week 2, wewill begin revising various letters
throughout the week.
In our Pre-Lit program we will befocusing on blending words from print.That is the ability to sound out writtenwords to read them. For example, the
children look at the word ‘dog’, andthey will sound it out as ‘/d/-/o/-/g/,
dog!’
This term we will be focusing onnumber recognition and one-to-one
correspondence. One-to-onecorrespondence is the ability to
match an object to thecorresponding number (i.e. Countinga collection accurately by matching
each object to a number).
OUR LEARNING
This year we will be focusing on teaching the children independence.
This week we would like you to helpteach the children how to practicegetting into their Reception school
uniform.
Steps towards Independence
During our group times, we havebeen discussing what it means to begenerous. We have been discussingabout giving things away to others,
and why we need to give awaytoys/clothes that we don’t need
anymore.
As our children begin to get ready forReception next year, we will be
focusing on a theme of ‘Change’throughout this term. This includes
various life cycles, changes inseasons and how school may be
different to ELC.
Communication Pockets and Books: Each child has their own pocket in the foyer where you will findnotices and communication book. Please remember to checkthis each day your child is in ELC. We understand you mayneed to contact the ELC during other times which you are
welcome to do via email [email protected] or phone 8283 0000.
